How to Automatically Wipe Wild Dinos on an ARK: Survival Ascended Server

A practical ASA guide to recurring wild-dino wipes: configure UTC schedules with a mod, use a host panel when available, or test DestroyWildDinos manually.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The dependable ways to automate wild-dinosaur wipes on an ARK: Survival Ascended server are a scheduled server mod, a hosting-panel scheduler, or a restart-based host setting. For a self-hosted server, the clearest configuration is the Automated Dino Wipes mod: put one or more UTC times in WipeSchedule=, choose a nonzero WipeLengthSeconds value, and test the manual DestroyWildDinos command first. Managed hosts may expose a recurring wipe in their control panel, but the available controls differ and some only wipe during an automatic server restart.

A wipe removes wild creatures so the map can repopulate. It does not remove tamed creatures according to the command references reviewed here. Because command scope and host features vary, treat the first run as a controlled test rather than assuming every method clears every spawn on the entire map.

Choose the automation route that matches your server

Your first decision is who controls the server configuration. A self-hosted installation gives you access to mod files and, usually, the server console. A managed host may hide those files but offer a point-and-click scheduler. If you only need an occasional refresh, a console command is simpler than adding automation.

Route Recurring schedule Restart required Protection controls Best fit
Automated Dino Wipes mod Fixed UTC times in WipeSchedule= Follow the mod or host reload requirement after editing Blacklist, cave-dino, beehive and nest-egg options; warning broadcasts Self-hosted servers that need predictable times
Hyper’s Dynamic Dino Wipe and Population Control Interval in seconds Follow the mod or host reload requirement Separate switches for tamed, boss, large, aquatic and flying creatures Servers that prefer an interval and granular protection switches
Hosting-panel scheduler Depends on the panel Some implementations combine the wipe with scheduled restarts Depends on the host’s controls Managed hosting where a scheduler is already exposed
DestroyWildDinos None; one-off execution No automatic schedule Tamed creatures are not affected by the command references Testing, emergency population refreshes and occasional maintenance

No single control is guaranteed to appear on every ASA host. Confirm the current panel labels and mod version before building a production schedule around them.

Prepare the server before scheduling a wipe

  1. Record what must survive. List tamed creatures, breeding projects, boss-related animals, cave populations, beehives and nest eggs that should not be removed. The mod routes offer different exclusion controls, while the bare command offers fewer choices.
  2. Confirm administrator access. You need permission to edit the server configuration, install or update a mod, use the console, or change the host’s scheduled tasks. If you cannot access any of those areas, ask the host whether it supports an automatic wild-dino wipe.
  3. Use UTC for mod schedules. Automated Dino Wipes interprets WipeSchedule= as UTC in hh:mm format. Convert your local maintenance window before entering it, and account for daylight-saving changes yourself.
  4. Warn players. A wipe can temporarily reduce visible wildlife and may create a burst of respawns. Announce the time in your community’s local time as well as UTC, and avoid scheduling it during an event, boss run or breeding deadline.
  5. Test manually first. Run DestroyWildDinos during a quiet period, observe what disappears, and watch the map for several minutes as creatures respawn. The references disagree about whether the command reaches every map cell, so your own server test matters.
  6. Keep a recovery plan. A wipe is destructive to wild populations. Keep a recent server backup or know how your host restores one before enabling a recurring task.

Route 1: Schedule wipes with Automated Dino Wipes

Automated Dino Wipes is the most explicit schedule-based route in the available documentation. It has a configuration file with a start-up toggle, a UTC time list, a wipe duration, exclusions and warning broadcasts. The mod listing was about 506 days old on 14 October 2026, so verify the current release and option names in the live listing before applying these values.

Install and locate the configuration

  1. Use your server’s normal ASA mod-install workflow to add the current Automated Dino Wipes release. The exact install screen and load-order controls depend on whether you self-host or use a managed panel.
  2. Open the mod’s configuration file or configuration editor. Do not assume that a panel’s generic ARK settings page contains these keys; they belong to the mod.
  3. Save a copy of the original configuration before changing values. If the host provides separate live and saved configuration areas, edit the one the mod documentation identifies as active.
  4. Apply the host’s required reload or restart procedure, then perform a manual test before waiting for the first scheduled time.

Set the schedule and duration

Enter one or more comma-separated UTC times in hh:mm format. For example, WipeSchedule=03:00,15:00 represents two daily times in UTC; it is an example of the syntax, not a recommendation for every community. Use leading zeroes and remove spaces unless the current configuration guide explicitly permits them.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

WipeLengthSeconds=60 is the listing’s one-minute example. The same listing describes 0 as instant, 60 as one minute and 600 as ten minutes. Higher values spread the operation over a longer period and are described as producing less lag. A longer duration may be gentler on the server but extends the period in which players see changing wildlife. Start with a nonzero value, observe performance, and adjust only after a controlled test.

