What a Streamlabs backup covers
Streamlabs’ update guidance recommends exporting your overlays and scene collections before updating Streamlabs Desktop, and says regular exports are wise. It does not specify an export schedule or list every field included. The available instructions therefore do not establish that the export includes all Desktop preferences, account details, credentials, local media files, or other application data. Streamlabs’ update instructions describe the recommended backup items and export route.

Keep the scope precise: this procedure gives you a copy of the documented overlays and scene collections. It should not be treated as a guaranteed full restore of every part of your setup.

Export and upload a backup
- Open Streamlabs Desktop. Go to Settings > Scene Collections.
- Export your current overlays and scene collections. Streamlabs recommends doing this before an update. It also advises exporting regularly, but does not prescribe how often.
- Locate the exported file on your computer. The cited Streamlabs instructions support exporting; they do not describe an integrated cloud destination.
- Upload a copy manually. Sign in to the cloud-storage service you choose and upload the exported file. This is ordinary file storage, not a Streamlabs cloud-backup feature documented in the cited guidance.
- Check that the upload completed. Confirm the file is present in your cloud account. If you need another recovery option, keep a second copy in a separate location as well.
When choosing cloud storage, consider the available storage, whether you can access the account from another computer, how account recovery works, and whether the service keeps earlier file versions. The sources do not establish a preferred provider.

Restore an overlay file
Streamlabs documents importing an existing .overlay file using Settings > Scene Collections > Import Overlay File. If you are moving to a new computer or reinstalling, first download the backup file from your cloud account to that computer, then import it in Streamlabs Desktop. After import, check the scenes and assets in the app; the documented import procedure is for an overlay file and does not confirm a complete restoration of all Desktop settings. Features that are easy to confuse with backup
- Setup import: Streamlabs onboarding offers the option to import settings from another streaming program or start fresh. That is a setup or migration choice, not evidence of cloud backup for an existing Streamlabs Desktop configuration. Streamlabs’ getting-started guide describes that choice.
- Dashboard account import: Streamlabs documents an Import tab in Dashboard Account Settings for bringing account information from some other services. That is separate from exporting Desktop scene collections and overlays. Streamlabs’ account settings guide covers the Dashboard function.
The cited support material does not document automatic cloud synchronization and restoration of every Streamlabs Desktop setting. That qualification is limited to the instructions cited here; it is not a claim that no other Streamlabs feature or support article exists.
