To become an administrator, first run a Palworld dedicated server and set an AdminPassword in its server configuration. Save the setting and restart the server. After joining that server, press Enter to open chat and type /AdminPassword <your-password>. Once the password is accepted, you can use Palworld’s slash commands for player moderation, teleportation, announcements, saving and shutdowns.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Palworld servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
What you need before using /AdminPassword
Palworld’s documented administration method is password-based. It does not begin with a separate in-game administrator menu or a button in the pause screen. The server owner configures a password outside the game, then an authorized player authenticates through the in-game chat command.

- A connection to the correct server: The command only helps on the server whose configuration contains that password.
If you are playing a normal local or peer-hosted session rather than operating a dedicated server, this documented workflow does not apply. The procedure below is for a Palworld dedicated server, whether you run it yourself or rent managed hosting.

The authentication command is the same in both arrangements. The difference is where you edit the setting and who controls the restart.

| Area | Self-hosted dedicated server | Managed dedicated server |
|---|---|---|
| Installation | Install the Dedicated Server with Steam or SteamCMD, then launch PalServer.exe on Windows or PalServer.sh on Linux. |
The provider supplies a server instance and a control panel. |
| Configuration access | Edit the server’s configuration directly on the machine. | Enter the password in the panel’s server settings; the current workflow places it in a Startup tab. |
| Applying changes | Save the configuration and restart the server using your normal service or process controls. | Save the panel value and restart from the panel before reconnecting. |
| Operational responsibility | You handle installation, updates, process monitoring, backups and restarts. | The provider supplies the control panel and may provide support for the underlying service. |
Self-hosting is appropriate when you want direct access to files and owner-controlled restarts. Managed hosting is more convenient when you prefer a web interface for the password and server lifecycle. Neither option bypasses the prerequisite: AdminPassword must exist in the server configuration before the command can execute.
Set up a dedicated server
Self-hosted deployment
Pocketpair’s dedicated-server deployment guidance covers installation through Steam and SteamCMD. On Windows, the server process is started with PalServer.exe. On Linux, the corresponding launch script is PalServer.sh. Complete the installation and confirm that the server starts normally before troubleshooting administrator access.
The important distinction is that the dedicated server process owns the configuration used by connected players. Changing an unrelated local game setting, or editing a file for a different server instance, will not create administrator access on the server you joined.
Managed deployment
With managed hosting, create or open the Palworld server in the provider’s control panel. Locate the server startup or startup-configuration area. The current panel workflow places the administrative password field on a Startup tab. Enter a strong value, save it, and restart the server from the panel.

Do not reconnect immediately after clicking save if the panel has not completed the restart. Wait until the panel reports that the server is running again, then join that server. A panel value that has not been saved or loaded by a restart is not yet available to the game server.
Configure the Palworld admin password
Self-hosted steps
- Stop or otherwise safely pause the server process before changing its configuration, using the method you normally use to operate the server.
- Open the Palworld server configuration used by that dedicated-server instance.
- Set
AdminPasswordto the password you intend to use. The setting must be present in the configuration before authentication. - Save the file. Confirm that the edited file belongs to the server instance you will join, rather than a backup, test installation or another machine.
- Start the server again with
PalServer.exeon Windows orPalServer.shon Linux, according to your installation. - Wait for the server to finish starting, then connect from the Palworld client.
The critical order is configuration first, restart second, authentication third. Pocketpair states that “The AdminPassword must be set in the configuration file beforehand in order to execute the command.” If the value was absent when the server started, typing the command in chat cannot create the password retroactively.

- Open the server in your hosting control panel.
- Go to the Startup tab or the panel section that exposes startup variables.
- Enter the desired value in the Admin Password field.
- Save the change and verify that the panel confirms it.
- Restart the Palworld server from the panel.
- Reconnect only after the restart has completed.
Panel labels can vary between providers, but the required sequence does not: enter the password, save it, restart the server, then authenticate in-game. If the panel masks the value, record it securely before leaving the page; you will need the exact same value in chat.
Authenticate in the game
- Join the dedicated Palworld server after its restart.
- Press Enter to open the in-game chat.
- Type the command in this form:
/AdminPassword <your-password>. - Replace
<your-password>with the configured value, including its capitalization and punctuation. - Submit the message and continue using the server as an administrator.
Include the leading slash. Enter the command in the game chat on the server you intend to administer, not in a hosting-panel console, operating-system terminal or a chat window for another Palworld server. The password is the credential; do not paste it into a public channel where other players can copy it.

