To turn off Aero Shake in Windows 11, go to Start > Settings > System > Multitasking and switch off Title bar window shake. You can still arrange apps with Snap: use Windows + an arrow key, drag a window to an edge, or open Snap layouts with Windows + Z. The shake setting and Snap are separate controls.
What does the Aero Shake setting do?
Windows 11 calls Aero Shake Title bar window shake. When it is enabled, shaking the active window’s title bar minimizes the other open windows. Turning the setting off stops that gesture; it does not disable Snap or change how windows are positioned. Microsoft’s accessibility guidance lists the control under Multitasking.

The change affects the minimize-other-windows gesture, not the separate Snap feature.
How to arrange two windows side by side
Use the keyboard
Select the first app, then press Windows + Left Arrow or Windows + Right Arrow to snap it to that side. If Snap Assist appears, select the other open app to fill the remaining space. Microsoft lists these and other window controls in its Windows keyboard shortcuts reference.

Where are Snap settings in Windows 11?
Open Start > Settings > System > Multitasking and expand or inspect Snap windows. Its options govern Snap behavior, including suggestions for what to snap next, layouts shown on maximize-button hover, the top-edge Snap bar, and access to snapped groups through taskbar hover, Task View, and Alt+Tab. These settings are independent of Title bar window shake. If snapping or its prompts are missing, make sure Snap windows is on and review its individual options.
Useful shortcuts beyond snapping
- Windows + Shift + Left or Right Arrow moves the active window between monitors.
- Windows + Home minimizes or restores all windows except the active one. This is a keyboard action, separate from shaking a title bar.
Microsoft’s multitasking guide also covers Task View, Alt+Tab, and virtual desktops.
