How to Automate Website Screenshots from Google Sheets with Pabbly Connect

Use a Google Sheets row event to trigger a Pabbly website screenshot action, then verify its current inputs, output, storage path, and task usage.

You can build this workflow in Pabbly Connect by using a Google Sheets row event to start a workflow, then adding a website-screenshot action that takes a page URL. Pabbly lists the trigger as “New or Updated Spreadsheet Row” and the screenshot action as “Get Screenshot from URL” or, in a related integration listing, “Capture Website Screenshot.” The listings confirm that path, but not the exact fields, authentication, output, or image-storage setup, so verify those details in your current Pabbly editor before relying on the workflow.

How the Google Sheets screenshot workflow works

Pabbly describes a workflow as a trigger followed by one or more action steps. In this case, the Google Sheets event starts the workflow, and an HTML-to-image action captures a webpage using a URL from the row. Pabbly’s HTML to Image + API listing describes its action as “Capture Screenshot of a Website or Webpage from a URL.” Pabbly Connect HTML to Image + API integration listing.

The listings establish the integration path and action names, not every configuration detail. In particular, they do not document the precise URL input field, screenshot dimensions or format for URL captures, authentication requirements, returned data structure, or where an image is stored. Treat the names below as the options to look for in the editor, not a guarantee that every account will show an identical form.

Prepare the spreadsheet

A simple sheet makes it easier to map a page address into the screenshot step. This layout is a practical choice, not a Pabbly-mandated schema:

#1 Best Overall
Column Example value Purpose
URL https://example.com/ The page you want the screenshot action to capture.
Status Ready Optional marker for your own tracking; confirm whether and how your trigger reacts to edits.
Notes Homepage check Optional context for people maintaining the sheet.

Use one row per page as a manageable starting point. Before connecting the sheet, make sure the URL cells contain complete, public page addresses and that the account used in Pabbly can access the spreadsheet.

Build the workflow in Pabbly Connect

  1. Create a workflow: In Pabbly Connect, start a new workflow and choose Google Sheets as the trigger app.
  2. Choose the row event: Select “New or Updated Spreadsheet Row,” the trigger named in Pabbly’s Google Sheets + HTML/CSS to Image template listing. Pabbly Google Sheets + HTML/CSS to Image integration listing.
  3. Connect and select the sheet: Follow the current editor’s prompts to authorize Google Sheets and choose the spreadsheet and worksheet. The listing does not specify the exact connection or selection fields.
  4. Add the screenshot action: Add HTML/CSS to Image and look for “Get Screenshot from URL,” or select the related HTML to Image + API integration and look for “Capture Website Screenshot.” Pabbly lists both names, but the listings do not establish that their forms or outputs are interchangeable.
  5. Map the page URL: In the live action form, identify the field that accepts the webpage URL, then map it to the URL column from the trigger data. Do not assume a field name or authentication method from the listing alone; use the editor’s current labels and requirements.
  6. Run a controlled test: Use a public page you are authorized to capture. Inspect the action’s returned data and confirm whether it provides an image, a file URL, or another result before configuring a later step.
  7. Choose what happens next: After you know what the action returns, add a suitable next action to store or distribute the result. The integration listings do not identify a default storage destination.
  8. Enable the workflow only after verification: Check the trigger’s behavior for edits and repeated rows, decide how you will notice failed captures, and review how many billable action steps the completed workflow uses.

Which screenshot action should you choose?

Pabbly’s listings expose two related action names. They do not give enough detail to conclude that one is better, or that the two actions accept the same fields.

Listing Action name What the listing establishes What to verify in the editor
Google Sheets + HTML/CSS to Image “Get Screenshot from URL” A ready-to-use template pairs this action with “New or Updated Spreadsheet Row.” URL input, authentication, available output, image format and dimensions, and how to pass the result to a storage or sharing step.
HTML to Image + API “Capture Website Screenshot” The action is described as capturing a screenshot of a website or webpage from a URL. URL input, authentication, available output, image format and dimensions, and how to pass the result to a storage or sharing step.

Choose based on the current action form and the result your next step needs—not on the action label alone.

Task usage and cost checks

Pabbly’s general billing explanation says action steps count as tasks, while triggers and internal steps such as Filter, Router, and Formatter do not. It does not state the total task usage or current price for this particular workflow. Pabbly Connect.

  • Do not assume the screenshot step’s billing treatment or task consumption from the integration listing; confirm it in Pabbly’s current product and billing information.
  • Consider how often rows may be added or updated. Since the listing does not spell out repeat-trigger behavior, test representative changes before processing a large sheet.

Troubleshooting and production checks

The trigger does not start

Confirm the Google Sheets connection, selected spreadsheet and worksheet, and the event configuration shown in the editor. Test with a new row and an edited row separately; the integration listing names a new-or-updated-row trigger but does not document its exact firing rules.

The screenshot action rejects the URL

Check that the mapped value is a complete URL rather than a blank cell or unrelated column. Confirm that the action’s current form accepts the URL in the field you mapped and that any required connection or authentication is configured.

The action runs but you cannot find the image

Inspect the action’s returned fields in the test result. The listing does not say whether the output is image data, a file URL, or another value, or where it is stored. Configure a storage or sharing step only after you know which output the action returns and what that next app accepts.

A workflow succeeds in a test but fails on real rows

Compare the tested row with failing rows for empty URLs, access-restricted pages, or differences in the action inputs. Check the workflow history for the actual error, then verify the current action’s requirements rather than assuming the listing covers failure handling.

Runs or task counts are higher than expected

Review whether edits as well as new rows start runs, and count the action steps in the configured workflow. Pabbly’s general rule excludes triggers and internal Filter, Router, and Formatter steps from task counts, but it does not specify the exact billable total for this setup.

If you want to capture a URL without configuring the Pabbly action, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request screenshot API. One GET request with a URL returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; its parameter names also work with those used by other screenshot APIs. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and responses include X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. Its MCP server includes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The Free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. No. It does not specify a storage destination or the precise returned data structure; inspect the action’s test output and configure a separate next step if needed.

Are “Get Screenshot from URL” and “Capture Website Screenshot” interchangeable?

The listings do not establish that. Compare their current inputs, authentication, output, and format options in the Pabbly editor.
