The current interface is not identical to the older PlanGrid-era BIM 360 Field viewer, so follow the instructions below that match your screen.
How do I add a markup to a drawing in current Autodesk Sheets?

Open the drawing in the Sheets tool.

Select a tool from the markup toolbar. Autodesk’s current instructions list Freehand, Text, Cloud, Shape and Arrow.

Place the markup on the sheet. For a shape, adjust its handles to set its size and layout, then click outside it to finish. You can also click and drag while placing a shape to set its size and orientation.

Style the annotation if needed. Available controls described in Autodesk’s instructions include border and fill colors. Textboxes and callouts can also have their text color and font size adjusted; advanced settings include border color, opacity and thickness, and fill color and opacity.

Decide whether it should remain private or be shared. New markups are unpublished by default and visible only to their creator. Select the markup and choose Publish to make it visible to project members, provided your permissions allow publishing.

Open the Markups panel to review manually created annotations. You can view, filter and sort them. To create a PDF, open the sheet’s More menu and choose Export; the PDF export lets you select which published and unpublished markups to include. The viewer also has undo and redo for changes made while the sheet is open.

Autodesk describes markups as a way for project members to communicate “updates, changes, and critical information.” Keep each note concise and place it close to the feature it refers to, so the annotation is easy to interpret in the drawing.

Check whether it is unpublished. In current Sheets, an unpublished markup is visible only to its creator. Select it and choose Publish; members with Create permission or above can publish. Once published, the markup is visible to all project members.

If your team wants new markups to be shared automatically, an administrator can set markups to publish by default in the sheets and files settings. This changes the default behavior; it does not mean the old BIM 360 Field controls and current Sheets controls are interchangeable.
Can I markup a drawing on mobile?
Autodesk’s current guidance says markups are available on web and in the Forma mobile app. Open the sheet in the current mobile workflow and use the available markup controls. The cited current guidance does not require a stylus; if you choose to use one with a touchscreen, check that it is compatible with your device.

Does your screen still say PlanGrid or BIM 360 Field?
If your interface matches the archived BIM 360 Field guide, use its legacy viewer instructions rather than assuming the current Sheets toolbar is present. The older web workflow starts by opening a library document or an attachment associated with an issue, checklist, task or equipment record, then opening the markup viewer.
Legacy web viewer tools
The archived web guide describes changing color and line width; adding text; drawing freehand lines, line segments and arrows; and placing circles, clouds, polygons or squares. It also lists creating or searching document links, measuring a line or area after setting a scale when needed, deleting markups, undoing or redoing changes, and hiding or showing markups.

Legacy mobile viewer tools
The archived mobile guide describes opening a library document or an issue or task attachment, then using mobile controls for text, freehand marks, lines and arrows, shapes, hide/show, undo/redo and deletion. These are legacy BIM 360 Field instructions, not a guarantee that the same controls appear in current Autodesk Sheets or the Forma app.
