How to Build a Bulk Website Screenshot Workflow with Make

A practical Make scenario for turning a list of URLs into screenshots: choose a capture module, map its output to storage, log failures, and check limits before scaling.

Build the workflow as a pipeline: a source supplies one URL per record, Make maps each URL into a screenshot action, and a later module saves or shares the resulting file. Start with a small sample, confirm the screenshot module’s actual response format, and only then scale the scenario. Make calls these workflows scenarios made from modules, with data mapped from one module into the next.

Choose the screenshot step before building the scenario

The right capture step depends on what the workflow must produce and how its Make module returns the result. Make lists two screenshot integrations: GetScreenshot, whose vendor Make identifies as Rasterwise, and HTML to Image API. Their documented capabilities differ, but the available information does not establish a price, speed, quota, image-quality ranking, or universally best choice. Check the provider’s current documentation and account limits before committing to a large run.

Option Capabilities listed in Make Useful when
ScreenshotNeo Website screenshots through its API; bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call; an MCP server for AI agents. You want clean captures, per-result billing status, or a direct API route. Its Make connection would use Make’s HTTP app rather than a native Make integration.
GetScreenshot / Rasterwise URL screenshots, element screenshots, API usage, and custom API calls. You want element capture or usage visibility in the listed integration. Verify current output mapping and limits with the provider.
HTML to Image API URL screenshots, HTML/CSS image generation, PDF generation, and custom API calls. You need PDF output or generated graphics as well as URL captures. Verify current output mapping and limits with the provider.
Make HTTP app plus a screenshot API HTTP requests and file downloads, with response parsing and pagination options. The screenshot provider lacks a native Make module, or you need to call its API directly. This requires configuring authentication and handling the API’s response shape.

For a bulk workflow, compare the capture mode you need, output format, module fields, account limits, price, and destination compatibility—not just whether a module is listed.

Plan the URL-to-file pipeline

Before adding modules, decide what each input record represents and what should happen when a URL is blank, duplicated, or malformed. The sources do not prescribe a universal validation recipe, so make those rules explicit for your own dataset.

#1 Best Overall
  1. URL source: Use the spreadsheet, database, webhook, or other system that already holds the URLs. Make’s reviewed sources establish the scenario and module model, but do not endorse a particular source app. Make the URL field easy to identify and map.
  2. Trigger: Choose an event from that source or schedule the scenario. Make’s GetScreenshot integration page describes recurring daily, weekly, or monthly capture workflows. The schedule controls when the scenario runs; it does not establish the screenshot provider’s throughput or quota.
  3. Per-URL capture: Map the current record’s URL into the screenshot action’s URL field. Make lists GetScreenshot actions named “Take Screenshot” and “Take Element Screenshot”; HTML to Image API lists “Capture Website Screenshot.” Use element capture only if a stable selector identifies the intended element.
  4. Response handling: Determine whether the selected action returns file data, a downloadable URL, or a task/result identifier. Map the actual response into the next step; do not assume all screenshot modules return the same shape.
  5. Destination: Save the file to cloud storage or send it to a team channel or another suitable destination. Make’s GetScreenshot page illustrates storage and sharing workflows, but does not guarantee the fields or limits of a particular destination module.
  6. Result log: Record the source URL with the capture result or error so you can identify and deliberately rerun failed items.

Build and test the Make scenario

1. Connect the URL source and inspect sample records

Create or open a scenario and add the module for your existing URL source. Choose an event trigger if new or changed records should launch captures, or schedule a run if you want recurring processing. Run the source module with a few representative records and inspect the output fields. Confirm that the URL is present, non-empty, and mapped consistently before adding capture.

2. Add the screenshot action

Add the screenshot provider’s Make module and select its URL-capture action. Map the URL from the current source record. If the intended output is one part of a page rather than the whole page, choose the element action only when a stable CSS selector is available. Confirm the returned fields by running a single test; note whether the result is file data, a link, or a task identifier.

3. Map the returned result into a destination

Add a storage or sharing module after the screenshot action. If the capture module provides a file directly, map that file to the destination’s file input. If it returns a downloadable URL, use a download step first if required. Make’s HTTP app supports file downloads and says a downloaded file can be used in later modules. If the result is a task or job identifier, follow the provider’s current documentation for retrieving the completed image before mapping it to storage.

4. Add a record of success or failure

Keep a result associated with the input URL. At minimum, record the URL and whether capture and delivery succeeded; include the provider’s returned error or status when available. This makes the run auditable and gives you a clear set of items to retry, rather than treating a scenario-level completion as proof that every URL produced a usable image.

