Start with a contiguous list of URLs and test one row; the screenshot provider determines whether Make receives an image file, a hosted URL, or both.
Set up the Google Sheet for screenshot jobs
Create a header row and keep one website URL on each subsequent row. A practical layout is:

| URL | Status | Screenshot | Captured at | Error |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| https://example.com | Pending |
Keep rows contiguous. Make warns that a blank row can stop its Google Sheets Watch New Rows module from processing later rows. For a row-level audit trail, write a result such as captured or failed, the screenshot reference returned by the provider, a timestamp, and a readable error when relevant.

Build the Make scenario
- Connect Google Sheets. Add a Google Sheets module in Make, choose the intended account and spreadsheet, and authorize the connection. Grant access to the account and spreadsheet the scenario needs; Make’s connection flow has you select a Google account and approve access (Make connection documentation).
- Choose a trigger. For newly added URLs, use Google Sheets Watch New Rows and select the spreadsheet and sheet. If you need to process an existing list, arrange a deliberate backfill or use a scheduled search for rows still marked Pending. Do not assume the new-row trigger will revisit old rows. Make also lists Watch Changes, but its integration listing describes changes made in the Google Sheets app; do not assume edits made through every other route will trigger it (Google Sheets and HTTP Integration).
- Add the screenshot step. Choose a screenshot-specific app or use Make’s HTTP Make a request module with a provider’s documented endpoint, authentication method, and request format. Provider choice determines the configuration and returned data.
- Map the output. Run a test and inspect the module’s actual output bundle. It may contain a file, a hosted image URL, or both; do not assume a universal field name or output type. If the result is a URL and the next step needs a file, Make’s HTTP app includes Download a file. Map the applicable output into Google Sheets Update a Row, along with the row’s status and any error information.
- Test and activate. Test with one URL before turning on the scenario. Confirm that the correct source row gets updated and that a failed request does not leave the row looking successful or cause unintended repeat captures.
Make describes a scenario as “a workflow or a project of your own creation, and it is made up of a series of modules that automate apps and services” (Make Help Center).

Choose a screenshot method
Make’s listed options include native screenshot integrations and its general-purpose HTTP app. The documentation establishes available module types and HTTP capabilities, not comparative screenshot fidelity, speed, or price.
| Method | What Make lists | Suitable when | Check before relying on it |
|---|---|---|---|
| ScreenshotNeo | Website screenshot API and MCP server; a single GET request accepts a URL and returns a clean image or PDF. | You want a direct API call, clean captures, or screenshot access for an AI agent. | Choose the output and options you need in the API documentation; check the response headers and map the actual response in Make. |
| GetScreenshot app | Make lists Take Screenshot and Take Element Screenshot; an active GetScreenshot account and API key are required. | You want screenshot-specific Make modules, including an element capture action. | Confirm API-key setup, current limits and pricing, retention terms, and the output fields in your module version. GetScreenshot app documentation. |
| HTML to Image API integration | Make lists Capture Website Screenshot from a URL and PDF generation in its Google Sheets integration. | You also need the integration’s PDF-generation capability. | Confirm connection requirements, formats, limits, pricing, and output fields. HTML to Image API and Google Sheets integration. |
| Make HTTP request | Make’s HTTP app supports API requests, file downloads, HTTPS, and multiple authentication methods. | Your screenshot provider documents an API endpoint and request schema. | Verify endpoint, authentication, response shape, quotas, and whether you need a separate download step. HTTP app documentation. |
For a provider API, Make documents Basic Auth, API key, and OAuth 2.0 options depending on the target service. Put credentials in the HTTP module’s dedicated Credentials field rather than placing secrets in headers or query parameters; the HTTP app requires HTTPS (Make HTTP app documentation).

Or skip the browser setup
Instead of configuring a browser or screenshot-specific module, Make can call ScreenshotNeo’s API with one GET request. In an HTTP request module, use the endpoint and parameters below (replace the key with your ScreenshotNeo API key); see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and response details.

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each of those steps can be disabled. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response includes X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Make the workflow dependable
- Track the row that triggered the run. Carry its row identifier or other stable reference through the screenshot step, then update that same row rather than searching by URL alone if duplicates are possible.
- Separate success from failure. On success, write the returned screenshot reference and capture time. On failure, write a failed status and the available error details so the row can be diagnosed and retried intentionally.
- Decide how HTTP errors behave. Make’s HTTP app offers Return error if HTTP request fails for 4xx and 5xx responses. Configure the route and error handling to match whether you want the scenario to stop, record a failure, or continue to other rows (HTTP app documentation).
- Keep the trigger predictable. Avoid blank rows in a watched range, and use a Pending or equivalent marker for deliberate backfills. Make’s scenario planning guide can help structure the trigger, processing steps, and failure path (scenario planning).
- Check usage and storage before scaling. Provider quotas, Make credit consumption, run frequency, and image-retention terms depend on the services and plan in use; they are not established universally by the module listings. Confirm them with the selected providers before processing a large sheet.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |
|---|---|---|
| Rows after one point are not processed | A blank row interrupts the watched rows. | Remove blank rows between data entries and test the trigger again (Google Sheets modules). |
| Existing URLs are not captured | Watch New Rows is intended for newly added rows, not automatic replay of the existing list. | Run a planned backfill or schedule a search for rows still marked Pending. |
| An edit did not start the scenario | Watch Changes is documented for changes made in the Google Sheets app. | Check how the edit was made; use a scheduled search or another suitable trigger if that edit route is not covered by the watcher. |
| The sheet cell is empty or maps the wrong value | The provider’s output may be a file, a URL, or a different field than expected. | Inspect the latest module output bundle and map the actual field. Add Download a file only if a downstream step requires file data. |
| The HTTP step fails on a 4xx or 5xx response | The provider rejected the request or returned a server error, and the HTTP error setting may stop the route. | Check the endpoint, required parameters, credentials, and response; configure Return error if HTTP request fails and a row-level failure path as appropriate. |
| The scenario cannot authenticate | The connected Google account may lack access, or the screenshot API credentials may be missing or placed incorrectly. | Reauthorize the intended Google account and spreadsheet. For HTTP authentication, use the method supported by the provider and Make’s dedicated Credentials field over HTTPS. |
Frequently asked questions
Can I capture only part of a webpage?
Make lists a Take Element Screenshot action in its GetScreenshot app. Whether and how an element selector is configured depends on that module’s current fields.
Can the scenario save a PDF instead of an image?
Make’s HTML to Image API and Google Sheets integration listing includes PDF generation. Confirm the module’s current settings and returned output before mapping it into the sheet.
Rank #4
Can I make screenshots for URLs already in my sheet?
Yes. Use a deliberate one-time backfill or a scheduled search for unprocessed rows; the new-row watcher should not be treated as a replay mechanism.
