How to Add Chapters or Timestamps to a 24/7 YouTube Music Stream

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can add chapters to a 24/7 YouTube music stream’s replay by editing the archived video’s description in YouTube Studio and adding timestamp-and-title lines. The method is documented for videos, not guaranteed for every livestream replay—and a stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived at all. Plan for a usable replay first, then add and verify its chapters.

Before adding timestamps, make sure there is a replay to edit

YouTube’s chapter workflow applies to a video’s description. It does not promise chapters on every active livestream or on every archive generated from a continuous 24/7 broadcast.

Archive availability is a key constraint: YouTube Help says it can automatically archive a live stream that is less than 12 hours, while a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a chapterable replay of a 24/7 broadcast, plan a local recording or divide the broadcast into shorter sessions and check that each intended replay exists. Do not assume a single day-long stream will reliably produce a complete archive.

If YouTube has created a replay, you can try adding chapters to it. YouTube also notes that Advanced features access may be needed for chapters, and automatic chapters are not available on every video. See YouTube Help’s chapter instructions and eligibility information.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

How to add chapters to a YouTube livestream replay

  1. Open YouTube Studio and select Content.
  2. Find and open the archived video for your stream. If no archive exists, there is no replay description to edit for chapters.
  3. In the video description, add one timestamp and a descriptive title for each segment. Start the list with 00:00, then put the remaining timestamps in ascending order. For example:
    00:00 Opening set
    01:23 Ambient section
    1:02:15 Late-night mix
  4. Check the chapter rules: the list needs at least three timestamps, they must be in ascending order, and each chapter must be at least 10 seconds long.
  5. Save the description. Open the replay and check both its description and player to confirm that chapters appear. This verification matters because YouTube’s general video-chapter guidance does not guarantee the feature will render on every livestream archive.

The labels above are illustrative. Use titles that help listeners identify the music or section, and make sure the timestamp matches the moment that section actually begins.

Live navigation is not the same as replay chapters

DVR for viewers watching live

YouTube’s DVR feature lets viewers pause, rewind, and continue during a live stream. It is separate from chapters on a saved replay: DVR navigates the live broadcast, while description timestamps divide a video into sections. YouTube warns that DVR may be limited or unavailable on streams longer than 12 hours, and viewers cannot seek to a point before the stream began. See YouTube Help on DVR.

Stream markers for editing highlights

Creators can add stream markers during a live broadcast to make moments easier to locate on the editor timeline when creating highlights. Markers are an editing aid, not chapter entries; they do not replace timestamp-and-title lines in the replay description. See YouTube Help on stream markers.

Choose a broadcast plan that fits how listeners use timestamps

If listeners need to navigate a saved replay, first decide how you will preserve it: YouTube’s guidance does not establish that a continuous 24/7 stream will yield a complete archive. If they need to seek while the channel is live, consider that long streams may have limited or unavailable DVR. Shorter sessions can make separate replays easier to manage, but you will need to keep each replay’s timestamps aligned with its own start time. These are planning trade-offs, not guarantees about how YouTube will handle a particular stream.
