What Open Graph tags do in Wix
Open Graph fields provide information that a social network or messaging service may use when someone shares a page link: a title (og:title), description (og:description), and image (og:image). Wix presents these options as Social share settings in its SEO controls. A platform can use its own criteria to choose what appears, so setting these fields does not guarantee an identical preview everywhere. Wix explains that each social channel chooses a title, description, and image using its own criteria.

Set social-share tags for a Wix page type
- Open your Wix site’s dashboard.
- Select SEO & GEO.
- Scroll to Tools and settings, then open SEO Settings.
- Choose the page type you want to configure. Wix displays page types that apply to features installed on the site; for example, product settings appear for sites using Wix Stores.
- Select Edit beside Basics & social share.
- Under Social share, set the title, description, and image. You can enter static values or use variables to create a rule for that page type. For an image, provide its URL; Wix also provides a way to copy a URL from Site Files.
- Save the settings.
Wix’s instructions for individual-page SEO edits say to publish the changes. If you edit social-share settings on a specific page rather than a page-type rule, publish the site after saving so the change is live. See Wix’s page SEO settings instructions for the individual-page route.

Choose between a reusable rule and page-specific values
Use a page-type rule when pages can share a consistent format; variables can fill in page-specific details while retaining the same pattern. Use individual-page settings when a page needs a distinct title, description, or image. This balances consistency with specificity, and Wix supports both approaches. The available page types depend on the site’s installed features. Wix documents page-level SEO settings alongside its social-share settings.

Set Open Graph tags for a Wix Stores product
- In the Wix dashboard, open Products.
- Select the product.
- Choose Edit SEO Settings.
- Open Social share to add a social-share image or edit the default
og:titleandog:description.
This product-specific route is separate from configuring general page-type rules. Wix’s product SEO instructions cover those controls.
Check Wix’s defaults and write suitable values
Wix adds SEO and social-share metadata to pages by default. Its default-settings documentation says og:title uses the title tag, og:description uses the meta description, and og:url uses the page URL. Do not assume an image is set automatically: the og:image default can depend on page type and image configuration, and Wix says there is no site-level image by default unless one has been added. Check the image field directly. Wix describes its default SEO settings here.

- Faux fur-lined interior and padded zipper binding prevent scratches while keeping your device secure with a top-loading zippered enclosure and two sliders
- Designed for on-the-go use with a slim profile that easily slides into backpacks, totes, and carry-on bags
- Wix recommends keeping a social title below 80 characters and a description below 300 characters to reduce the chance of truncation. These are Wix recommendations, not guaranteed limits across social platforms. Wix’s social-share guidance provides the recommendations.
- Write the title and description for the content of the page being shared, rather than relying on a site-wide value that may not describe every page.
- Give the image its own attention; an otherwise complete title and description do not establish that an image is configured.
Verify a preview and troubleshoot mismatches
After publishing, inspect the shared link with the current preview or debugging tool offered by the target social platform. Wix does not promise that every platform will display the fields exactly as entered, and its cited guidance does not specify a universal refresh time or cache-clearing procedure.
- The preview has the wrong title or description: Return to the relevant page type’s SEO Settings → Basics & social share → Social share controls, or the individual page’s SEO settings, and verify the values for that specific content.
- The preview has no image or the wrong image: Check whether an
og:imageis configured for that page type or product, and confirm the chosen image URL. Wix’s defaults vary by page type and may not include a site-level image. - The new values are not visible after editing a page: Confirm that you published the individual-page changes. Then inspect the link with the target platform’s current preview tool; the documentation does not establish how quickly an existing preview updates.
- The settings page does not show the content type you need: Wix only shows page types applicable to installed site features. For a store item, use the product’s Edit SEO Settings route.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot of the published page to check its visual appearance, ScreenshotNeo can return an image from one API request. It is separate from configuring or validating Open Graph metadata, and it does not replace a social platform’s preview debugger.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Wix have an India-specific Open Graph setting?
The cited Wix documentation describes a general dashboard workflow, not a separate India-specific configuration.
Will every social network show exactly the title, description, and image I set?
No. Social channels choose preview content using their own criteria, so Wix cannot guarantee an identical display across platforms.
