Cura-connect is a community-developed Cura plugin for splitting a model and adding mechanical connectors between the printable pieces. It offers Plug, Dowel, Snap, and Dovetail joints, plus a repository-hosted installer for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The developer reports testing it with Cura 5.13; the project README says its Marketplace submission is still under review, so check the project page for current availability.
What Cura-connect adds to Cura
The plugin provides an interactive cut workflow: select a model, activate the tool, review its suggested cut plane, adjust the plane and connector settings, then apply the cut. The suggested plane is intended to avoid thin or lattice-like cross-sections and, where possible, keep the resulting pieces within the active printer bed. The README says the cut replaces the selected model with two pieces; Dowel also creates a separate pin, making three scene objects.

These are capabilities documented by the project, not independent test results. The developer reports trying the workflow on a hollow vase in Cura 5.13, including a fix for connector placement and sizing on hollow, wavy geometry.

Choose based on assembly access as well as joint shape: a Dovetail needs room to slide the pieces together, while a Snap depends on material flex. For a Snap, treat the preview as a geometry guide rather than proof that the printed parts will assemble successfully.

How to install the plugin
The project README lists a repository installer and double-click wrappers for the major desktop platforms. It says the installer detects the Cura installation and places the plugin in its expected nested folder.
- Open the cura-connect project page and follow its current installation instructions. The README lists
installer/install.pyand platform-specific double-click wrappers for macOS, Windows, and Linux. - Run the installer for your platform and allow it to place the plugin in Cura’s plugin location.
- Restart Cura. The README says to look for the tool on the left toolbar; its documented keyboard shortcut is

If you install manually, use Cura’s Help menu to open the configuration folder, then place the plugin under plugins/CuraConnect/CuraConnect/. UltiMaker’s bundled-plugin guidance says unbundled plugins should not be put in Cura’s bundled plugin directory; it points users to the configuration folder’s plugin directory, Marketplace when available, or dragging a .curapackage onto Cura. What to expect from the cutting controls
The README describes the initial plane placement as axis-aligned with support for a single tilt, rather than unrestricted rotation around three axes. That limits how freely you can orient a cut compared with slicers whose built-in cut tools provide broader rotation controls.

The project README describes OrcaSlicer and PrusaSlicer as having built-in Cut Tool connector modes. That is the project’s comparison, not a comprehensive or independently verified feature comparison; check each slicer’s current documentation for its present controls.

Hollow models and connector sizing
The developer says earlier connector placement could put evenly spaced joints in empty regions of a hollow, wavy vase, while sizing from the model’s bounding box could make connectors too large for thin walls. The project reports addressing this by checking candidate positions against the model geometry and using profile wall thickness and line width when sizing connectors.
Those are implementation claims from the developer and project README. Their reported hollow-vase exercise in Cura 5.13 does not establish that every hollow model, wall thickness, printer, or material will produce a reliable joint.

Marketplace availability and project status
The project README says the Marketplace submission is under review and the repository installer is available while that proceeds. The Marketplace landing page did not establish a listing for Cura-connect when checked, and a review status can change. Use the project page for the current installer and status rather than assuming the plugin is already listed in Marketplace.
