To notify YouTube subscribers when you go live, schedule the stream in YouTube Studio, share its upcoming watch page, and make the stream public when you start broadcasting. YouTube can show scheduled streams as upcoming and let viewers choose Notify me; its live notification is sent only after YouTube detects that a public encoder stream is live. That is different from automatically publishing a separate Community post or posting to another social network.
What “automatically post” means on YouTube
YouTube’s native tools can create an upcoming live-stream page, let viewers opt in to a reminder, and notify eligible subscribers when a public stream is actually live. Scheduling does not, by itself, publish a separate Community announcement or a post to another social platform. YouTube says a scheduled stream “may show up in your subscribers feed as upcoming.” YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.

The reminder is viewer-controlled: subscribers can select Notify me on the scheduled stream. Whether they receive YouTube’s later notification depends on their notification choices and account or device settings.

Schedule a stream and alert viewers
- Open YouTube Studio. Select Create → Go Live, then open the Manage tab.
- Schedule the stream. Create a scheduled stream and set its title, start time, and privacy. Use Public if you want YouTube’s public-live notification behavior.
- Share the upcoming watch page. Copy its URL and share it with your audience. YouTube recommends sharing the streaming link at least 48 hours before the event when possible. YouTube Help: Promote your live stream.
- Invite viewers to set a reminder. Ask them to open the scheduled page and choose Notify me. Their reminder depends on opting in and allowing YouTube notifications.
- Start the broadcast at the scheduled time. Start sending video through your encoder, or use YouTube’s webcam workflow. Complete the Live Control Room’s go-live step if your setup requires it. For encoder streams, YouTube sends live notifications after the stream is public and YouTube detects that you are live.
A webcam or encoder is part of producing the broadcast, not a requirement for scheduling the event or enabling reminders. YouTube also supports webcam streaming through its live setup workflow. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.

Who receives notifications—and when
- Live notifications go to subscribers who have selected All notifications for your channel and enabled YouTube notifications for their account and device.
- For an encoder stream, YouTube waits until the stream is public and it detects that the creator is live. A scheduled page alone does not mean the live notification has been sent.
- YouTube may personalize delivery, so some subscribers receive a notification later than others. Device and account settings can prevent delivery.
- YouTube Help’s 2026 guidance sets a maximum of 3 notifications per channel in 24 hours across uploads, live streams, and Premieres. It also limits Community post notifications to 1 per 3-day period. These are platform limits, not a promise that every subscriber will receive an alert.
There is no creator-side setting that guarantees immediate delivery to every subscriber or guarantees they will attend.
Public, unlisted, and upload-notification settings
Privacy affects discovery and notification behavior. Unlisted live streams do not send subscriber notifications. For public live streams, YouTube says it is not possible to disable public-live video notifications using the upload-notification checkbox. YouTube Help: Skip sending upload notifications.
Choose privacy according to the audience you intend to reach, not as a workaround for the upload-notification setting. A public scheduled stream can appear to subscribers as upcoming; an unlisted event is intended for people with its link and does not trigger subscriber notifications.

Can the YouTube API post automatically?
Developers can use Google’s YouTube Live Streaming API to create and manage broadcasts. Creating a broadcast requires properties such as a title, scheduled start time, and privacy status; the API also documents settings including enableAutoStart and enableAutoStop. Broadcast and stream resources must be bound and moved through their lifecycle, and write operations require user authorization. Broadcasts: insert · LiveBroadcasts resource and lifecycle · YouTube Live Streaming API overview.
This is a developer route for managing YouTube broadcasts, not a no-code social-posting feature. The API documentation does not establish that it creates a Community announcement or publishes a post to other platforms. If you need those actions, verify the current trigger support, account permissions, and terms of any separate service before relying on it.
Common notification problems and fixes
- The scheduled page is visible, but subscribers did not get a live alert: confirm the stream is Public, start sending the broadcast, and verify YouTube detects it as live. An upcoming event page is not the same as the live notification.
- Some subscribers got an alert and others did not: viewers must opt in to the relevant channel and YouTube notification settings. Personalized timing and device or account settings also affect delivery; the creator cannot force universal delivery.
- The stream is unlisted: unlisted live streams do not send subscriber notifications. Use a public stream if subscriber alerts are the goal.
- The upload-notification checkbox seems unavailable or ineffective: public live notifications cannot be disabled through that upload setting. For live streams, focus on privacy and actually starting the broadcast.
- You planned a separate Community post: scheduling a live event does not automatically publish one. Community post notifications have a separate limit of one per channel in a three-day period under YouTube Help’s 2026 guidance.
Keep a pre-recorded YouTube stream running from the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded video playing as an always-on YouTube live stream rather than announce a one-time live session, StreamNeo is a separate option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It does not go live from a camera.
