To make an AI-generated browser game playable, connect controls to the game’s existing update loop, change the score only when a defined gameplay event occurs, and trigger sound from those same events. Start by identifying the game’s engine and structure; don’t assume the generated project uses a particular tool or framework.
Inspect the generated game before editing
Run the game, then locate its HTML and JavaScript entry points. Find how it initializes the engine, creates the player, updates and renders the game, handles collisions, and displays any existing score or audio. Preserve the project’s working structure and dependencies rather than rebuilding it around a new template.

If it uses Phaser, follow the scene structure and documentation for the installed major version. Phaser supports browser games written in JavaScript or TypeScript and provides versioned API documentation: Phaser documentation. A small game built directly with Canvas can often stay in plain JavaScript; the choice depends on the existing code and the features you need.
How do I add keyboard controls to my browser game?
Phaser: read keys in the scene update loop
In a Phaser scene, create key objects once during setup, then read their state in update(). For arrow keys, use this.input.keyboard.createCursorKeys(). For WASD, use this.input.keyboard.addKeys("W,A,S,D"). In the update loop, check each key’s isDown state and use it to change the player’s velocity or position. Phaser documents keyboard and pointer input in its input guide.

- With broad game support, the Logitech Gamepad F310 works with old standbys to today's biggest titles, so it's easy to set up and use with your favorite games.
- Profiler software allows the gamepad to be programmed to perform keyboard and mouse commands for games without gamepad support.* * Requires software installation.
- A familiar control layout that doesn't require a learning curve to be able to use, with all the same buttons as on an Xbox 360.
- The unique floating D-pad rests on four switches-instead of a single pivot point-making it responsive to quick changes in direction.
- The six-foot cord lets you lean back and play a comfortable distance from your PC monitor.
Keep continuous movement in the update loop. Use key-down events for one-time actions such as starting or pausing, so those actions don’t repeat on every frame a key remains held. If opposite directions can be pressed together, decide whether they cancel each other or whether one should take priority.
Plain JavaScript Canvas: store input state
For a Canvas game without an engine, attach keyboard listeners and record which keys are currently pressed in a small input-state object. Have the game’s existing animation or update loop read that object and move the player. This separates browser events from game logic and follows the same basic pattern as Phaser: input changes state, and the loop applies it.

Mouse and touch: make essential actions reachable
Phaser uses a unified pointer model for mouse and touch. For a button or other game object, call setInteractive() before listening for an event such as pointerdown. For continuous pointer movement, read the active pointer’s position or state in the update loop. In a Canvas game, use pointer events and keep the resulting state available to the game loop.

How do I add a score counter?
First decide what earns points, whether the event can happen more than once, and when the score resets. Then update the score in the relevant gameplay-event handler—such as a collision or collectible pickup—and update the visible score text there. Don’t increment the score in the render or frame-update loop: that would award points based on time rather than the intended game event.
Overlapping objects can sometimes trigger repeated collision handling. If a collectible should score only once, remove it or disable its collision after collection, or otherwise guard the handler against repeat awards. Test a valid scoring event and a nearby event that should not award points. MDN’s Phaser Breakout tutorial treats score tracking and winning as distinct game mechanics.

Add sound effects that follow game events
Load audio before using it, then trigger short effects from the same events that change game state: for example, collecting an item, taking a hit, scoring, winning, or losing. Phaser’s Sound Manager uses Web Audio when supported and falls back to the HTML Audio Tag; see the Phaser audio guide.
Most browsers require a player click or tap before game audio can play. Make the initial start interaction unlock or begin audio, and handle the case where playback is not yet available. Add a mute or sound toggle, and stop unwanted looping audio when the player restarts or changes scenes. Keep visual feedback and the score display clear when sound is muted.

Organize the work around the game loop
In Phaser, a useful division of work is preload for assets, create for the world and input bindings, and update for reading input and updating game state. Phaser Studio tutorial creator Scott Westover summarizes the teaching approach this way: “if you understand preload, create, and update, you already understand the core of Phaser.” This is a learning summary, not a substitute for the API documentation for your installed version.
For a plain JavaScript game, use the equivalent division: load assets before they’re needed, initialize the game and input state, and let the existing update loop process input and gameplay. MDN provides both pure JavaScript and Phaser versions of its Breakout tutorial, illustrating how the mechanics can be implemented with or without a framework.
Test the complete play loop
- Keyboard: Try every intended key, simultaneous directions, and whether the browser scrolls instead of responding to a game control.
- Pointer: Confirm that each button responds to a click and that its game object has input enabled.
- Touch: Test that essential actions work on a touch-capable device without relying on a physical keyboard or mouse.
- Scoring: Check that a valid event changes the score once and that the score resets at the intended point in the game flow.
- Audio: Test playback after the initial click or tap, confirm the effect follows the correct event, check mute, and make sure loops stop on restart or scene change.
- Game flow: Play through start, gameplay, win or loss, and restart; check that controls, score, and sound remain sensible at each stage.
Keep the existing framework unless there’s a reason to change
If the generated game already uses Phaser, its input, sound, asset-loading, and scene tools can fit naturally into the existing code. If it is a small Canvas game with no framework, plain JavaScript may be simpler to maintain. Consider the current dependencies, target devices and input types, need for built-in game features, and your comfort maintaining framework-specific code before porting anything.
