You can broadcast a 24/7 aarti playlist by running a software encoder on an always-on VPS and sending its audio-and-video output to YouTube Live over RTMPS. YouTube does not specify a minimum VPS size, so test your chosen media and encoding workflow before relying on it. Plan a local recording too: YouTube warns that a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as an archive.
What you need before starting
- A YouTube channel that is verified, eligible to livestream, and has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s current eligibility guidance also requires streamers to be at least 16 years old. Check your channel’s status in YouTube Studio before setup: YouTube’s live-streaming access requirements.
- An always-on VPS with enough outbound network capacity for your chosen stream. YouTube does not prescribe a minimum VPS CPU, memory, or provider plan for this workflow.
- A software encoder that can play or encode your media and send a live feed to YouTube. A hardware encoder is not required for a file-based playlist; YouTube describes professional hardware encoders as an option for higher-production events.
- A playlist of aarti recordings and a visual, such as a still image or looped devotional scene. The visual approach is your production choice, not a YouTube requirement.
- Permission to livestream every recording and its underlying composition, including any replay or archival use you intend to allow.
Set up the YouTube livestream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live. If livestreaming is not enabled, follow the verification and activation prompts and allow time for access to become available.
- In Live Control Room, create or schedule an encoder stream. Use its stream URL and stream key in your encoder. YouTube describes the key as the credential that routes the encoder’s feed to the correct stream: Set up your encoder for live streaming.
- Keep the stream key private. Treat it like a password: do not include it in a public script, screenshot, stream description, or shared configuration. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Choose RTMPS when your encoder and the current ingest details support it. YouTube recommends RTMPS for ordinary streaming; it encrypts the connection from the encoder to YouTube. Check the current protocol and ingest details in YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
Prepare the playlist and encoding workflow
Check the media before configuring the VPS
Use recordings you own or are licensed to transmit. Confirm that the chosen encoder can read the files and that playlist transitions do not introduce unintended silence, abrupt volume changes, or gaps. A still image or a looped visual can accompany the audio, but test the complete cycle rather than only the first track.

Your server requirements depend on how the encoder handles the files. If it can pass compatible encoded media through without re-encoding, its workload differs from a workflow that transcodes audio or video. No universal CPU or memory figure is established for this setup; test the actual playlist and settings on the VPS you plan to use.
Use YouTube’s current encoder guidance
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS ingest, H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and frame rates up to 60 fps. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Use the bitrate range YouTube publishes for your selected resolution rather than choosing an unsupported value: YouTube recommended encoder settings.

For a mostly static devotional visual, a modest supported resolution may be sufficient; higher resolution does not automatically improve a still image or the listening experience. Select a resolution and bitrate that your encoder, VPS, and network can sustain, then confirm the result in Live Control Room.
Run and verify the stream on the VPS
- Install and configure your chosen software encoder on the VPS. Configure it to play the aarti playlist, provide the selected visual, and send the output to the YouTube ingest URL with the stream key.
- Start with a private or unlisted test stream if that fits your channel workflow. Preview the feed in Live Control Room and check that the image appears, the audio is audible and consistent, and the stream-health panel shows no unresolved problems.
- Check your VPS’s outbound capacity against the total stream bitrate. YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom beyond the bitrate; if you use primary and backup streams, account for both. Its network guidance explains the capacity and stability considerations: YouTube streaming network tips.
- Monitor the feed during a test long enough to cover playlist transitions and any looping behavior. YouTube recommends testing backup-encoder failover where used. Confirm that any local recording or archive file is actually growing rather than assuming it has started.
- When the test is sound, schedule or start the intended public stream from Live Control Room and keep a way to check stream health and the VPS process.
Plan for archives and recovery
A continuous broadcast and a complete recording are separate goals. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, recommends making a local archive backup, and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all: YouTube live-stream archives. Do not rely on one uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast as the only copy of the playlist or as a guaranteed complete archive.

If a complete archive matters, maintain and verify a separate local recording or other recording workflow. YouTube’s guidance does not establish a guaranteed automatic process for rotating a continuous broadcast into complete archives. Validate the current Studio controls and test your recording and restart procedures before production. Shorter broadcasts may help with archive management, but they introduce interruptions and need their own restart and continuity plan.
Clear the music rights before going live
You are responsible for having the necessary rights for the live content. YouTube’s livestream terms say content providers must have the rights needed for worldwide exploitation on Google services, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants: YouTube livestream terms and conditions.

Keep permission records for both the sound recording and the composition, and confirm that the licence covers live transmission, relevant territories, and any replay or archive use. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. Even a licensed track may be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID; contact the rights owner about allowlisting before relying on that material for a continuous stream. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | Incorrect ingest URL or stream key, unsupported protocol, or encoder not sending output | Compare the encoder destination and key with the current Live Control Room details. Confirm the selected RTMP/RTMPS protocol is supported and that the encoder is running. |
| Stream health reports network trouble or the feed drops | Insufficient outbound bandwidth or an unstable connection | Check actual outbound use and leave YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom beyond the stream bitrate. Check the VPS network and test backup-encoder failover if you use it. |
| Audio or video is missing, choppy, or out of sync | Media compatibility, encoder configuration, overloaded VPS, or inconsistent source files | Test the exact playlist and visual. Verify supported codecs, CBR, bitrate for the selected resolution, and a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). Determine whether transcoding is overloading the VPS. |
| The playlist stops or has a gap at a track transition | Playlist behavior or media files are not being handled as expected | Test a full playlist cycle on the VPS and inspect transitions, loop behavior, and audio levels before going public. |
| A licensed track triggers a live interruption | A Content ID match or the channel is not allowlisted by the rights owner | Confirm the licence covers the use and ask the rights owner to allowlist the channel. Resolve rights claims rather than assuming a licence prevents automated interruption. |
| The broadcast exists but the YouTube archive is incomplete or absent | The stream exceeded 12 hours or platform archiving did not capture it | Keep a separate local recording if a complete copy matters. Test it, and verify archive availability in YouTube Studio after shorter test sessions. |
