How to Add Custom Code and Integrations in AI Builder Manual Mode

Use global Custom code for site-wide integrations or an Embed code element for a specific page location. Follow the provider’s placement instructions and update the website to publish changes.

In AI Builder manual mode, add site-wide integrations under More (⋯) → Integrations → Custom code, or place code at a particular point on one page with an Embed code element. Use the integration provider’s instructions to decide whether its snippet belongs in the head, body, or a specific page location, then update the website to publish the change.

Choose the right place for the code

There are two insertion routes, and the provider’s installation instructions determine which one to use. A tracking, verification, or other site-wide snippet generally belongs in the global custom-code settings. Code intended to display content at a particular point on a page belongs in an Embed code element.

Method Scope and placement Use it when
More (⋯) → Integrations → Custom code Site-level code. The builder places certain code types in the head and others at the end of the body by default. The provider calls for global code, such as a site-wide tracking or verification snippet.
Add elements → Embed code A code element placed at a chosen position on a particular page. The integration should appear as page content or in a specific location.

The provider’s documentation should say where its code needs to load.

Add a site-wide snippet

  1. Copy the snippet from the integration provider and check its instructions for the required placement.

  2. In the builder, open More (⋯) → Integrations → Custom code.

  3. Paste the code in the appropriate field. <meta>, <link>, and <style> snippets go in the <head>. <script>, <noscript>, and <iframe> snippets go at the end of the <body> by default. If a script specifically needs to load in the head, add data-render-head to it.

  4. To add more than one snippet, place them one after another. Do not put one snippet inside another.

  5. Save the code and update the website. Updating pushes the change to the published site.

Follow the integration provider’s directions if they specify a different placement.

Place code at a particular spot on a page

  1. Open Add elements in the editor.

  2. Drag an Embed code element to the desired position on the page.

  3. Select the element, enter the snippet, and choose Embed code.

  4. Update the website to publish the change.

Embed elements can be used for items such as audio, PDFs, reviews, animations, share buttons, tables, calendars, countdown timers, and pop-ups. The provider’s current instructions still determine what code to enter and whether this element is appropriate.

Confirm the integration is live

Code changes may not show or behave as expected in the editor. Check the preview or published website after updating it. For a site-wide snippet, open the live page in a browser, use Inspect, and search the page source for a distinctive word from the snippet. Finding the text confirms it is present in the source; it does not by itself prove that the third-party service is operating correctly.

Troubleshoot a missing widget or broken page

The widget does not appear

An embed URL does not load

Use an HTTPS URL and remove spaces from it. Browsers may block insecure HTTP links.

The builder reports “Error: embed code is too large”

Check whether the snippet contains an image encoded inline as data:image…. This is a common cause; use an image URL instead.

The site breaks after adding custom code

Remove all snippets from Integrations → Custom code, update the website, then add the snippets back one at a time, updating and checking the site as you go. This isolates which snippet causes the problem.

Examples of third-party integrations

Examples include Calendly for scheduling, Elfsight for widgets, Involve.me for quizzes and forms, Jotform for contact forms, Lordicon for animations, Powr.io for comment boxes and social feeds, SoundCloud for audio, and Tawk.to for live chat. Built-in integration options also include Google Analytics and custom code for verification services such as Google Search Console, Facebook, and AdSense. These examples do not guarantee that a service’s current installation method or availability is unchanged; check the provider’s current documentation before adding its code.
