Microsoft Teams can display a SharePoint Calendar directly, so your team doesn’t have to bounce between tabs and sites. The fastest path is usually adding the SharePoint calendar as a Teams tab on the right channel.
This guide walks you through the exact clicks, plus practical fallbacks when the calendar won’t show in Teams. You’ll also learn what permissions typically block the integration and how to troubleshoot it.

Why add a SharePoint calendar to Teams?
When your calendar lives in SharePoint, putting it into Teams reduces friction: updates appear where conversations happen. It’s also easier to standardize who sees what, since tab access follows SharePoint site and list permissions.

Prerequisites and what you need before you start
- Access to the SharePoint site that contains the calendar list (you must be at least able to view it).
- The calendar is a real SharePoint Calendar list, not just a static page.
- You’re signed into Teams with the same Microsoft 365 tenant/account that has access to SharePoint.
- You have permission to add tabs in the Teams channel (typically a team owner or member with tab permissions).
If you’re a Teams admin, also verify that your org doesn’t block SharePoint tab functionality via app/policy controls.
Method 1: Add the SharePoint calendar as a Teams tab (recommended)
This is the most “native” option: it embeds the SharePoint calendar view inside Teams and keeps it tied to SharePoint permissions.
Step 1: Confirm the SharePoint calendar is a Calendar list
In your SharePoint site, open the calendar. If you see event entries and a calendar-style view, you’re likely in the right place. You can also confirm by checking the list name in the SharePoint UI.

Step 2: Add the tab in Teams
- Open Microsoft Teams.
- Go to the Team and the Channel where you want the calendar.
- At the top of the channel, click + to add a new tab.
- Select SharePoint (sometimes shown as SharePoint or SharePoint site).
- Choose the SharePoint site that contains your calendar.
- Pick the Calendar you want to embed.
- Set the Name of the tab (for example, Department Calendar).
- Click Save.
Step 3: Choose the right view and permissions
Depending on your SharePoint calendar, Teams may embed a default calendar view. Use SharePoint to adjust the view settings if you need a specific filter (like a particular calendar group).
Make sure the SharePoint site/list permissions match the audience you expect in Teams—tab access won’t magically expand what SharePoint allows.
Step 4: Test the integration
- Ask one user with access to open the new Teams tab.
- Create or edit a test event in SharePoint (if you have rights).
- Refresh Teams (browser refresh or reloading the tab) and confirm the event appears.
If updates take longer than expected, wait a few minutes—calendar events can be subject to indexing and sync delays.

When this helps
- You added a SharePoint tab previously, but it points to the wrong site.
- The calendar picker shows a site, but not the list you need.
- You need to replace an existing tab without deleting the whole channel layout.
Steps
- In Teams, open the target Team and Channel.
- Find the existing tab (or the placeholder) related to SharePoint.
- Click the tab’s More options (often …).
- Select Manage tab (or similar).
- Update the selected SharePoint site and Calendar list.
- Click Save.
Method 3: Use a share link (fallback) when tab selection can’t find the calendar
If Teams can’t locate the calendar in the picker, a practical fallback is embedding the SharePoint page/view via a link-style approach. This won’t be as tight as a tab, but it restores access quickly.
Option A: SharePoint page link
- Open the calendar in SharePoint.
- Copy the URL from your browser address bar.
- In Teams, click + (add a tab).
- Choose an app/tab type that supports web content (commonly a Website or URL tab, depending on your tenant policies).
- Paste the SharePoint URL.
- Name the tab and click Save.
If your organization restricts URL tabs, you’ll need an admin to enable the relevant tab type.
Option B: Calendar view link
Instead of linking to the generic calendar landing page, use a direct calendar view URL (when SharePoint provides one for a specific view/filter). This reduces the clicks required for users to see the correct calendar.
Always confirm the link opens with the expected permissions—some SharePoint URLs require authentication, and users will be prompted to sign in.
Method 4: Surface a Teams channel calendar instead of SharePoint (alternative)
If your main goal is “people see channel events in Teams,” the Teams channel calendar can be simpler than embedding SharePoint. It’s not a SharePoint calendar mirror, though—entries are managed in Teams.
Channel calendar vs SharePoint calendar
| Feature | SharePoint Calendar Tab | Teams Channel Calendar |
|---|---|---|
| Source of truth | SharePoint list | Teams channel |
| Permissions | Follow SharePoint site/list | Follow Teams channel access |
| Best for | Organization-wide shared scheduling | Channel-specific announcements and events |
How to create a channel calendar
- Open the target Teams channel.
- Click + at the top to add a new tab.
- Search for Channel calendar (wording can vary).
- Select it, confirm creation, then set the name.
If you don’t see “Channel calendar” in your tenant, it may be controlled by your admin or rollout status.
Permissions and admin requirements (the usual blockers)
Most failures come down to permissions or mismatched tenancy. Teams can only embed what the signed-in user can access in SharePoint.