Palworld administrator commands
After authentication, enter administrative commands in chat with a leading slash. Commands that target a player require that player’s identifier, such as a SteamID. Use /ShowPlayers to view connected-player information before attempting a kick, ban or teleport.
| Command | Purpose | Important input or behavior |
|---|---|---|
/ShowPlayers |
Displays information about players currently connected. | Use it to identify the SteamID associated with a player you need to manage. |
/Broadcast |
Sends an announcement to players on the server. | Use it for maintenance notices, rules or an impending restart. |
/KickPlayer <SteamID> |
Removes a player from the server. | Supply the target player’s SteamID. |
/BanPlayer <SteamID> |
Bans a player. | Supply the target player’s SteamID and verify the identity first. |
/UnBanPlayer |
Removes a ban. | The official command list names the command; use the server’s accepted player identifier when prompted by the game’s command handling. |
/TeleportToPlayer <SteamID> |
Teleports the administrator to a player. | Supply the destination player’s SteamID. |
/TeleportToMe <SteamID> |
Teleports a player to the administrator. | Supply the player’s SteamID and make sure the move is intended. |
/Save |
Saves the current world state. | Run it before planned maintenance or a shutdown. |
/Shutdown [Seconds] [MessageText] |
Schedules a shutdown with an optional countdown and message. | Use the seconds value and announcement text to give players warning. |
/DoExit |
Stops the server immediately. | This is the force-stop command; use it only when an immediate stop is necessary. |
/Info |
Displays server information. | Use it when you need the server’s available information from within the game. |
/ToggleSpectate |
Toggles spectate mode. | Run it after authentication when you need to switch the mode. |
Because moderation commands act on real players, check the output of /ShowPlayers carefully before using a SteamID. A mistaken identifier can affect the wrong person. For routine maintenance, prefer the announced shutdown command over an immediate process stop.

A safe moderation and maintenance workflow
Identify a player before taking action
- Run
/ShowPlayers. - Match the displayed player information to the person you intend to manage.
- Copy or carefully transcribe the corresponding SteamID.
- Use
/KickPlayer <SteamID>or/BanPlayer <SteamID>, depending on the action required.
Do not guess a SteamID from a display name. Display names can be similar or change, while the moderation command requires an identifier.
Announce and save before planned downtime
- Use
/Broadcastto tell connected players what is happening. - Run
/Saveto save the current world state. - Run
/Shutdown [Seconds] [MessageText]with a countdown and message that give players time to leave safely. - Wait for the shutdown to complete before applying server maintenance.
/DoExit is listed separately as a force-stop command. Reserve it for situations where a timed shutdown is not practical, because it does not provide the same planned warning sequence.

Why /AdminPassword does not work
Most failures come from the setup sequence rather than from the command’s spelling. Check each condition in order.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe password was never configured
The command cannot execute when AdminPassword is missing from the server configuration. Add the value to the configuration, save it, restart the server and try again. Typing a new value after the command does not configure the server.
The latest value was not saved
In a hosting panel, confirm that the password field accepted the change and that you clicked the panel’s save control. In a self-hosted installation, confirm that the edited configuration file was saved successfully and that no editor left a temporary or duplicate file.
The server was not restarted
A running process may still be using the previous configuration. Restart after changing the value. With managed hosting, wait for the panel to report a completed restart before joining. With self-hosting, stop and start the same dedicated-server instance whose configuration you edited.

You joined the wrong server
Check the server name, address and connection details. A password configured on one dedicated server will not authenticate you on another. This is especially easy to do when a test server and a public server have similar names.

Press Enter after joining to open the in-game chat and enter /AdminPassword <your-password> there. A terminal, provider console or unrelated chat window is not the documented authentication path.
The command was typed incorrectly
Check the leading slash, the command spelling and the password’s capitalization and punctuation. Replace the angle-bracket placeholder with the real password; do not type the brackets themselves. Avoid adding explanatory text before or after the command.
A player command has no effect
First authenticate again if the server has restarted, then run /ShowPlayers and obtain the current SteamID. Use the identifier exactly as displayed. Commands such as /KickPlayer, /BanPlayer, /TeleportToPlayer and /TeleportToMe need a target identifier.
Password and server-security practices
- Use a password that is not shared with ordinary players and is not reused for another service.
- Give the password only to people who genuinely need administrative access.
- Keep the value out of public chat, screenshots and shared issue reports.
- Change the configured value and restart the server if the password is exposed.
- Before banning or teleporting, verify the SteamID with
/ShowPlayers. - Use
/Savebefore planned maintenance so the latest world state is written before shutdown. - Prefer
/Shutdown [Seconds] [MessageText]for scheduled downtime and reserve/DoExitfor urgent stops.
Administrative access is powerful because it affects every connected player and the shared world. Treat the password like a server credential rather than a convenience command.
Quick administrator checklist
- Confirm that you are operating a Palworld dedicated server.
- Install it through Steam or SteamCMD if you are self-hosting.
- Start the server with
PalServer.exeon Windows orPalServer.shon Linux. - Set
AdminPasswordin the server configuration, or enter it in the managed host’s Startup tab. - Save the setting.
- Restart the server.
- Join that same server.
- Press Enter and submit
/AdminPassword <your-password>. - Run
/ShowPlayerswhen you need a SteamID. - Use moderation and maintenance commands deliberately, saving before planned shutdowns.
Bottom line
Palworld admin access is enabled before you enter the game: configure AdminPassword, save it, restart the dedicated server, then authenticate through in-game chat with /AdminPassword <your-password>. If it fails, verify the saved configuration, completed restart, correct server and chat location before investigating anything else.
