To add Bitcoin payments with the Breez SDK, use the current Breez SDK Spark integration: obtain an API key, choose a supported SDK binding, install and initialize it, listen for SDK events, then build separate prepare-and-send and receive flows into your app. Payment preparation validates a request and provides fee information for the user to review; the exact methods and behavior depend on the payment type and SDK version.
What the Breez SDK Spark integration provides
Breez describes its SDK as software developers can use to integrate Bitcoin and stablecoin transfers into an app or service. The current Spark repository describes a nodeless integration with supported send and receive methods and bindings for several development environments. Breez says the SDK is free and open source; that is a vendor description, not an independent assessment of performance or reliability.

Breez’s product page lists Swift, Kotlin, JavaScript, React Native, Flutter, Go, Python, C#, and WASM. The current Spark getting-started guide also lists Rust and Kotlin Multiplatform. These lists are not a guarantee that every binding works with every SDK release: check the current guide and the documentation for the version you intend to ship before choosing a package or copying an example.
Breez says more than 100 teams have integrated its SDK. The product page does not state the year for that figure, and it is a vendor-reported adoption claim rather than an independently verified market statistic.

Choose the current SDK branch and binding
This guide follows the current Breez SDK Spark materials. Do not treat examples from older Breez SDK variants, including Greenlight or older Liquid/Nodeless documentation, as interchangeable with Spark. API shape, supported methods, setup requirements, and platform coverage can differ between branches and versions.
Before implementation, identify the exact SDK branch and version, then select its binding for your app. Confirm that the binding is documented for that branch and that its setup instructions match your app’s platform and language. If the guide has changed since you began development, use the current version’s instructions rather than combining snippets from different generations of the SDK.
Get an API key and prepare a development setup
The current Spark getting-started guide says an API key is required and describes requesting one from Breez. Treat this as a prerequisite for your integration, and check the current vendor instructions for access and any applicable requirements before building your onboarding process around it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFollow the guide’s sequence for installation, development or testing, initialization, customization, SDK information, event listening, and logging. The precise package names, configuration fields, initialization calls, and platform-specific steps belong to the current binding documentation; they should not be inferred from an example written for another language or release.

Keep credentials and environment configuration out of places where they could be exposed to users or committed unintentionally. Decide how your development and production app configurations differ, and follow Breez’s current key-handling guidance. The reviewed documentation overview establishes the need for an API key but does not establish a particular key-storage design or a universal credential-rotation procedure.
Initialize the SDK and connect it to app state
Initialization is not just a one-time technical call. Your app needs a clear boundary between starting the SDK and presenting a usable payment experience. Implement the setup steps in the order shown for your binding, surface initialization failures in a recoverable way, and avoid showing a send or receive action as ready until the SDK has reached the state required by the current API.
The Spark getting-started guide includes SDK information, event listening, and logging in its onboarding outline. Use those documented facilities to understand what the integration reports and to diagnose failures. The reviewed materials do not establish event names, payload schemas, or a complete lifecycle contract, so do not build application logic around guessed event names or assume that callbacks from another SDK variant apply.

Design the user-facing status model around the states and errors exposed by the API version you actually use. A useful app-level distinction is whether a request is being prepared, awaiting user confirmation, being submitted, or has completed or failed—but map those labels to real SDK responses instead of treating them as guaranteed SDK event names. Keep errors visible and actionable, and ensure a dismissed or interrupted screen does not silently turn an unresolved operation into a success.

Use the SDK’s documented event and logging mechanisms as inputs to your app’s state handling. Define which component owns the current operation, how the UI receives state changes, and what happens if the app is backgrounded or restarted. The reviewed overview does not specify persistence or event-replay behavior, so verify those details in the current reference rather than assuming events will be replayed after a process restart.
Build sending as a prepare-then-send flow
Breez documents payment sending in two steps: prepare the payment, then send it. Preparation validates request details and returns fee information for the app to present before payment. Treat these as distinct user-visible stages, not as one opaque “Pay” action: the user should be able to inspect the request and relevant fee information before confirming the send.
- Collect and validate the destination. Accept only a payment method your current SDK version documents, and collect any required amount or other request details. Give the user a chance to check the destination before moving on.
- Prepare the payment. Call the preparation operation using the API and request shape documented for the selected binding. Handle validation errors and display the fee information the SDK returns.
- Explain the quote. Show whether a fee is an estimate or a real quote, along with the relevant amount and any route detail returned by the SDK. Do not relabel an estimate as a confirmed fee.
- Ask for confirmation. Give the user a clear opportunity to proceed or cancel after reviewing the destination, amount, and fee information.
- Send and reflect the result. Submit the prepared payment using the documented send operation, then update the UI from the returned result and documented events or errors. Do not show success merely because the user tapped the confirmation button.
The exact function names and parameter formats are version-specific and are not reproduced here. Use the current payment guide for executable code; a generic example would risk suggesting methods or fields that do not exist in the binding you selected.
Which payment destinations can the send flow handle?
The current send guide documents Lightning invoices (BOLT11), Bitcoin addresses, Spark addresses, and Spark invoices. Their requirements are not identical, so make the destination type explicit in the app and apply the rules for that type rather than treating every input as a generic address.

