To hide Google’s AI answers in a consumer browser, install a browser extension such as Bye Bye, Google AI or Hide Google AI Overviews. For a classic-results view, Quell offers a Clean Web mode that redirects searches to Google’s web results. These tools change what you see in your browser; they do not turn off Google’s AI systems or remove data from Google’s servers.
Which extension should you use?
Choose based on whether you want to remove just AI features or reshape the whole results page. The extensions differ in what they hide and how they handle Google’s changing page layout.

- Open the official Chrome Web Store listing for the extension you chose. For Quell, use its project page and follow its current installation instructions for Chrome or Edge.
- Review the permissions, privacy disclosure, version, and update date before adding it to your browser.
- Install the extension. In Chrome, you can pin it from the Extensions menu if you want quick access to its controls.
- Run a Google search and check whether the AI Overview or other selected panels are gone. With Bye Bye, Google AI, configure the additional page elements you want hidden.
- In Quell, select Hide for selective suppression or Clean Web for a classic-results redirect.
What these extensions can—and cannot—block
Browser extensions act on the page shown on your device. Bye Bye, Google AI says it hides page areas using CSS, including by setting them to display="none". Quell describes its controls as browser-only: it “does not delete your data from AI servers” and “does not stop AI globally — only in your browser, on your device.” They change the display or destination of your search, not Google’s underlying services or stored data.
#1 Best Overall
Coverage also varies. Bye Bye, Google AI offers controls for several non-AI result sections as well as AI Overviews. Hide Google AI Overviews focuses on the overview feature. Quell says it supports Google AI Overviews and AI Mode across all 190 Google country domains, but that is the project’s stated coverage, not a guarantee that every interface or future page variation will be caught.
Why a blocker may stop working
Google changes its search pages over time. A CSS-based extension depends on selectors that match the page’s current markup; Bye Bye, Google AI warns that if Google changes its CSS, the extension may need an update. If an AI panel returns, check whether the extension has an update and whether its relevant control remains enabled.
Rank #2
Quell’s Clean Web mode takes a different approach: it redirects searches to Google’s classic web results using udm=14, rather than relying only on hiding selected page elements. Its documentation presents that as a way to avoid dependence on page selectors. Hide mode, by contrast, keeps the regular results page and suppresses AI blocks.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Google documents a separate administrator policy for blocking a Chrome generative-AI feature through centralized management in the Admin console. This is an organization-level control for managed Chrome, not a consumer setting that switches off AI Overviews in Google Search. Administrators should consult Google’s Chrome Enterprise guide for the applicable policy and management details.