Understand every documented key

Key What it controls Practical use
WipeOnServerStart=False Whether a wipe runs whenever the server starts Leave it False when restarts should not also trigger a population reset. Set it intentionally if every startup is meant to include a wipe.
WipeSchedule= Comma-separated daily times, interpreted as UTC Populate it with the maintenance times you want, using hh:mm.
WipeLengthSeconds=60 How long the wipe takes Use a nonzero duration for a less abrupt operation; the listing describes 0, 60 and 600 seconds as instant, one minute and ten minutes.
Blacklist= Dino names that should be spared Enter names exactly as they appear in-game. Verify spelling and capitalization against the current mod instructions.
Other exclusion options Cave dinos, beehives and nest eggs Enable the relevant protections if those populations are part of your map’s progression or economy.
BroadcastWarnings=True Whether the mod sends in-game warnings before a scheduled wipe Keep warnings enabled unless you have another reliable announcement system.

Build a safe first schedule

  1. Set WipeOnServerStart=False unless a start-up wipe is explicitly required.
  2. Enter one test time a few minutes ahead in UTC, during a period when administrators can watch the server. Remove or change the test time after it fires.
  3. Keep WipeLengthSeconds above zero for the first run. A spread-out wipe gives you time to observe server performance and player impact.
  4. Turn on BroadcastWarnings=True and verify that players actually see the warning.
  5. Add blacklist entries and the cave, beehive or nest-egg protections before moving to a permanent schedule.
  6. After the test, check wild populations, protected creatures and server logs or console output. Only then add additional daily times.

The mod’s configuration names and behavior should be checked against its current release. A stale key can be ignored, renamed or behave differently after an update, and the listing’s age means you should not treat it as a guarantee of current compatibility.

Route 1b: Use Hyper’s Dynamic Dino Wipe and Population Control

Hyper’s Dynamic Dino Wipe and Population Control is an alternative mod with a different scheduling model. Instead of a list of clock times, it uses an interval measured in seconds through FloatWipeIntervalInSeconds. It also provides BoolWipeDinosOnServerStart for an optional start-up wipe.

The protection switches are useful when your policy is based on creature categories rather than species names. The documentation summary identifies separate toggles for tamed creatures, bosses, large creatures, aquatic creatures and flying creatures, including BoolNoWipeTamedDino for protecting tames. Review the current configuration names and defaults before changing them.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When an interval is preferable

  • Choose an interval when server uptime is irregular and you want the next wipe to be measured from operation rather than tied to a wall-clock time.
  • Choose the scheduled-time mod when players expect a public timetable, such as a daily wipe during a quiet UTC window.
  • Use the category protections when a broad rule, such as preserving all aquatic or boss creatures, is easier to maintain than a long species blacklist.

Do not install both automated wipe mods for the same purpose unless you have a specific, tested reason. Two independent schedules can create overlapping wipes, confusing warnings and unnecessary load.

Route 2: Use a managed hosting-panel scheduler

Some server managers expose recurring wild-dino wipes in a control-panel card rather than requiring a mod file. An ARK Ascended Server Manager guide updated in July 2026 describes a Dino Management card with recurring wipes, player warnings and an immediate-wipe action. The guide does not establish which hosting providers support the feature, so look for the control in your own panel rather than assuming it exists.

Panel setup workflow

  1. Open the panel’s ASA server management page and locate the dino-management or creature-management area.
  2. Check whether the panel distinguishes a wild-dino wipe from a complete creature reset. Select the wild-only option if both are present.
  3. Set the recurrence and maintenance time offered by the panel. If the panel does not state its timezone, confirm it with the host before publishing a schedule.
  4. Enable player warnings and set enough lead time for players to leave caves, stop breeding operations and store vulnerable materials.
  5. Use the immediate-wipe control once in a test window if the panel provides one, then verify respawns and protected creatures.
  6. Read the panel’s restart behavior. Some implementations perform the wipe as part of a scheduled restart rather than as an independent task.

The restart-only limitation reported for Nitrado

A roughly two-year-old Steam forum post reported a general-settings checkbox labelled enable auto wild dino wipe on server restart. The poster also described an automatic restart every 24–48 hours and said the dashboard did not offer a way to automate only the dino wipe without restarting. This is an anecdotal forum report, not an official guarantee, and it may be outdated. If your panel shows a similar option, confirm the current behavior with a test restart and current host documentation.

A restart-based wipe has a different operational cost from a scheduled in-session wipe: every player is disconnected, server startup time becomes part of the maintenance window, and the wipe cadence is tied to restart frequency. Choose it only if that interruption is acceptable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Route 3: Run the manual command for one-off wipes

The command used for a manual wild-population reset is DestroyWildDinos. It is useful for testing an automation route, correcting an overpopulated map or performing an occasional maintenance wipe when no scheduler is available. It is not itself an automatic schedule.

Why command scope must be tested

The references disagree about how far the command reaches. One says it removes every wild creature on the map and that a new population appears over the following few minutes. Another says it affects only the map cell loaded in memory and recommends running a true full-map wipe from the server console through RCON. Because those descriptions conflict, do not promise players a full-map result until you have tested your own ASA server.

