Choose what to capture: a URL or your own HTML
Use url when you want HTML/CSS to Image to capture a public webpage. Use html when you are sending the markup to render yourself. The request requires one of these inputs; css is optional. The API guide documents both JSON and form-data requests, while the URL-to-image guide covers webpage capture.

For a URL, put your overrides in the request’s css property. For submitted HTML, use css for styling supplied markup. Example request body:

Send a request with Basic Auth
Get the API ID and API key from your account dashboard. The API ID is the Basic Auth username and the API key is the password. Keep both on a trusted server or in environment variables rather than exposing them in browser-side code. HTML/CSS to Image warns that an exposed API key can be used for operations its permissions allow. See its API instructions and example code.

Wait for JavaScript-driven pages to finish rendering
If the target page builds or changes its content with JavaScript, an immediate capture may occur before the desired state appears. The FAQ documents ms_delay as a way to wait, and also describes render_when_ready with a page readiness callback: call ScreenshotReady() when the page is ready for capture. Choose a fixed delay for predictable, short waits; use the readiness mechanism when your page can signal completion more accurately. Refer to the FAQ and API guide for current parameter details.

The documented URL screenshot controls include:
full_screento capture the whole webpage.selectorto crop around a matching CSS selector.widthandheightto set capture dimensions.device_scaleto control device scale.media_typeto select screen or print CSS.
These are capture controls, distinct from the css string that applies overrides. Consult the URL-to-image guide and API guide for parameter syntax and current output-size or plan limits; the documented options do not establish a limit that applies to every account.

Make the background transparent
For a transparent PNG, the FAQ identifies transparent_background: true as the simplest option. It also says to pass background-related CSS through the request’s css parameter rather than relying only on a <style> tag inside submitted HTML. See the FAQ for the service’s current guidance.
Common problems and fixes
- Your styles do not appear: Confirm the request includes a
cssstring. For URL capture, send it with theurl; for submitted markup, check that the CSS is sent as the documented parameter. - The screenshot misses content added by JavaScript: Add
ms_delayor configurerender_when_readyand callScreenshotReady()when the page is ready, following the FAQ. - You get a cropped component instead of the desired page: Check whether
selectoris set. It selects the capture region; it is not the CSS override field. For a whole-page URL capture, usefull_screenas documented in the API guide. - The background is not transparent: Use
transparent_background: truefor the PNG option, and pass relevant CSS viacss, not only in a style tag in submitted HTML, per the FAQ. - The request is rejected or the output dimensions are unexpected: Verify Basic Auth credentials, that the request supplies either
urlorhtml, and that the selected dimensions and options are allowed for your account. Current limits and plan requirements should be checked in the official API documentation.
