To monetize a live stream, choose between platform-served ads and a sponsor deal you arrange directly or through a creator program. Check your account’s eligibility and the platform’s current rules, agree campaign requirements in writing, use any required branded-content control, and disclose the relationship clearly on screen and aloud. Keep the required VODs or clips and submit proof as the campaign brief requires.
Choose between platform ads and a sponsor
These are different monetization routes. Platform-served ads are managed through a platform’s monetization tools and account controls. A sponsor integration is an agreement to feature or discuss a company, product, or service; its deliverables and payment depend on the particular campaign or contract. Do not assume that enabling ads gives you a sponsor, or that a sponsor deal gives you access to platform ad controls.

These are questions to check, not terms every deal contains. Availability, requirements, and controls can change; do not rely on a fixed payout, ad rate, campaign approval, or eligibility claim unless the current platform dashboard or your written offer supports it.

Check the platform rules before adding sponsor material
YouTube
YouTube Help permits paid product placements, sponsorships, and endorsements subject to its policies and applicable law. Its guidance tells creators to select the paid-promotion box in video details. Check the current live-stream setup and details screen for the relevant control on your account.

YouTube’s ads policy does not allow creators to burn in or embed advertiser-created, advertiser-supplied video ads or other commercial breaks in their content. YouTube’s guidance describes limited exceptions for static sponsor title cards of five seconds or less and static end cards in the final 30 seconds, subject to the conditions on that page. Those card rules do not authorize inserting a supplied commercial. For ads served against content, YouTube directs interested advertisers to a Partner Manager.
Twitch
Twitch’s Branded Content Guidelines describe a Creator Dashboard disclosure tool for branded content. Use it for sponsored or promoted content, and make your own clear in-stream disclosure as well; Twitch says creators and brands remain responsible for understanding the applicable legal and disclosure obligations.
In an announcement dated August 20, 2026, Twitch said Affiliates must become Creator Sponsorship Certified to be eligible for sponsorship opportunities. Twitch also says Partners and Affiliates with a completed Creator Profile can improve their chances of opportunities and feature sponsorship highlights. Check the current Sponsorships dashboard for criteria. The Creator Profile setup guide describes the profile as a way to give brands and agencies working directly with Twitch information about your channel, audience, and sponsorship interests.

TikTok’s support guidance describes a disclosure route in LIVE settings: choose Content disclosure, enable Disclose LIVE content, then identify whether the stream promotes your own brand or third-party branded content. TikTok also describes brand-partner tagging and ad authorization. Because the support page’s current steps may change, verify the labels in the app before you go live.

Agree on the campaign before scheduling the stream
Read the brief and contract before accepting or announcing a campaign. A fee can be flat, performance-based, or a combination; the actual offer should define the payment and what counts as a completed deliverable. Clarify usage rights and exclusivity, required claims or wording, and when and how payment is made. These are deal-specific terms, not universal platform rules.
- Confirm the campaign date, minimum stream length, required sponsor moments, and delivery deadlines.
- Identify required overlays, panels, commands, links, discount codes, shoutouts, and conversion goals.
- Ask whether the VOD must remain available, which clips to submit, how to submit proof, and who approves it.
- Check whether campaign software is required and what happens to payment or eligibility if the stream ends early.
- Save the signed agreement and final brief. If their requirements differ from a generic example, follow the terms you accepted.
For example, Streamlabs’ Sponsorships guidance says campaigns can vary in assets, briefs, promotional links or codes, stream length, shoutouts, conversion goals, and delivery timelines. Its described workflow uses the Sponsorships app in Streamlabs Desktop: complete profile and payout details, review campaigns and qualifications, apply, then follow the accepted campaign’s instructions. Streamlabs says its campaigns currently must be run from Streamlabs Desktop, asks creators to submit clips after the stream, and says ending a campaign early terminates the application and makes the creator ineligible for payout. Verify the current campaign terms before relying on this example.
Set up sponsor assets and disclosures
- Write down the deliverables. Turn the accepted brief into a checklist with required moments, wording, links, overlays, stream duration, and post-stream submissions.
- Prepare assets while offline. Install and test the overlay, panel, command, or link in advance. Confirm links work and sponsor graphics remain readable without covering important stream content.
- Check product claims. Put talking points in your own natural words, but confirm factual claims with the sponsor. Do not promise results or repeat a claim you cannot support.
- Configure the platform disclosure control. Use the applicable branded-content or paid-promotion control for the service and stream format. Do not treat that control as a substitute for clear viewer-facing disclosure.
- Prepare spoken and visible wording. Use plain terms such as “advertisement,” “ad,” or “sponsored.” Place the visible notice near the endorsement and plan to say it during the stream, not only in the opening.
- Check recording and proof requirements. Confirm that VODs or clips are captured if the campaign requires them, and know where and by when to submit proof.
Disclose the sponsorship clearly during the stream
A material connection includes payment and free or discounted products or services. FTC staff guidance says the creator is responsible for disclosure: it should be hard to miss, close to the endorsement, and in simple language. Repeat it periodically during the livestream so people who join late or see only part of it receive the message. Do not assume a platform disclosure tool alone is enough.

The FTC staff publication Disclosures 101 for Social Media Influencers (November 2019) says: “If making an endorsement in a live stream, the disclosure should be repeated periodically so viewers who only see part of the stream will get the disclosure.” There is no single interval specified here; make the disclosure recurring and noticeable throughout the broadcast.
- Spoken: “This part of the stream is sponsored by [brand].”
- Visible: Show a readable “Sponsored” or “Ad” label while presenting or discussing the sponsored item.
- For your own brand: Say that you own or sell the promoted product or service; do not leave viewers to infer the relationship.
Do not describe personal experience with a product you have not tried, praise something you believe is bad just because you are paid, or make claims that require evidence the advertiser does not have. FTC guidance is U.S. guidance, not a complete guide to law worldwide. YouTube points creators to local legal resources and notes that requirements vary by jurisdiction, so check the rules where you and your audience are located.
Review an offer for fit, not just payment
Before accepting, weigh the campaign’s audience fit and credibility against its obligations. A product relevant to your viewers may make for a more natural integration, but you should be able to discuss it honestly. Compare the required production work, software, proof submission, and interruption risk with the compensation and rights requested. Streamlabs identifies the Logitech G522 LIGHTSPEED headset as an example of a featured campaign product; it is not equipment required to run ads or accept sponsorships.

Troubleshoot common sponsorship problems
The sponsor overlay or link is missing
Test the asset before going live, then check the active scene, panel, command, or destination specified by the brief. If a required item cannot be restored during the broadcast, document what happened and contact the campaign representative rather than claiming the deliverable was completed.

Repeat the spoken disclosure periodically and keep a visible notice near the endorsement. An opening-only statement may not reach people who join later.
The platform control is not visible or eligibility is unclear
Check the current creator dashboard or in-app settings for your account and region. Do not substitute another platform’s control or assume a program’s requirements are universal.

The sponsor asks for an unsupported product claim
Pause before repeating it. Ask the sponsor for substantiation or approved wording, and do not present a claim you cannot support or an endorsement that misrepresents your experience.
The stream ends before the campaign requirement is met
Review the campaign’s early-ending and payout terms. Streamlabs says an early-ended campaign terminates its application and makes the creator ineligible for payout; other offers may differ, so contact the sponsor and follow the actual agreement.
