YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. For a 24/7 Indian music channel, use consecutive broadcasts that end with a safety margin before that limit, verify each replay in YouTube Studio, and keep a separate local recording as backup.
Will YouTube save a 24/7 stream?
Not reliably as one complete replay. YouTube’s Archive live streams guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. The wording is “less than 12 hours”; do not treat exactly 12 hours as a safe target, and do not promise a complete archive from a continuous 24-hour broadcast.

YouTube does not prescribe a specific shorter session length or guarantee that every eligible stream will appear as a replay. Splitting the schedule into sessions that end comfortably before 12 hours is a practical way to reduce the risk, not a platform guarantee.
Set up an archive workflow
1. Divide the 24-hour schedule into shorter sessions
-
Plan consecutive livestream sessions, each ending with a margin before YouTube’s 12-hour threshold. Leave enough time to end one broadcast and start the next without treating the schedule as a single all-day stream.

After each session ends, open YouTube Studio and check that its replay appears before relying on it as your only copy. YouTube’s archive guidance explains how to find and manage archived live streams.
2. Record a separate local copy
YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup. Keep that file separate from the replay hosted on YouTube: it gives you another copy if the platform archive is missing or incomplete. The Help page does not require a particular recording application or specify how to automate unattended recording, so choose a method that fits your streaming setup and verify it is actually writing files.

Plan storage from your actual resolution, bitrate, and retention period. There is no universal drive capacity that fits every stream; an external hard drive is one possible local storage category.
3. Review automation settings before going live
If your broadcasts are created or managed through the YouTube Live Streaming API, review its recording, archive, DVR, auto-start, and auto-stop settings before the broadcast goes live. The API documents recordFromStart, which starts recording after a broadcast becomes live and defaults to true, as well as enableArchive and DVR controls. These settings do not remove YouTube’s warning about streams exceeding 12 hours. Some broadcast settings have state-dependent update restrictions, so do not assume every option can be changed after a broadcast is live.

Understand replay, DVR, and local recording
These are different functions. A YouTube replay is the platform-hosted archive; a local recording is a separate file you control; DVR gives viewers controls such as pausing, rewinding, and fast-forwarding during a live stream. The API describes DVR behavior, and the OBS Project forum guide notes that DVR limits can vary by latency and device. DVR is not a durable backup and does not make a long broadcast reliably archivable.

Clear music rights before the broadcast
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including copyrighted material in another live broadcast. Its copyright guidance says a stream can be interrupted or terminated when third-party content is detected. A replay may also receive a Content ID claim after the broadcast ends.

Having a license for music does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption: YouTube says the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Confirm that your rights cover both the live broadcast and its replay in the relevant territories, and coordinate channel allowlisting with the rights holder when needed. YouTube’s platform guidance describes its detection and enforcement process; it does not determine whether your particular use complies with Indian copyright law or replace your license terms.

StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos; it plays uploaded recordings, not a live camera feed. The workflow is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. For a 24/7 schedule, this avoids leaving a home computer or connection running. StreamNeo charges one flat price per slot for the uploaded quality, up to 4K 60fps, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details. This keeps the YouTube broadcast running; it does not replace checking that YouTube created the replay or keeping a separate local archive if you need an independent copy.

Fix common archive problems
The replay is missing after a 24-hour broadcast
A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured. Check YouTube Studio, then use the local recording if it was made. For future broadcasts, split the schedule into sessions ending with a margin before 12 hours.
The local file is missing or unusable
Check whether recording was enabled in your chosen setup, whether the destination had available storage, and whether a file was being written during the broadcast. Test playback of completed recordings rather than assuming that an enabled setting produced a valid backup.
The stream is interrupted or the replay receives a claim
Review YouTube’s copyright notice and identify the detected content. Confirm the license covers the live use and replay, then ask the rights holder about channel allowlisting if the music is licensed. A claim or interruption is governed by YouTube’s enforcement process and the applicable rights; an archive setting cannot resolve music-rights issues.