| Destination | Documented detail | Integration consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Lightning invoice (BOLT11) | An amount may optionally be supplied when the invoice itself has no amount. If the invoice specifies an amount, supplying a different amount is not supported. | Read the invoice’s amount condition before offering an amount field or allowing an override. Follow the current guide for validation and preparation behavior. |
| Bitcoin address | The amount must be specified. Preparation returns slow, medium, and fast fee quotes. | Present the amount and the available fee choices clearly. If a returned quote is marked as an estimate, preserve that qualification in the confirmation UI. |
| Spark address | Documented as a supported send destination in the current guide. | Use the current payment guide to establish the method-specific request format, validation, and fee display for your SDK version. |
| Spark invoice | Documented as a supported send destination in the current guide. | Use the current payment guide for invoice-specific amount rules and preparation details; do not assume they match BOLT11. |
The send guide says preparation may include a Spark transfer fee when a Spark route is available. It also says only one fee is paid, according to the selected payment route. The route and fee depend on the particular payment and SDK behavior, so show the values returned for the prepared payment rather than adding multiple possible route fees together or hard-coding a fee assumption.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Handle fee estimates and stable-balance conversion
Stable-balance settings can affect payment preparation when the app does not have enough Bitcoin to pay. This matters particularly for Bitcoin-address payments: when the Bitcoin balance is zero, the initial fee shown can be an estimate based on current on-chain rates. The guide says a real quote is fetched after conversion, replacing the estimate before payment.
Breez’s guide describes the estimate as an upper bound: if the final quote exceeds it, the operation fails rather than spending more than the estimate. Make that distinction understandable in the confirmation experience. An estimate is useful information, but it is not the same as the final quote. Display the status returned by the SDK, refresh the fee presentation when it changes, and make failure clear if the final quote cannot be used.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →- Show the amount being sent separately from the fee, using the units and values returned by the current API.
- Label an estimated quote as an estimate, and update the label and amount when a real quote replaces it.
- Do not promise a payment will proceed if the final quote exceeds the estimate; the documented behavior is to fail rather than exceed that bound.
- Keep conversion and route-specific details tied to the prepared payment. Do not infer conversion behavior from a different payment method or SDK version.
The reviewed materials do not establish a universal conversion time, a guaranteed exchange rate, or a fixed fee. Avoid adding such promises to the UX. If the app needs to explain what stable-balance conversion means in a particular transaction, base the explanation on the concrete information the SDK returns and the current stable-balance documentation.

Implement receiving for the payment types your app needs
The receive guide covers multiple methods, including generating a Bitcoin deposit address for on-chain payments. Choose receive methods that suit the use case instead of presenting every available option by default. For an on-chain use case, the app can use the documented address-generation flow; for other methods, follow the receive guide for the relevant request and status behavior.
Make the receiving screen specific about what the user should share and what the app can confirm. Provide a clear status area and connect it to the SDK’s documented event and error handling. The source overview does not enumerate every receive method or provide event schemas, so verify those details in the current receive guide and API reference before deciding what confirmations, labels, or timing to promise.
Testing, logging, and production readiness
Use the getting-started guide’s development or testing instructions and logging support to exercise your integration in the environment intended for development. Test the branches your UI actually exposes: destination validation, preparation errors, fee review, user cancellation, send outcomes, receive status, and any estimate-to-real-quote transition relevant to stable-balance conversion. These are implementation checks, not claims that a particular test environment or behavior has been independently verified here.

Breez explicitly cautions: “The web demo is for demonstration purposes only and not intended for production use.” Treat it as a demonstration, not as a production integration shortcut. A production app needs its own integration using the current SDK and the applicable binding documentation.
Before release, review the current docs for the exact SDK version you ship. Bindings, API access, providers, and API details can change. Confirm that your initialization, request construction, event handling, fee display, and error paths all match that version; do not rely on a browser demo or stale example as proof that the packaged app is production-ready.
Common integration mistakes to avoid
- Mixing SDK generations: Spark documentation is not automatically compatible with historical Greenlight or older Liquid/Nodeless instructions. Keep examples and package versions aligned with the branch you chose.
- Skipping preparation: The documented send flow prepares first so request details can be validated and fees reviewed. Do not make confirmation blind to those returned details.
- Overriding a fixed invoice amount: A BOLT11 invoice with a specified amount does not support a different amount. Apply the invoice’s amount condition before allowing an edit.
- Hiding estimate status: For the documented Bitcoin-address scenario with zero Bitcoin balance, a fee may begin as an estimate and be replaced with a real quote after conversion. Preserve that distinction in the UI.
- Inventing event semantics: Use event names, payloads, and lifecycle assumptions only when confirmed in the reference for the chosen SDK version.
- Promoting the web demo to production: Breez says the web demo is for demonstration only. Build against the supported SDK integration path instead.
What to verify in the current documentation
The SDK documentation is the authority for implementation details, and the materials can change. Before committing to a design or releasing an update, verify the items that are specific to your binding and version:
- Whether your language and platform binding is currently supported for the Spark branch.
- The current API-key request and access requirements.
- Installation, initialization, development/testing, configuration, and logging instructions.
- Exact payment method request formats, amount rules, preparation results, and send operations.
- Which receive methods are supported and how their status is surfaced.
- Event names, payloads, error handling, and any persistence or restart behavior your app relies on.
- Stable-balance configuration and how estimates, conversions, and final quotes are represented.
Breez’s product page, Spark getting-started guide, send guide, receive guide, and stable-balance guide are the relevant official references. Because no source URLs are included here, consult those documents through Breez’s current SDK documentation rather than relying on an unverified or reconstructed link.
