How to Broadcast a Centova Cast Station on YouTube Live

A practical guide to relaying Centova Cast station audio to YouTube Live, including connection details, encoder settings, RTMPS, scheduled streams, and troubleshooting.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To broadcast a Centova Cast radio station on YouTube Live, start the station, connect a compatible live-source application to Centova, and send that application’s output to YouTube using the stream URL and key. For a scheduled YouTube broadcast, start the encoder, wait for the preview in Live Control Room, then click Go live. Use the connection details supplied for your station; they vary by host and server setup.

What you need before you start

  • Access to the Centova Cast control panel and the station’s live-source connection details.
  • A live-source application that your Centova host confirms is compatible with your station’s source protocol and settings.
  • A YouTube channel enabled for live streaming, plus access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
  • A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the encoder settings you choose.

This setup relays station audio through a live-source application; Centova Cast does not itself provide a universal one-click connection to YouTube. Centova’s manual says to check with your hosting provider about compatible applications. See Centova Cast’s live-broadcast instructions.

How to send your Centova station to YouTube Live

  1. Start the Centova server. In Centova Cast, open Server and select Start. If your account includes AutoDJ, it can begin playing uploaded media. If it does not, starting the server alone will not supply audio; you need to connect a live source.
  2. Copy the Centova live-source connection details. In the control panel, open Quick Links and find Live Source Connections. Copy the values into the compatible live-source application. Use the source password, not the Centova administrator password. Ask your host which application and source protocol are supported for your specific station.
  3. Check AutoDJ and source conflicts. For SHOUTcast v1 with AutoDJ, stop AutoDJ before starting the live broadcast. Centova says this is not required for SHOUTcast v2 or IceCast. If another source already occupies a SHOUTcast connection, disconnect it before connecting the encoder.
  4. Create or schedule the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, choose Create → Go Live and use the Stream tab, or schedule a broadcast from Manage. YouTube’s steps are at Create a live stream with an encoder.
  5. Enter YouTube’s ingest details in the encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room into the encoder’s server and key fields. Keep the key private: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your stream. Do not put it in a public post, screenshot, or shared document.
  6. Choose RTMPS when your encoder supports it. RTMPS encrypts the connection between the encoder and YouTube. Get the RTMPS URL from Live Control Room and enter it exactly as provided; do not simply change an RTMP URL by hand. Google’s ingestion guidance specifies the rtmps protocol, port 443, and correct hostname handling for TLS SNI. See YouTube’s RTMPS overview and Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide.
  7. Start the source and encoder, then test the broadcast. Connect the live source to Centova and start the encoder’s YouTube output. Check the YouTube preview and stream health, and confirm that audio is present and representative video movement is visible. For a scheduled stream, click Go live in Live Control Room once the preview is ready.
  8. End the broadcast cleanly. Stop the encoder; for a scheduled stream, also select End Stream in Live Control Room. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. Longer streams are not covered by that automatic-archive statement, so do not rely on an archive being available.

Encoder settings: match YouTube guidance to your connection

YouTube’s encoder guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS; H.264, H.265 (HEVC), or AV1 video; up to 60 frames per second; AAC or MP3 audio; and constant bitrate (CBR). YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Its settings and bitrate guidance is available at YouTube’s encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions page.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose a bitrate for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you intend to use rather than applying one value to every station. YouTube’s published recommendation for 1080p at 30 fps is 14 Mbps with H.264 and 10 Mbps with AV1 or H.265. These are YouTube encoder targets, not proof that your internet connection or hosting arrangement can sustain them. YouTube recommends testing upload capacity before going live.

  • Use a resolution and frame rate your setup can continuously deliver; avoid choosing a higher target solely because the source audio is hosted on Centova.
  • Test audio routing as well as video. A radio station may send audio correctly while the video input or visual source is missing.
  • Confirm the encoder’s selected protocol and ingest URL match. If using RTMPS, the application must support it.

Choosing a live-source application

There is no single application guaranteed to work with every Centova Cast station. Compare potential applications against the details from your host rather than choosing by name alone.

  • Centova compatibility: Does it support the station’s specified source protocol, host, port, and password fields?
  • YouTube output: Can it send a live stream to YouTube with the required stream URL and key?
  • Secure ingest: Does it support RTMPS if you want to use YouTube’s encrypted ingest connection?
  • Audio routing and monitoring: Can it receive or route the station audio reliably, and can you check levels and connection status?
  • Operating system and cost: Is it available for your operating system, and does its licensing fit your use?

Ask your Centova provider to verify compatibility for your station before configuring the application. Centova’s connection values are specific to the service setup, so a generic tutorial may not match your host’s port or protocol.

Troubleshooting connection and stream problems

Symptom What to check Fix
The live-source application cannot connect to Centova. Host, port, source password, and source protocol. Re-copy the values from Quick Links → Live Source Connections. Use the source password rather than the administrator password, and confirm the protocol and port with your provider.
The application connects to the wrong address or refuses a local address. Whether the host field contains localhost or 127.0.0.1. Use the actual server address listed in Centova’s connection details, not a loopback address.
A SHOUTcast source is rejected because the connection is already in use. Whether AutoDJ or another source is occupying the connection. Disconnect the competing source. With SHOUTcast v1 and AutoDJ, stop AutoDJ before starting the live broadcast; this stop is not required by Centova for SHOUTcast v2 or IceCast.
The connection times out or is blocked. Firewall rules and access to the station’s stream port. Allow the required stream-port traffic in the relevant firewall and check with your provider if you cannot change the hosting firewall.
SHOUTcast v1 accepts the host but not the expected source port. The v1 source-port convention. Centova notes that the source port is the stream port plus one; its example is stream port 8000 and source port 8001. Use your station’s actual values rather than assuming those example ports.
YouTube reports an RTMPS SSL error or timeout. Protocol, port, encoder support, and hostname/SNI handling. Use the RTMPS URL supplied in Live Control Room, confirm the encoder supports RTMPS and is configured for port 443, and verify the hostname is preserved for TLS SNI.
YouTube receives the stream but the preview has no audio or the stream is unstable. Audio routing, stream health, chosen bitrate, and available upload capacity. Check the encoder’s audio input and levels, monitor Live Control Room’s stream health, and run an upload speed test. Reduce the target bitrate or resolution if the connection cannot sustain the selected settings.

Centova’s troubleshooting checklist is at Unable to connect with live source/live encoder. YouTube likewise recommends testing the stream before broadcasting and selecting quality based on the upload connection.

Copyright, audience expectations, and monetization

Streaming radio audio on YouTube does not remove the need to have permission for the music, recordings, and other material in the broadcast. Confirm that your rights cover a live YouTube broadcast in the territories where viewers may watch, and review YouTube’s current rules before scheduling. A stream being available on Centova or playable on your website is not, by itself, evidence that you have YouTube streaming rights.

  • FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Also distinguish a technically live relay from original programming. Repeated or minimally changed programming may not meet YouTube’s monetization requirements even if you control the stream. Review the current YouTube policies that apply to your channel before relying on ad revenue; eligibility and policy enforcement are separate from whether the encoder connects successfully.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep a YouTube channel live with uploaded video rather than relay the live audio output of a Centova station, StreamNeo is a different, cloud-based option. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It is for YouTube and uploaded video, not a camera feed or a connection to Centova’s live station audio.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Centova Cast itself send a stream directly to YouTube?

The workflow requires a compatible live-source application between the Centova station and YouTube’s ingest connection; Centova’s manual does not establish a universal direct integration.

YouTube’s stated automatic-archive condition covers streams shorter than 12 hours; do not assume a longer stream will be archived automatically.