5. Test edge cases and only then expand

  • Try a normal page, a URL with a redirect, and a page that may load slowly.
  • Decide whether blank values should be skipped, flagged, or routed to an error record.
  • Decide how duplicate URLs should be handled: capture every record, or deduplicate upstream according to your use case.
  • Check that filenames or destination keys remain distinguishable when multiple URLs are processed.
  • Verify what the provider reports for failed loads and how the scenario handles that response.
  • Start with a small sample and check the selected provider’s current account limits before processing the full list.

Use Make’s HTTP app when you need a direct API call

Make’s HTTP app can connect to services without a native integration. Its documentation describes HTTP Version 4 as adding secure keychain storage and native pagination. Supported request methods include GET, HEAD, POST, PUT, PATCH, DELETE, and OPTIONS. Make requires HTTPS endpoints and rejects unverified self-signed certificates.

Use the authentication method required by the screenshot provider’s API documentation. Make advises putting authentication in its dedicated Credentials field rather than in request headers or query parameters. For a provider that returns paginated URL records, the HTTP app’s response parsing and pagination options may help retrieve those inputs. The details of request parameters, response format, and subsequent file retrieval are provider-specific; verify them in that provider’s current API documentation.

Or skip the browser setup

Instead of configuring a browser or a capture module, Make can call ScreenshotNeo’s API. For one URL, use this HTTP request pattern and map the returned response into your chosen file-handling steps. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request and response details.

For a list, use a Make iterator or equivalent per-record flow with the single-URL request, or call ScreenshotNeo’s bulk capture capability for up to 100 URLs per call. In either case, design the following modules around the returned response and confirm its shape against the docs.

  • Cookie and consent banners are accepted like a visitor, and 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can be removed before the shot; each step can be turned off.
  • Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. The response includes X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers to show the result and billing status.
  • An MCP server provides the take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents, including Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
  • The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000; yearly billing gives two months free. Every feature is on every plan.

Manage volume, reliability, and cost

No universal safe batch size, capture speed, concurrency level, retry guarantee, or quota follows from a Make integration listing. Check the screenshot provider’s current plan and documentation, and increase workload gradually while monitoring actual results. A scheduled scenario is not itself a guarantee that the provider can process every item at the same rate.

GetScreenshot’s Make documentation lists a “Get API Usage” action that reports available requests and the reset date. The documentation says an active account and API key are required, and warns that its overview may be AI-generated; confirm exact field names and API behavior against the vendor’s own documentation. For other providers, check whether equivalent usage information is available.

For cost control, verify how the provider counts successful captures and failures, whether caching is available, and whether the plan covers the intended volume. Avoid assuming retries are free or automatic unless the provider’s current terms say so. Keep an error/result record and retry selected failures deliberately.

Troubleshoot common workflow failures

Symptom Likely cause What to check
The capture action receives an empty or wrong URL. The URL field was not mapped from the current source record, or the input is blank or malformed. Inspect the source module’s sample output and the capture module’s mapped URL. Add the validation or skip behavior that fits your data.
The destination receives no usable image. The screenshot action may return a URL or task identifier rather than file data, or the wrong output field was mapped. Run one capture and inspect its actual response. Add a download or result-retrieval step if the provider’s documented response requires one.
The HTTP request is rejected. The endpoint may not use HTTPS, the certificate may be an unverified self-signed certificate, or authentication may be configured incorrectly. Use an HTTPS endpoint with a verifiable certificate. Match the provider’s required auth method and place credentials in Make’s dedicated Credentials field.
Some records fail while the scenario continues. Individual URLs may be invalid, pages may fail to load, or a provider-side limit may be reached. Log the URL and returned status/error for each item. Check provider usage and limits, then retry only the records that need it.
URLs from an API source stop before the dataset is complete. The source endpoint may paginate results. Check the API’s pagination scheme and configure Make HTTP pagination and response parsing as appropriate.
A scheduled run does not match the expected workload. The schedule may be correct while provider limits, output handling, or per-item failures constrain completion. Test with a small run, inspect the per-URL log, and verify current provider limits and response behavior before increasing volume.

Frequently asked questions

Can one Make scenario process URLs from more than one source?

It can be designed to use different source modules or an API that aggregates inputs, but the exact setup depends on those apps and their data fields. Normalize the records so each item provides a URL in a consistent field before mapping into capture.

Should I use a full-page or element screenshot?

Use a full-page capture when the whole page is the intended artifact. Use element capture only when the specific element is the artifact and its selector is stable across the pages and sessions you process.

Can I assume a Make screenshot integration supports every destination?

No. A screenshot module and a destination module are separate steps. Confirm the capture result’s output type and the destination’s accepted file input in a test scenario.
