Assess Nike as both a business and a stock: examine whether demand and profits are improving, then decide whether the current share price is reasonable under bear, base and bull assumptions. Nike’s FY2026 results showed flat reported revenue and lower diluted earnings per share, but those figures alone do not show whether NKE shares are cheap or expensive. Nike had scheduled FY2027 first-quarter results for October 1, 2026; check the company’s latest release and SEC filings before relying on FY2026 as the latest comparison.
Start with the latest reported results
Nike, Inc.’s fiscal 2026 ended May 31, 2026. The company reported $46.4 billion in revenue, flat year over year on a reported basis and down 2% on a currency-neutral basis. Net income was $3.1 billion and diluted earnings per share (EPS) were $2.10, each down 3% from FY2025. These are company-reported fiscal-year figures, not a current-quarter update. Review Nike’s investor relations releases and SEC filings for results published after FY2026, including the FY2027 Q1 release scheduled for October 1, 2026.

Check where sales are coming from
Consolidated revenue can conceal important changes in how and where Nike sells. In FY2026, NIKE Brand wholesale revenue was $27.5 billion, while NIKE Direct revenue was $17.7 billion. NIKE Direct fell 6% on a reported basis and 8% currency-neutral. NIKE Brand revenue was $45.2 billion, up 1% reported but down 1% currency-neutral; North American growth was partly offset by declines in Greater China and EMEA. Converse revenue was $1.2 billion, down 31% reported and 32% currency-neutral.
When reading a new report, compare both reported and currency-neutral growth, and follow the channel and regional trends rather than treating total sales as the whole story.
#1 Best Overall
- Is wholesale growth broad-based, or concentrated in one geography or product area?
- Does NIKE Direct weakness stabilize, deepen or reverse?
- Are footwear, apparel and equipment moving in the same direction?
- Are reported growth rates materially different from currency-neutral rates?
Nike sells athletic footwear, apparel and equipment through its own stores and digital platforms as well as wholesale accounts. Its NIKE Brand reporting geographies are North America, EMEA, Greater China and APLA. Those distinctions help identify whether a company-wide figure reflects widespread demand or contrasting regional and channel results.
Separate sustainable margins from unusual effects
Nike’s FY2026 gross margin rose 20 basis points to 42.9%. In Q4, gross margin was 49.2%, up 890 basis points year over year, but the company said the quarter included an approximately 900-basis-point benefit tied to expected recovery of IEEPA tariffs. That policy-related benefit makes the Q4 increase a poor stand-alone basis for assuming a normal future margin.
Rank #2
Assess gross margin across several periods and read the explanation for changes. Look for the effects of pricing, promotions and markdowns, product mix, costs and any unusual tariff-related items. Then compare operating expenses with sales: a margin improvement does not necessarily translate into better operating performance if expenses rise faster.

EPS is useful, but it does not tell you by itself how much cash the business generates or what it needs to reinvest. Use Nike’s audited annual filing and newer quarterly filings to compare net income and EPS with operating cash flow, capital needs, and changes in share count. Check the balance sheet alongside the cash-flow statement; do not infer financial strength from a single earnings figure.
Keep GAAP results distinct from currency-neutral and other non-GAAP measures. Adjusted measures can help explain trends, but they should not replace the company’s reported GAAP figures.
Evaluate execution and business risks
Nike says its strategy is to pursue sustainable, profitable long-term revenue growth by leading with sport, developing innovative products, building consumer connections and delivering experiences through digital platforms and retail. That statement describes management’s plan; the investment question is whether results show it is working.
Rank #4
Look for evidence that products are resonating with consumers and selling at healthy prices, rather than relying on brand recognition or strategic language alone. Nike’s FY2026 CEO Elliott Hill said the company took actions to strengthen its foundation and reposition for long-term growth. That is management’s characterization, not independent proof that a turnaround is succeeding.
Nike’s annual filing identifies risks including changing consumer preferences, product relevance and innovation, competition, demand forecasting, inventory and third-party manufacturing, and international operations. For each earnings report, track revenue by geography and channel, gross margin and markdowns, inventory, operating expenses, cash generation and management guidance. A miss in one measure matters more when it appears alongside deterioration in others.
Best Value
Decide whether the share price compensates for the risks
A strong company is not automatically a well-priced stock. Start with a current, dated NKE share price, then select a valuation method and state your assumptions. No current quote, market capitalization or fair-value estimate is established here, so do not treat FY2026 results as a buy or sell signal.
- Choose a baseline: Use normalized EPS or cash flow rather than assuming an unusual quarter represents an ongoing level of earnings.
- Set scenarios: Build bear, base and bull cases for revenue growth, margins and earnings or cash flow. Tie the assumptions to the trends you observe in Nike’s filings.
- Calculate valuation consistently: Apply an appropriate multiple or other method to each scenario and compare the result with the dated share price. If comparing Nike with peers or an index, use the same date and comparable metrics.
- Challenge the conclusion: Ask how the valuation changes if Direct sales remain weak, regional declines persist, margins normalize below a recent quarter, or execution improves faster than expected.
Historical valuation multiples can provide context, but past prices and brand strength do not guarantee future returns. A valuation conclusion is only as reliable as its earnings assumptions and the price date used.
Fit the investment to your circumstances
Before deciding to buy, consider your time horizon, need for liquidity and exposure to other companies or consumer brands. A recognizable business can still be unsuitable if its price depends on optimistic assumptions or if adding it would leave your portfolio too concentrated. If you choose to purchase publicly listed NKE shares, a brokerage account is the service category used to place the trade; that is a practical route to buying shares, not an endorsement of a provider.

Check dividend details separately
Nike declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.41 per share payable October 1, 2026, to holders of record September 1, according to its announcement. Dividend declarations can change. Verify the latest company filing before relying on a future payment, and do not treat the announced per-share amount as a yield: yield depends on the share price and the dividend actually maintained.
