Choose the method that matches your server
Conan Exiles server administration is not consistent across every game build, host panel or platform configuration. The safest approach is to try the documented RCON workflow first, then use the ban-file method only when the command is unavailable or fails.

Do not assume that a command copied from another host applies to your installation. Run help in RCON before using any ban-related syntax.
Before changing a ban
Confirm that you have the right access
You need administrator access to the server console, RCON or the host’s file manager. A normal player account cannot remove a server-wide ban. If you use an external RCON client, make sure it is connected to the correct server and port; if you use a host panel, open its Console tab rather than the game’s chat window.

Back up the ban list
Before editing a file, make a copy of blacklist.txt with the server stopped. Give the copy a date and keep it outside the live save directory. A backup lets you restore an accidentally deleted entry or undo a change that produces an unexpected result.
Identify the player precisely
Use the identifier displayed by listbans whenever possible. Conan Exiles ban-file formats are not described consistently: one set of instructions refers to an account ID and account name, while another refers to a Steam64 ID. Because those formats are unresolved, do not guess an ID from a display name or remove every line containing a similar name.

1. Open the RCON console
- Open your server-management dashboard and select the server you administer.
- Open the panel’s Console tab, or connect with your external RCON client.
- Check that the console is connected and that commands return a response. Some hosting panels enable RCON by default, but your panel can still expose or restrict it differently.
2. Check the command set
Enter:
help
Look for listbans and unbanplayer. This check matters because published command lists disagree about ban and unban syntax, and some servers report no kick or ban console commands at all.
3. Display current bans
Run:
listbans
Record the exact userid or platformid associated with the player. Use the identifier shown by the server rather than the player’s character name. If several entries appear, compare the account or platform identifier carefully before proceeding.
4. Remove the ban
Run the command with the identifier returned by listbans:

unbanplayer <userid|platformid>
Replace the angle-bracketed value with the actual ID. Do not type the brackets, and do not add a display name unless the console specifically identifies that value as a supported identifier.

5. Verify the result
Run listbans again. The player’s identifier should no longer appear. Ask the player to connect only after this check; a disconnected player may still have an old session, so verification in the ban list is the useful test of the server-side change.

The syntax of a ban command is not established consistently. Instructions found for Conan Exiles variously show /ban <PlayerID>, AdminBan or unban <playername>, while another guide says the game has no kick or ban console command. Treat those forms as unverified on your server. The output of help, your panel’s documented controls and a controlled test are more reliable than copying a command from a different build.
Unban by editing blacklist.txt
Use this procedure if help does not show unbanplayer, RCON is unavailable, or the command returns an unknown-command error.
1. Stop the server completely
- Use the server dashboard’s Stop control.
- Wait until the panel reports that the process has stopped. Do not edit the file while the game process is still writing its save data.
2. Locate the ban file
Open the server’s file manager or connect through the file-transfer method supplied by your host. The documented location is:

/ConanSandbox/Saved/blacklist.txt
Directory layouts can differ between installations, so search for blacklist.txt if that exact path is not visible. Make sure you are working in the live server’s save directory, not a backup or a different instance.
3. Create a backup
Download or copy the file before changing it. Preserve the original filename and keep a separate backup such as blacklist.txt.backup-2026-10-14. The date in that example is only a naming convention; use the date and time of your own change.
4. Remove only the intended entry
Open the file in a plain-text editor. Find the line belonging to the player. Match the account or platform identifier exactly; names can be duplicated, changed or formatted differently. Delete only that player’s line and leave every other entry untouched. Do not reformat the entire file, add quotation marks or convert line endings unless your editor does so automatically and your host specifically requires it.
5. Save and restart
- Save the edited file in plain text under the original name,
blacklist.txt. - Upload it back to the same directory if you edited a local copy.
- Start the server from the dashboard.
- Wait for the server to finish starting before testing the player’s connection.
If the player remains blocked, stop the server again and compare the live file with your backup. A wrong identifier, an edit to the wrong server instance or a host panel that restores an older copy can all leave the original entry in place.
Can you unban someone in the game?
Reports differ. Some server instructions say Conan Exiles has no in-game unban control and that administrators must use a panel or file transfer. Other reports describe an Unban option in a Banned Players list. The disagreement may reflect different game versions, server tools or dates.

Check your own administrative interface rather than relying on a screenshot or menu name from another installation. If a Banned Players list exists, confirm that removing the player there changes the server’s ban list; use RCON listbans or the file itself as the verification source. If the option is absent, use the RCON or file procedure above.
How to ban a player when the syntax is uncertain
The unban command is documented more consistently than the ban command. Because published syntax conflicts, do not assume that /ban, AdminBan or a name-based unban command will work on your server.
Use the server’s own command list
- Open RCON and run
help. - Read the exact spelling, required arguments and identifier type for any ban command displayed.
- Record the player’s ID before applying the ban so you can reverse it later.
- After banning, run
listbansand save the resulting entry with your administration notes.
Prefer a clearly labeled administrative control
If your host panel provides a Ban Player control with an identifier field, use that control only after confirming which server instance it targets. Keep a record of the ID it adds. A panel action that does not appear in listbans may be a temporary connection kick, a separate firewall rule or a control outside Conan Exiles’ own ban list.

“Unknown command” appears after unbanplayer
Run help and confirm the spelling supported by your build. If the command is absent, stop the server and use the blacklist.txt method. Do not cycle through unverified command variants on a live server, because some may perform a different administrative action.
The command succeeds, but the player is still listed
Run listbans again and check the identifier you supplied. A display name, character name or identifier from another platform may not match the entry. If the same ID remains, repeat the command only after confirming that you are connected to the correct server instance and have administrative privileges.
The player is removed from the list but cannot connect
First confirm with listbans that the ID is absent. Then have the player close and relaunch the game before testing again. If the ID returns after a restart, inspect blacklist.txt while the server is stopped and check whether your panel restored an earlier file. Also verify that you edited the instance the player is actually joining.
You cannot find blacklist.txt
Search the server’s files for the exact filename and check that the server is fully stopped. If multiple Conan Exiles instances or save directories exist, identify the active one from the dashboard before changing anything. Do not create a new empty file in an arbitrary directory; that will not remove a ban and can create confusion about which file is authoritative.
The file contents do not resemble the identifier you expected
Do not delete entries based on assumptions. Documentation differs on whether lines contain an account ID with an account name or a Steam64 ID. Preserve the backup, compare the line with the ID shown by listbans if available, and ask your host for the format used by that server build when the match is unclear.
The server will not start after editing
Stop further changes and restore the backup copy. Check that the filename, location and plain-text format are unchanged. Once the server starts with the backup, make a single, minimal edit and test again. Keeping one change per restart makes it possible to identify the problematic alteration.
Administration checklist
- Confirm the target server and your administrator permissions.
- Run
helpbefore relying on a command copied from elsewhere. - Use
listbansto obtain the exact userid or platformid. - Run
unbanplayer <userid|platformid>and verify withlistbans. - If RCON is unavailable, stop the server before touching
blacklist.txt. - Back up the file and remove only the matching line.
- Restart the server and test with the affected player.
- Keep a dated record of the identifier, method and result.
What is and is not established
unbanplayer followed by listbans is the most consistently documented command-line route. Removing the player’s line from /ConanSandbox/Saved/blacklist.txt with the server stopped is the documented fallback. The existence of an in-game unban menu, the exact identifier format in every ban file and the syntax of a ban command vary or conflict across available instructions. Treat those items as build-specific, verify them on your own server and keep a backup before making changes.
