You can adjust some Samsung soundbars without their remote using the bar’s onboard buttons, the SmartThings app on supported models, or a compatible TV remote. The exact controls depend on the soundbar model and connection, so start by finding its full model number and checking the matching Samsung manual.
1. Find your soundbar’s model number
Check the label on the soundbar or its original paperwork, then use the full model number to find its Samsung user manual. Button functions, app support, and remote compatibility vary by model, so the manual is the best guide to what your unit can do. Samsung’s soundbar troubleshooting guidance also directs owners to model-specific instructions.

2. Use the soundbar’s onboard controls
Press the physical Source button to cycle through inputs until you reach the one used by your TV or playback device. Samsung’s US setup instructions give a specific Bluetooth method: press Source until the display reads BT, then continue with the Bluetooth connection process for your device. Onboard buttons are a useful fallback for basic operation and input selection, but do not assume they provide every sound adjustment. Check the manual for your model to see whether it supports controls such as volume, sound mode, or other settings on the bar itself.
3. Check whether SmartThings supports your model
For a supported Wi-Fi soundbar, SmartThings can provide phone controls for power, volume, and sound mode, and some supported combinations also expose advanced settings. Samsung’s SmartThings setup instructions describe adding a soundbar in the app. The phone must be on Wi-Fi, and a Samsung account and network setup are required. App screens and available features vary by model, software, phone, operating system, country, and network.

- Install or open SmartThings on your phone and sign in to a Samsung account.
- Connect the phone and supported soundbar to the required network.
- In SmartThings, add the soundbar by following the app’s discovery or manual-add steps.
- Open the soundbar controls to use the functions available for that model, such as power, volume, or sound mode.
SmartThings is not supported by every Samsung soundbar. Samsung’s UK guidance says support begins with 2017 soundbars and that older models may instead use the Multiroom app; check Samsung UK’s compatibility guidance for your market. As a concrete example, Samsung lists the HW-N550 as not supporting the SmartThings Mobile App while listing Samsung Audio Remote App support. Its specifications are on the HW-N550 support page. Availability of an older app should also be verified for your device and region.
Some advanced settings are model-specific
Samsung documents Advanced Sound Settings and channel-level controls in SmartThings for supported soundbar and TV combinations. Its Voice Enhance instructions describe a center-channel adjustment from −6 dB to +6 dB; that range belongs to the documented Voice Enhance feature and does not establish that every model offers the same range or controls. 4. Try the TV remote for volume
A TV remote may adjust the soundbar’s volume in a supported setup, but this depends on the TV, soundbar, connection, and remote type. Samsung’s HW-A450 guidance describes volume control with a TV’s IR remote in a specified configuration and says Bluetooth TV remotes that require pairing are not supported for that function. Check the instructions for both devices; the soundbar setup guidance explains the relevant model-specific limits.

If you need controls that the onboard buttons, phone app, or TV remote cannot provide, match a replacement remote to the soundbar’s full model number and regional variant. Samsung’s model-specific manuals and support pages establish that controls differ; they do not establish one replacement remote that works with every Samsung soundbar. Confirm compatibility before buying.