  1. Announce the test and stop activities that depend on a stable wild population.
  2. Run DestroyWildDinos with administrator privileges through the console method your server supports.
  3. Record which nearby creatures disappear and whether distant areas repopulate after several minutes.
  4. If your test indicates cell-limited behavior, repeat the operation using the server console or RCON path recommended by your host and compare the result.
  5. Check tamed creatures, boss-related animals and protected locations before declaring the wipe successful.

The command references state that tamed creatures are not affected. That protection does not eliminate the need to test: a command can leave some wild cells untouched even while correctly preserving tames.

Design a schedule players can live with

Pick a time zone policy

For Automated Dino Wipes, the schedule is UTC. Publish both the UTC value and a converted local time in your server rules. Recheck the conversion when daylight-saving time changes; the configured UTC value does not automatically follow a local clock.

Choose cadence from actual population pressure

A wipe should solve a population problem, not become an arbitrary interruption. Start with the least frequent cadence that restores spawns for your map and community. A server with heavy breeding, frequent travel and high creature turnover may need a different cadence from a small private map. Measure player reports and observe respawn recovery before adding another scheduled time.

Separate warning, wipe and verification windows

  • Send a warning before the wipe using the mod’s broadcast feature or the host panel’s warning control.
  • Reserve the wipe duration itself for reduced activity. A ten-minute operation and a one-minute operation create different maintenance windows even if they start at the same time.
  • Leave time afterward for respawns. Players should know that the map may look sparsely populated immediately after the wipe.
  • Have an administrator online for the first run and after any mod or panel update.

Troubleshooting automatic wipes

The scheduled wipe never runs

  • Check that the schedule uses hh:mm and UTC, not your local timezone.
  • Confirm that the active configuration contains the edited key and that the server loaded the file after your change.
  • Check whether WipeOnServerStart or its equivalent is the only enabled trigger; a start-up toggle does not create a recurring schedule.
  • Verify the current mod release and option names. The Automated Dino Wipes listing was already about 506 days old on the research date, so an update may have changed configuration.
  • For a panel scheduler, confirm whether the task is enabled and whether it is tied to a restart.

The wipe causes unacceptable lag

With Automated Dino Wipes, increase WipeLengthSeconds gradually. The listing specifically describes higher values as producing less lag because the operation is spread out. Do not jump directly to an instant wipe on a busy server; use a quiet test period and monitor player reports and server performance.

Important creatures disappear

Review the blacklist spelling exactly as it appears in-game and enable the separate cave-dino, beehive and nest-egg protections where appropriate. If you use Hyper’s mod, inspect the category switches for tamed, boss, large, aquatic and flying creatures. A manual DestroyWildDinos run does not provide those mod-specific filters, so restore your intended protection policy before the next automated run.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Players see no new wildlife

Allow several minutes for repopulation and check more than the area where the command was executed. If distant regions remain unchanged, your server may be exhibiting the cell-limited behavior described by one command reference. Test the server-console or RCON method and document the result for your administrators.

Restarts trigger unexpected wipes

Inspect both the start-up toggle and the host’s restart policy. Set WipeOnServerStart=False when a restart should not wipe populations, and review any panel option equivalent to an auto wipe on restart. A restart cadence of 24–48 hours, as reported in the older forum anecdote, can create frequent wipes even when players did not request a separate schedule.

Claims you should not assume

  • No official Studio Wildcard documentation for a dedicated automatic dino-wipe setting was established in the material available for this guide. Treat community tools and host features as separate from an official built-in setting.
  • It was not established whether changing spawn settings affects only newly spawned creatures. Do not use that assumption as a substitute for a wipe.
  • Host support is not universal. A scheduler described by a server-manager guide may be absent from your provider’s panel.
  • A guide written for ARK: Survival Evolved is not an ASA procedure. Do not copy SE-specific wipe instructions into an ASA server without confirming that the commands and settings apply.

A practical decision checklist

  • Self-hosted and need fixed daily times: install the current Automated Dino Wipes release, configure UTC times, choose a nonzero duration, protect required species and test manually.
  • Self-hosted and prefer elapsed intervals: evaluate Hyper’s interval setting and category protection switches, then test its start-up behavior before enabling it.
  • Managed host with a Dino Management card: use the panel scheduler, confirm timezone and restart behavior, enable warnings and perform an immediate test.
  • Managed host with only an auto-wipe-on-restart checkbox: decide whether player disconnections every restart are acceptable; if not, ask the host about an independent scheduler or use a supported mod.
  • Need one reset now: run DestroyWildDinos, observe its scope and respawn behavior, and do not treat that one-off command as proof that an automated full-map wipe will work.

For most self-hosted ASA servers, the safest starting pattern is a tested manual wipe followed by Automated Dino Wipes with UTC scheduling, warnings enabled, a nonzero duration and explicit exclusions. For managed servers, inspect the panel first; if its only automation is restart-based, weigh the wipe against the downtime before enabling it.
