To capture a webpage when a Notion database entry is added, create an n8n workflow that receives the page data, validates its URL, sends it to a screenshot API, and routes the returned image to storage or a notification. One documented route uses n8n’s Notion Trigger and Browserless’s screenshot API; an explicit Notion database automation that calls an n8n Webhook is another option.
What you need before building the workflow
- An n8n deployment, either n8n Cloud or self-hosted. n8n is designed to connect apps and APIs; deployment choice depends on your operational needs. n8n
- A Notion database with a URL property containing the webpage to capture.
- A Notion integration with access to the relevant database or page. A trigger does not automatically grant access to every property or page; share the relevant content with the integration. Notion authorization
- A Browserless account and API token for the documented screenshot route. Keep the token in n8n credentials rather than embedding it in workflow data. Browserless screenshot API
Choose how the workflow starts
Use n8n’s Notion Trigger for a supported database event
Use the Notion Trigger when the workflow should respond to the page-added-to-database event supported by that node. Confirm the event and returned properties in your n8n deployment, because the exact available fields depend on your configuration. n8n Notion Trigger documentation

Use a Notion automation to call an n8n Webhook
Choose this route when you want an explicitly configured database automation or button action to send a webhook to n8n. Notion database automation webhook actions are distinct from Notion connection webhooks, which notify an integration about changes to shared pages and databases. Use the mechanism that matches the event you want, rather than treating the two webhook types as interchangeable. Notion database automations Notion connection webhooks

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBuild the Notion-to-screenshot workflow
- Prepare the database. Add a URL property for the page to capture, then share the relevant database or page with the Notion integration used by n8n. Property names and permissions vary by workspace and integration.
- Add the trigger. In n8n, create a workflow with the Notion Trigger and select the supported page-added-to-database event. Alternatively, add an n8n Webhook node and configure a Notion database automation or button action to send it a request. Test the trigger and inspect its output before mapping fields.
- Map and validate the URL. Add a filter or conditional step that rejects missing values and values that are not valid web URLs. Map the URL from the actual trigger output and your database property name; expressions are schema-specific, so do not assume one field path works for every database.
- Call the screenshot endpoint. Add an HTTP Request node configured for a POST to Browserless’s
/screenshotendpoint. Send JSON containing the targeturl; provide the Browserless token through an n8n credential or protected query-parameter setting, not as a literal secret in an exported workflow. Follow Browserless’s current endpoint and request format documentation. Browserless screenshot API - Set the capture options. Choose full-page capture for a long page or selector capture for a particular element. Select the image format and viewport dimensions that fit the next step. The page’s rendered result can vary with its state, access controls, and lazy-loaded content.
- Route the image. Configure the HTTP Request node and following node to pass the response as binary image data. Send that binary output to the storage or notification destination you choose. There is no single universal storage design; if you also want to record a file or link on the originating Notion page, verify the selected destination’s file/link behavior and the Notion permissions it requires.
- Test the complete route. Run the workflow with a test database entry and confirm the trigger exposes the expected URL, the request returns an image, and the downstream node receives the image as binary data. Then test a missing URL and a page that cannot be loaded so you can confirm the workflow handles them deliberately.
Browserless publishes an n8n HTTP Request example for its screenshot endpoint that returns an image buffer. Use it as a reference for the node configuration and credential setup, then adapt the property mapping and destination to your workflow. n8n workflow templates

Choose capture scope and output
| Decision | Use it when | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Full page | You need the whole rendered page rather than only the visible viewport. | Enable Browserless’s documented fullPage option. Long pages and lazy-loaded content can affect what appears in the capture. |
| Selected element | You need a particular section or component. | Use the documented selector option and confirm the selector matches an element on the rendered page. |
| Format | You need to balance image compatibility and file handling for the next workflow step. | Choose an image format supported by the endpoint and downstream destination; Browserless documents image output. |
| Viewport | The page layout should reflect a particular viewing size. | Set dimensions appropriate to the intended output and check that responsive layout changes do not hide the content you need. |
Handle failures, repeat runs, and operational details
- Missing or malformed URL: stop or route the item before the external request. Decide whether to flag the Notion entry, log it, or notify an owner.
- Access denied or bot challenge: the target may require authentication or block automated browsing. Check whether you have permission to capture it and whether the provider can access it; do not assume an API request can bypass access controls.
- Timeout or failed load: inspect the target’s availability and the request’s configured timeout. Decide whether to retry, mark the item for review, or skip it. The cited documentation does not establish a universal retry policy or delivery-time guarantee.
- API error: inspect the HTTP status and response body, verify endpoint and credential configuration, and keep secrets out of workflow exports and logs where possible.
- Unexpected binary output: check the HTTP Request node’s response handling and confirm the next node receives the image buffer rather than parsed JSON or text.
- Duplicate or updated entries: decide whether an edit should generate a new capture, replace an earlier file, or do nothing. The choice depends on your record-keeping needs.
Trigger timing, node fields, and output settings should be verified in the chosen n8n deployment; the available documentation does not establish an end-to-end latency promise, polling interval, or behavior guarantee for every version or plan. No pricing or plan comparison is established here for n8n or Browserless.
Or skip the browser setup
Instead of configuring a browser screenshot provider in n8n, call ScreenshotNeo, a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its one-request API can return a screenshot or PDF, and its documented options cover full-page captures, CSS selectors, output formats, viewport dimensions, and other capture controls. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for current parameters.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
In n8n, configure an HTTP Request node to make a GET request to https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot, pass your API key and the Notion URL as parameters, and keep the returned image as binary output for the next node. Store the key in n8n credentials. Replace the example URL with the URL property mapped from your trigger output.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Notion button start the screenshot workflow?
Yes. Configure a Notion database automation or button action to send a webhook to an n8n Webhook trigger; this is different from a Notion connection webhook.
Can I capture only part of a webpage rather than the full page?
Yes. Browserless documents selector-based capture as well as full-page capture; use the option that matches the content you need.
