If you can’t see Print when you right-click a file in Windows 11, first select Show more options. That opens the legacy context menu, where older app commands and less-used Shell verbs may appear. If you need to change the menu for a particular file type, the registry entry depends on that type’s associated ProgID and print handler—there is no safe universal Print command to apply to every file.
Check the legacy context menu first

Right-click the file you want to print.

Select Show more options. You can also press Shift+F10 or the keyboard menu key to open the legacy menu.

Microsoft’s Windows Blog explains that the Windows 11 menu keeps less-used Shell verbs and older app commands in the legacy menu, and says, “No commands have been removed entirely.” Microsoft’s explanation of the Windows 11 context menu describes access through Show more options and the keyboard shortcuts.

When a registry change is relevant
Use the registry only if you want to add or remove Print for a specific file type and the legacy menu does not meet your need. Windows associates each file extension with a file-type identifier called a ProgID. The Shell verbs for that type are registered under the ProgID, and each verb has its own command subkey. Microsoft lists print as a canonical Shell verb meaning to print the file.
The general structure is:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT<ProgID>ShellprintcommandThis is a registry concept, not a copy-and-paste fix. The correct ProgID and application command vary with the file association and installed app. Microsoft’s example uses an illustrative ProgID and app-specific command; its %1 represents the filename. Do not use an example command unless it is actually correct for the application and file type on your PC. See Microsoft’s documentation on extending shortcut menus for the registration model.

Add Print for one file type

Identify the association. Determine the target extension’s current ProgID and which installed application handles printing for that file type. Do not assume the extension name itself is the ProgID.

Back up the relevant registration. In Registry Editor, export the precise key you intend to change before editing it.

Register the verb under the right ProgID. Create or update
Shellprintcommandbeneath that ProgID, and set the command key’s default string to the application-specific print command for the file type. The command must correctly pass the target filename to the app. -
Check the result. Right-click a file of that type and inspect its legacy context menu. If the change does not appear, restarting File Explorer or signing out and back in is a practical troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed requirement for every verb edit.

Change one file type at a time. A wrong command can fail to print or invoke an unintended application; a change under a different ProgID will not necessarily affect the file type you meant to modify.
Remove Print for one file type

Identify the ProgID or Shell object whose registration supplies the Print verb for the menu you want to change.

Export the exact key as a backup.

Remove or suppress only that Print registration, then check the relevant file type’s legacy context menu.
Do not delete a similarly named registration simply because it contains a Print command. Shell verb registration scope depends on the file type or predefined Shell object, so changing a different scope may affect a different menu. Microsoft explains the different registration locations in its Shell extension handler registration documentation.
If Print disappears only when selecting several files
Windows may shorten the menu for multiple selections. Microsoft documents that Open, Print, and Edit are hidden when more than 15 files are selected by design. The support article specifies Windows 10, so treat this as a diagnostic clue—not a confirmed Windows 11 fix. Microsoft’s multiple-selection support article describes the behavior and its scope.
