Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFor a LINE bot that answers follow-up questions about YouTube videos, agentic video processing can help it focus on the moments relevant to a question rather than sampling frames at a fixed rate. On Vertex AI, Google currently documents agentic video as a v1beta1 feature that is not enabled by default: explicitly configure agentic media processing and use a supported model. The other two checks below—thinking level and SDK version—come from Evan Lin’s account of his own implementation, not universal Google requirements.
What agentic video changes
Gemini video input does not always mean agentic processing. In static mode, Gemini samples frames at a fixed rate—1 frame per second by default in Google’s guide. Agentic mode dynamically navigates the video and loads content it judges relevant to the prompt. That distinction matters when a user asks about a particular moment rather than requesting broad coverage.

Google’s current Gemini API video guide recommends agentic processing for long videos or questions focused on specific moments. Static processing can be a better fit when latency matters for a short clip—the guide gives under five minutes as an example—or when frame-level coverage across the full video is important.

Google’s September 1, 2026 announcement reported benchmark outcomes of up to 88% fewer tokens, up to 66% lower analysis costs, and up to 7% higher accuracy. These are maximum reported results, not guaranteed savings or accuracy gains for a particular bot or request. The announcement says agentic video uses standard Gemini API token pricing, with no additional feature fee.

Which Gemini API surface are you using?
Do not carry a setting or behavior from one Gemini interface to another without checking its documentation. The Gemini Developer API guide uses processing: "agentic". The Vertex AI guide describes a separate request configuration and says agentic video understanding is available only through v1beta1; it is static or disabled by default unless explicitly enabled. These are related capabilities, but their configuration and behavior should not be assumed interchangeable.

| Vertex AI | Agentic video is documented for v1beta1 and must be explicitly enabled, per Google’s Vertex AI guide |

Model availability is time-sensitive. The current Gemini API guide lists Gemini 3.8 Flash, 3.7 Flash, 3.6 Flash, and 3.5 Flash Lite for agentic video. Google’s September 1, 2026 launch announcement named Gemini 3.7 Flash, 3.6 Flash, and 3.5 Flash-Lite. Check the current guide before choosing a model; the launch list and current documentation do not match exactly.

Four setup checks for Vertex AI
Lin describes four conditions he checked in his Vertex AI implementation. Only the API-version and explicit-processing points are confirmed as platform requirements in Google’s current Vertex guide. Thinking level and SDK behavior below are his implementation observations, not universal prerequisites.
Recommended Free Tools
- Use the documented API version. For Vertex AI agentic video, Google’s guide says to use
v1beta1. Confirm that the request is actually sent through that version rather than assuming a client default. - Set agentic media processing explicitly. The Vertex guide says the feature is static or disabled by default. Include the documented agentic media-processing setting in the request and inspect the effective request configuration.
- Choose a currently supported model. Check the supported-model list for the API surface and region or availability constraints relevant to your deployment. Do not infer Vertex model support from the Gemini Developer API list.
- Set a thinking level if your implementation depends on it. Lin reports that an unset thinking level affected his results. The Vertex documentation example includes a thinking-level field, but the reviewed documentation does not establish that a particular setting is universally required for agentic video.
Lin also reports that the media_processing field was added in google-genai 2.20.0 and that an older SDK silently discarded the setting in his tests. Treat that as a version-specific observation from his implementation, not a general guarantee about SDK behavior. Check the version and request serialization in your own stack. Lin’s warning captures the failure mode he encountered: “if these four things are wrong, the program still runs, the answer still comes out, but the cost silently changes.”

How to fit video Q&A into a LINE bot
Lin’s reported flow adds a question-and-answer step to a bot that already summarizes URLs and YouTube links. A user pastes a YouTube URL, receives the existing summary and social copy, then sees an “Ask about this video” action. They can ask, for example, “Did he mention pricing?” and get an answer with timestamps. A new URL exits the video-question flow.
A clean implementation separates video requests, per-user video state, and usage metering. The state needs to associate the user’s follow-up with the video in question; it does not have to retain the video content itself. Lin used that association after encountering unexpected multi-turn behavior in his Vertex implementation.

- Receive and validate the webhook. Configure the LINE Official Account webhook to reach your server. LINE sends an HTTP POST when a user messages or adds the account. Verify the signature before processing event objects; LINE warns that other sources can send malicious POST requests.
- Handle the event asynchronously. LINE recommends asynchronous event processing so a long video request does not block later webhook requests. Acknowledge and queue work according to your server design, then send the eventual response through the appropriate Messaging API endpoint.
- Identify the video and store the association. When the user submits a YouTube link, run the existing summary flow and associate the resulting video with that user’s conversation state. Keep this state scoped and expire or replace it when the user submits a different URL.
- Route follow-up questions to the selected video. Use the stored association to call the chosen Gemini API surface with the question and video. Ask for timestamps in the answer when they help the user locate the relevant moment.
- Reply using LINE’s messaging primitives. The LINE Messaging API documents webhook configuration, message IDs and retrieval of submitted content, channel access tokens, and reply or push endpoints. Choose the response endpoint that matches your event and delivery design.
See LINE’s official webhook guide and Messaging API reference for the platform-specific request and response details. LINE’s warning is direct: “Be sure to verify the signature before processing webhook event objects.”

Plan for context behavior, not assumptions
Lin reports that his Vertex AI follow-up calls did not preserve agentic video context as he expected: responses lacked tool-call and tool-response parts he wanted, and repeated calls reprocessed the video. He changed his design so each follow-up was an independent call, retaining only the association between the user and video.

This is an implementation report, not evidence that Vertex AI cannot preserve video context. Google’s Gemini API guide explains how video context can persist across turns and how stateless interactions require carrying relevant processing steps forward. The Vertex guide also includes multi-turn video context guidance. Test the exact combination you deploy—API surface, model, and SDK version—and inspect returned content before building a conversation strategy around it.
Monitor time, usage, and unexpected changes
Agentic processing can take longer for long videos and complex prompts. Google recommends streaming or background execution for these cases, which fits naturally with LINE’s asynchronous webhook model. Add operational monitoring for request duration, errors, selected processing mode, model, and token use so you can distinguish a slow response from a configuration that is not taking effect.
Lin reports variable thinking-token use and cost spikes in his own experiments, and says he added warning logs. His sample averages and outliers describe specific historical tests, not current rates or a forecast for another workload; actual pricing and model behavior can change. Meter usage in your own deployment and set alerts based on your service’s budget and observed traffic rather than applying his test figures as a price estimate.
