Use Starknet’s official Bridges & On-Ramps directory to open StarkGate, which the directory identifies as the official bridge between Ethereum and Starknet. Before connecting a wallet, verify the destination domain, select Ethereum as the source, Starknet as the destination, choose ETH, and read the live transaction summary. Ethereum gas is paid separately in ETH; there is no reliable fixed fee or arrival time that applies to every transfer.
The safe route in one sentence
Start with Starknet’s own Bridges & On-Ramps directory, follow its StarkGate listing, and treat every value shown by the live bridge and your wallet as authoritative for that transaction. The directory also lists other services, but a listing alone does not establish that those services use the same mechanism, charge the same amount, or provide the same protections.

StarkGate’s documented purpose is to move ETH and ERC-20 tokens between Ethereum and Starknet. For an ETH deposit, your transaction begins on Ethereum and your destination must be Starknet. A mistake in either network selection can send you into an unintended route, so network and asset checks come before any signature.

A wallet that can use both networks
You need a wallet that can connect to the Ethereum side of the bridge and then display or connect to Starknet. Keep control of the wallet’s recovery method yourself. A bridge website, support account, or person should never ask for your recovery phrase or private key. If a page asks for either, close it immediately.

ETH for the transfer and the Ethereum transaction fee
Leave enough ETH in the Ethereum account to pay the origin-chain gas charge in addition to the amount you intend to bridge. StarkGate explains that transfers to Starknet use the native fee token of the origin chain—for Ethereum, that token is ETH—and that the gas charge is separate from the amount entered in the bridge form. Do not assume the interface will subtract gas from your requested transfer amount; read the final summary to see how the wallet will charge you.
A verified starting point
Use the current Starknet directory rather than a search advertisement, an old bookmark, a social-media post, or a support message. The directory is the cited source that identifies StarkGate as the official Ethereum–Starknet bridge. After following the listing, inspect the address bar yourself before connecting the wallet. A familiar-looking page is not proof that it is genuine.
Step-by-step: bridge ETH from Ethereum to Starknet
1. Open Starknet’s Bridges & On-Ramps directory
Navigate to Starknet’s official directory through a trusted bookmark or by entering the known Starknet website yourself. Locate the StarkGate entry and open the link presented there. Do not rely on a link copied from an unsolicited message. The directory contains multiple services, so make sure the link you choose is the StarkGate listing, not an unrelated entry.

Check the complete domain in the browser’s address bar. Look for misspellings, extra words, unexpected subdomains, or a different top-level domain. Confirm that the page is using a secure connection and that the wallet prompt names the same site you intended to visit. If anything differs, disconnect and return to the official directory instead of trying to “fix” the page through a support chat.
3. Connect the wallet only after the domain check
Use the bridge’s connect control and choose your wallet. Read the connection request, including the site name and requested accounts, before accepting. A connection request is not the same as a transfer approval; you still need to review the transaction that follows. If the wallet displays a site you do not recognize, reject the request and start again from the directory.
4. Set Ethereum as the source and Starknet as the destination
In the route selector, explicitly choose Ethereum for the origin and Starknet for the destination. Do not infer the direction from a preselected value. Some interfaces retain your previous network choice, and a route that looks similar can still be the opposite direction. Stop if the destination field does not clearly identify Starknet.

5. Select ETH and verify the displayed asset
Choose ETH, not a similarly named token or an ERC-20 representation. Check the symbol, network, and destination asset shown by the current interface. Official documentation notes that the supported-asset list can change, so a token list saved in a wallet or copied from an old guide is not a substitute for the live bridge screen. If ETH is not available in the route you selected, do not improvise with another asset; recheck the network settings and the current StarkGate interface.
6. Enter an amount that leaves room for gas
Type the amount of ETH you want to deposit, then check the balance that will remain on Ethereum. StarkGate’s help information says the origin-chain gas charge is separate from the amount entered. The final wallet request may therefore show the transfer value plus a network fee. If the wallet cannot cover both, the transaction will fail or be rejected; reduce the transfer amount or add ETH before trying again.
7. Read the live quote and transaction summary
Review every value the bridge provides: the amount leaving Ethereum, any bridge charge shown by the interface, the amount expected on Starknet, the estimated completion information, and the wallet’s network fee. The available official material does not establish a universal fee or guaranteed arrival time. Network conditions and the specific transaction determine those figures, so use the estimate displayed for your transfer rather than an old number from a guide.
8. Inspect the wallet request before signing
Your wallet should show the chain, recipient or contract details, amount, and fee. Compare those details with the bridge screen. Reject a request that switches networks, changes the amount, points to an unexpected destination, or asks for permissions unrelated to the transfer. Never approve a transaction simply because the page says it is urgent or because a countdown is running.
9. Sign once and keep the transaction reference
Approve only after the checks above agree. Save the transaction hash or other reference displayed by the wallet. Do not submit the same transfer repeatedly while waiting; duplicate attempts create additional fees and may make it harder to determine which transaction you are monitoring.
10. Wait for the current status and verify Starknet
Use the bridge’s status view and the transaction reference to follow progress. A displayed estimate is not a promise, particularly when Ethereum is congested. When the transfer is marked complete, switch the wallet to Starknet and check the destination balance or activity there. If the bridge reports completion but the wallet view is stale, refresh the account or reconnect it through the wallet’s normal network controls rather than signing another transaction.

