To generate multiple Gemini images and save them automatically, use the Gemini API with a script that sends prompts and writes each returned image to a uniquely named file. For jobs that can run asynchronously, Google’s Batch API supports image generation, with turnaround that may take up to 24 hours. Gemini Apps is the simpler no-code option, but its documented workflow has you download images one at a time.
Choose the right Gemini workflow
| What you need | Route | What it does | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| A few images without code | Gemini Apps | Generate an image, then use its download control. | Downloading is user-initiated; Google’s help page does not document batch prompts with automatic saving. |
| Many prompts saved to files | Gemini API with a script | Submit prompts programmatically and save image data returned by the API. | Requires developer setup and code; you must handle filenames, errors, and account limits. |
| A large job that can wait | Gemini API Batch API | Submit image-generation work as a batch job. | Jobs are asynchronous and may take up to 24 hours; check current model support, limits, and pricing before scaling up. |
Automatically save images with the Gemini API
Google’s official Gemini API image-generation guide includes Python and JavaScript examples that generate an image and write the returned image data to a PNG file. Those examples demonstrate saving an individual response; a multi-prompt workflow needs a loop and file-management logic of your own.

Set up a reliable multi-prompt workflow
- Choose interactive requests or a batch job. Use regular API calls when you want to receive results and iterate promptly. Choose Batch API when the job can wait; Google says image-generation batch jobs can take up to 24 hours.
- Prepare prompts and filenames. Assign each prompt a unique sequence number or sanitized prompt slug. Reusing one filename can overwrite earlier results.
- Follow the current image-generation example for your SDK and model. The documented Python and JavaScript patterns read returned image data and write it to a file. Confirm the current model and SDK instructions in Google’s guide before implementing.
- Repeat the request-and-save pattern for each prompt. Add error handling and keep a record linking each prompt to its output file. Unique naming, retries, and prompt logging are script design choices—not automatic features of the one-image example.
- For a batch job, retrieve its results using the current Batch API instructions. Save each returned image under a distinct filename rather than treating the job as an instant download.
- Check current account limits before scaling up. Verify supported models, prices, quotas, rate limits, and applicable terms in Google’s documentation. These details can change and depend on your account.
Google’s Gemini API reference describes batch mode. Consult it alongside the image-generation guide for the current submission and result-retrieval process.
Generate and download occasional images in Gemini Apps
For a small number of images, open Gemini Apps, enter a prompt, and generate the image. On the web app, hover over the result and select its download control. Google’s Gemini Apps Help page also describes exporting an image to Docs.
#1 Best Overall
This is a user-driven workflow, not a documented hands-off process for submitting many separate prompts and automatically saving every result. For prompts, Google suggests starting with a request such as “draw,” “generate,” or “create,” then specifying the subject, action, setting, and style. Interface labels and model names may change.

Gemini Apps availability can depend on your country or language, sign-in status, age, and account type. Check Google’s current eligibility and availability guidance if you cannot access image generation. API prices, quotas, and rate limits are account- and time-sensitive, so verify them in the current developer documentation before running a large workload.