Check SharePoint permissions
- Confirm the SharePoint site members group grants access.
- Confirm the calendar list itself isn’t restricted differently than the site.
- If the calendar is in a specific folder or has unique permissions, match those settings to your intended audience.
Check Teams permissions
- Ensure you’re in the correct Team and Channel.
- Confirm you can add tabs (owners typically can; members may depend on policy).
- If you can view the team but can’t add the tab, ask a team owner to create it.
Consider Teams app policies
If your tenant restricts which tabs/apps are available, the SharePoint tab picker may be limited. In managed environments, admins can tighten app access via Teams policies and app permission settings.

Common issues and troubleshooting
The calendar doesn’t appear in the tab picker
Teams often won’t show the calendar unless your account can access it. Confirm you can open the calendar in SharePoint directly.
- Try removing and re-adding the tab.
- Double-check you selected the correct SharePoint site.
- Search SharePoint for the exact calendar name and confirm it’s a Calendar list.
The tab loads, but events don’t match
Two calendars can look similar but be different lists (for example, an “Events” list vs a true Calendar list). Verify the tab is pointing to the expected SharePoint list.
- Open the SharePoint calendar and check the list name.
- Create a single test event and confirm it appears in both SharePoint and Teams.
- Refresh Teams and wait a few minutes for updates to render.
It shows an error like Access denied or Sign in again
This usually means the embedded experience can’t complete authentication or you lack permissions. Sign out/in and retry, then validate SharePoint access.
- Confirm your account is the same one you use for SharePoint.
- Check browser third-party cookie settings if you’re using a browser-based Teams client.
- Try in a different client (Teams desktop vs web) to isolate UI/auth problems.
Channel vs private team placement is wrong
A Teams tab on a private team or specific channel will only be visible to members who have access. If your audience spans groups, pick the broadest team/channel that aligns with SharePoint permissions.
- Create the tab in the correct channel.
- Re-check SharePoint permissions so the same users can view the calendar list.
The calendar only loads for some users
That’s almost always permission mismatch. Teams tab rendering uses SharePoint authorization, not Teams channel membership alone.
- Compare the effective access of users in SharePoint (site + list).
- If unique permissions exist at the list or item level, fix them to match your intended audience.
Best practices for a clean Teams experience
Use clear naming and keep permissions aligned
Rename the tab to match the calendar purpose (for example, Company Training Calendar). Then keep SharePoint permissions aligned with who should see which events.

If you need multiple audiences, create separate calendars (or separate lists/views) rather than relying on fragile filters.

Pin the tab and standardize views
Once the tab is correct, make it easy to find. For channel workflows, keep the calendar tab near the start of the tab row so people check it naturally.
If you need a specific view (like “Upcoming events”), use SharePoint view settings so Teams shows the same lens every time.
Keep the SharePoint calendar healthy
- Keep event titles consistent so users can scan quickly.
- Use reliable date/time fields and avoid custom formats.
- Don’t overload with unrelated events—teams tabs should stay focused.
FAQ
Can I add a SharePoint calendar to Teams for a private channel?
Yes, if the tab permissions and SharePoint permissions allow the same users to view the calendar. Private channel members who don’t have SharePoint access will typically see errors or blank content.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat if my SharePoint calendar is in a different site collection?
You generally need to select the correct SharePoint site in the Teams tab picker. If the calendar is in another site collection, confirm users can access that other site too.
Does this sync automatically when events change in SharePoint?
Updates are reflected through SharePoint’s data refresh and rendering pipeline. After changes, refresh the tab in Teams and allow a few minutes if updates don’t appear instantly.
Why can I add the tab but other users can’t see it?
The tab can be created while other users still lack SharePoint list permissions. Ensure the SharePoint calendar list has the correct access for everyone who should use it in Teams.
Can I embed multiple SharePoint calendars into one Teams tab?
Usually you embed one calendar list per tab. If you need multiple calendars, add separate tabs (or use SharePoint views that consolidate items into a single display, depending on how your calendar is configured).

To add a SharePoint calendar to Teams quickly, create a tab inside the correct Team channel and select the SharePoint calendar list during tab setup. This approach keeps a clean permission model because Teams reflects SharePoint access.
If the calendar doesn’t show up, verify the calendar is a Calendar list, confirm you can open it directly in SharePoint, and check site/list permissions. When embedding fails due to tenant constraints, use a SharePoint page link as a reliable fallback.