How fees and arrival estimates should be read
Bridge screens often show several numbers at once. Treat them as different categories, not as one fee taken from your entered amount.

If the bridge and wallet show conflicting numbers, pause. Do not calculate a “correction” by guessing which screen is wrong. Cancel or reject the request, reconnect through the official directory, and review the route again.
Security checks that matter most
Verify the route, not just the logo
Phishing pages can copy branding and wording. The reliable check is the route you used to arrive there and the exact domain in the address bar. A logo, padlock, or familiar color scheme cannot prove that a page is the genuine bridge.

Keep recovery information offline
No legitimate bridge transaction requires your seed phrase or private key. Wallet software should request a signature through its normal approval window. If a page asks you to type recovery words into a form, treat it as a theft attempt and stop.
Read destination and amount in the wallet
The bridge interface is not the final authority over what your wallet signs. Check the wallet’s chain, value, recipient details, and fee. Reject anything that does not match the route you selected. If you cannot interpret a field, do not sign until you can verify it from the wallet or official documentation.
Separate connection from approval
Connecting a wallet lets a site read a public address and request actions; it does not make every later transaction safe. Review each signature independently. Disconnect the site after finishing if you do not plan to use it again, using the wallet’s built-in connected-sites controls.

Consider a small initial transfer
For a first-time route, a small test deposit can limit the amount exposed to an operational mistake. It does incur its own Ethereum gas and is not a guarantee against bridge or wallet risk. Use it only when the extra transaction cost is acceptable and you have confirmed that the destination account is the one you control.
What StarkGate’s “official” designation does—and does not—mean
Starknet’s directory calls StarkGate the official bridge between Ethereum and Starknet. Starknet documentation also describes a multi-bridge architecture that includes legacy token bridges. Those statements identify the service and provide context; they do not establish that every transaction is risk-free, that the software is immune to phishing, or that a current audit or insurance guarantee applies.
Use “official” as a reason to begin at the Starknet directory, not as permission to skip wallet checks. Smart-contract, browser, wallet, and operational risks still require your own verification. The cited material does not support claims that StarkGate is the safest possible bridge, guarantees funds, or always completes within a particular time.

The bridge shows the wrong network
Do not approve the transaction. Disconnect, close the tab, and reopen StarkGate from Starknet’s official directory. Then set Ethereum as the source and Starknet as the destination manually. A wallet may remember a previous network, so check the selector again before entering an amount.
ETH is missing from the asset list
Confirm that you selected the intended direction and that the wallet is connected to the account holding ETH. Supported assets can change, so rely on the current bridge list. Do not paste a token contract from an unofficial page or substitute a similarly named asset.
The wallet rejects the transaction for insufficient funds
Check the wallet’s ETH balance against both the transfer amount and the separate Ethereum gas charge. Lower the transfer amount or fund the account, then create a new quote. Never repeatedly sign a failing request without reading the updated fee.
The transaction is pending longer than the estimate
Keep the transaction hash and monitor the bridge’s current status. Estimates are conditional, not guarantees. Avoid submitting a duplicate transfer while the original remains pending. If the bridge provides a documented recovery or support path, reach it from the official site—not from a message that contacts you unexpectedly.

Confirm that the wallet is viewing Starknet and the same destination address used in the transaction. Refresh the wallet’s activity and check the bridge status with the saved transaction reference. If the status and destination still disagree, stop before sending another transaction and use support links reached through the official directory.
A page asks for a recovery phrase or unusual approval
Reject the request, close the page, and disconnect the site. Do not provide recovery words, private keys, or screenshots containing them. If you already exposed recovery information, treat the wallet as compromised and move remaining assets to a newly generated wallet using a clean device; the bridge itself cannot restore stolen credentials.
A pre-sign checklist
- I opened StarkGate from Starknet’s official Bridges & On-Ramps directory.
- The address bar shows the expected domain, with no spelling or domain-ending anomaly.
- The source network is Ethereum and the destination network is Starknet.
- The selected asset is ETH, and the live asset list confirms that route.
- The amount leaves enough ETH to pay Ethereum gas.
- The bridge quote, destination amount, and estimate are current and understood.
- The wallet request shows the expected chain, amount, recipient details, and fee.
- No page or person has requested my recovery phrase or private key.
After the transfer
- Keep the transaction hash and the bridge status for your records.
- Wait for the status to indicate completion instead of relying only on a wallet notification.
- Switch the wallet to Starknet and verify the destination balance or activity.
- Disconnect the bridge site if you do not need the connection anymore.
- For a future transfer, repeat the directory and domain checks; do not assume a saved tab or bookmark is still the correct entry point.
What you can conclude before signing
The defensible safety decision is procedural: use the official Starknet entry point, verify the exact route and ETH asset, understand that Ethereum gas is paid separately, and sign only when the bridge screen and wallet request agree. Fixed fees, guaranteed completion times, and claims of risk-free bridging are not established; the live transaction is the source for those variable details.
