How to Add External Audio to a Larix Broadcaster YouTube Stream on Android

Use Larix Broadcaster’s experimental USB OTG support to send compatible external audio into a YouTube stream on Android, with a careful test-first setup.

If you mean using an external microphone, mixer, or USB audio source, Larix Broadcaster for Android documents an experimental USB OTG route. Enable it under Advanced settings → USB Camera, restart the app, connect a compatible device, and test the result in YouTube’s preview before going live. If you mean a separate audio track viewers can choose during playback, the official Larix and YouTube materials reviewed do not document that capability.

What “external audio track” means here

This setup sends audio from an external source into the stream’s program audio. It does not establish separate audio tracks that viewers can switch between. Softvelum says compatible UVC OTG USB devices can be used as video and audio sources, but identifies the feature as experimental. See Softvelum’s Android USB OTG instructions.

Larix Broadcaster for Android supports RTMP publishing and AAC audio. Softvelum lists Android 7.0 and up as the minimum operating-system requirement; device and feature behavior can still vary by phone, Android version, Larix version, and connected USB hardware. See Softvelum’s Larix for Android overview.

Check your phone and audio hardware first

Before buying an interface or setting up an event, verify the complete connection chain for your exact handset and USB device. Android USB host support alone does not guarantee that a particular interface’s audio will work in Larix.

USB-C & USB-A Lavalier Microphone for Smartphones & Computers, 6.6 ft
  • USB-C & USB-A COMPATIBILITY - This lavalier microphone for type c devices is compatible with iPhone 15/16/17 Series, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, Samsung Galaxy S24/23, and other smartphones or tablets with a USB C jack. • CLEAR SOUND QUALITY - Built with a premium sound card (24-bit / 96kHz), this omnidirectional condenser microphone captures your voice with clarity and accuracy, while reducing unwanted background noise — ideal for interviewing, online conferencing, podcasting, vlogging, live streaming.
  • PLUG & PLAY LAPEL MIC - This USB C lavalier microphone with USB-A connection is play-and-play, no extra cables or set-up. Just plug it into your device with USB-C or USB-A, it'll start working instantly. Without drivers and battery needed, it is friendly-design and easy to use.
  • FLEXIBLE CLIP & 6.6FT CABLE - Featuring a sturdy metal clip, this USB-C lapel microphone can be securely attached to your clothing for optimal placement or discreet use. The 6.6FT / 2M soft silicone cable provides ample length and flexibility for comfortable movement during recording.
  • ALL-IN-ONE PACKAGE & SUPPORT- Includes a USB-C microphone with clip and windscreen, cable tie, USB-C to USB-A adapter, and a premium storage pouch. Comes with 1-year protection and 24-hour customer support.
  • Confirm the phone supports USB host/OTG and that the USB device is compatible with Android audio capture.
  • If the phone has USB-C and the device uses another connector, use an appropriate OTG adapter. An adapter by itself does not make an incompatible audio device work.
  • Check whether the source is a microphone-level or line-level output and whether the device provides the inputs you need.
  • Check power needs, especially if the USB audio device must be powered separately or draws more power than the phone can supply.
  • If you need more than one simultaneous input, confirm the interface and its Android routing support those inputs; the general Larix OTG documentation does not establish a universal multi-input selector.

Enable the USB input in Larix

  1. Install and open Larix Broadcaster on the Android phone. The documented minimum is Android 7.0 and up.
  2. Open Advanced settings → USB Camera and enable the feature.
  3. Restart Larix after enabling USB Camera.
  4. Connect the compatible USB OTG audio/video device. Softvelum notes that it may be necessary to tap the camera ON/OFF control to initialize the USB camera.

The menu and initialization behavior are the documented route, not a promise that every device will expose the same controls or work correctly. Softvelum describes USB OTG support as experimental, and warns that some phone/device combinations may not work properly.

Connect Larix to YouTube Live

  1. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the stream you intend to use.
  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown there. Use the RTMPS URL when Larix supports it and YouTube provides it for your stream. YouTube’s instructions are at Set up your encoder for live streaming and Stream using an encoder.
  3. In Larix, add or edit the connection using the URL and key from Live Control Room. Do not assume a fixed ingest endpoint; use the values YouTube supplies.
  4. Keep the stream key private. Anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel.

RTMPS adds TLS encryption to the connection. YouTube recommends using its RTMPS ingest option when supported; follow the URL and key shown for the stream rather than substituting an endpoint from another setup.

Test the audio before the event

  1. Start with an unlisted or private test stream if that suits your channel and event.
  2. Check that the external source is connected and active in Larix. If the sound is silent, verify the hardware path before changing unrelated YouTube settings.
  3. Open the YouTube Live Control Room preview and confirm that audio is arriving there.
  4. Listen for clipping, silence, hum, and missing or imbalanced left/right audio. Adjust the source or interface gain if needed, then test again.
  5. Only rely on the setup for the event after the complete phone, interface, cable, Larix, and YouTube path has passed a test.

YouTube’s standard live-ingestion guidance lists AAC or MP3 audio and recommends 128 Kbps for stereo. Larix documents AAC audio encoding on Android outside WebRTC. The YouTube preview is the practical final check that the encoder output is arriving cleanly. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.

Troubleshoot common failures

Symptom Likely cause What to try
Larix does not detect or initialize the USB device OTG/host support, adapter, permissions, or device compatibility issue Re-seat the adapter and device, verify USB host support and Android permissions, restart Larix after enabling USB Camera, and try toggling the camera ON/OFF to initialize it.
Video works but there is no external audio The connected device may not expose compatible Android audio capture, or the source/input path may be inactive Check the interface input, source connection, gain, and compatibility for the exact handset and device. Test the cable and source chain outside the event if possible.
Audio is present in Larix but absent in YouTube preview The encoder connection or outgoing audio may not be reaching the selected YouTube stream Confirm Larix is publishing to the URL and key shown in the correct Live Control Room session, then check the preview again.
Audio clips, hums, or sounds uneven between channels Source gain, cabling, or left/right routing may be unsuitable Inspect the mixer/interface output and cable path, lower excessive input gain, and run another private or unlisted test.
You cannot find a menu matching these steps Controls can vary with Larix version, Android version, handset, and connected device Check the installed version’s settings and Softvelum’s current USB OTG instructions; do not assume a universal input-selector menu.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep uploaded video running on YouTube 24/7 rather than broadcast a live microphone or mixer, StreamNeo is a different workflow: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera or external audio input.
