Choose the kind of leaderboard you mean
“Leaderboard panel” can refer to two different things. Twitch’s native leaderboards appear at the top of the chat window; they are not composited into the video. A custom overlay, by contrast, is placed in the broadcast scene so viewers see it on the video itself.

Twitch describes its built-in leaderboards in its Leaderboards Guide. For an on-video panel, the instructions below cover the general OBS Browser Source workflow; the widget’s available data and setup depend on its provider.

Enable a built-in Twitch leaderboard in chat
- Open the relevant settings. In Twitch, go to Creator Dashboard settings and look under Monetization → Community → Leaderboards. If the menu has changed, search settings for “Leaderboard Settings.”
- Choose the activity to recognize. Select Top Gifters, Top Cheerers, or Top Clippers, depending on what you want the leaderboard to reflect.
- Enable the leaderboard if you want it shown. This native feature is displayed at the top of the chat window, not over the video. Twitch’s guide identifies these categories and the location; it does not establish every account’s eligibility or every setting option.
Add a custom on-video leaderboard in OBS
1. Confirm the widget fits your use case
Before installing anything, check the provider’s current documentation or widget settings for three things: the platform it reads data from, the metric it ranks, and whether it provides a leaderboard rather than a single label. A catalog entry alone does not establish support for every platform or ranking type. Stream Kit’s documentation, for example, lists a Leaderboard overlay type, but you should verify its current scope for your own channel in the provider’s instructions.

For a Twitch stream, decide whether you want a provider widget instead of—or in addition to—the built-in chat leaderboard. The native feature and an on-video widget have different locations and configuration paths.
2. Copy the provider’s widget URL
Configure the leaderboard with the provider, then copy its widget or overlay URL. Some widgets may require account authorization or provider-specific setup; follow that provider’s current instructions. Streamlabs’ widget guidance documents the general pattern of copying a widget URL into compatible broadcast software such as OBS Studio.

3. Add it as a Browser Source
- Open OBS and select the scene where the panel should appear.
- In the Sources panel, click + and choose Browser (Browser Source).
- Create a new source, give it a recognizable name such as “Leaderboard,” and paste the provider’s widget URL into the URL field.
- Set the source width and height according to the provider’s instructions and your stream canvas. There is no universal size that works for every widget; use the provider’s recommended dimensions if it supplies them.
- Click OK, then position and resize the source in the preview. Check that it does not cover important content or sit outside the visible canvas.
- Preview the scene and, where possible, verify that the displayed ranking and names update as expected before going live.
OBS’s Stream Layout Tutorial 2: Alerts & Chat Box explains using Browser sources for overlays. Treat the URL and dimensions as widget-specific: copying the URL does not guarantee that the provider tracks the activity or platform you intend.

Streamlabs documents an overlay-library route in Streamlabs Desktop: browse and select an overlay, choose components, and install it into the scene collection. It also documents an OBS plugin path and a scene-collection import route. The exact available overlays and components can vary, so check the current catalog and make sure the selected component is actually a leaderboard.

When a supporter label is enough
If you only need to show one selected supporter value rather than a ranked board, a stream label may be simpler. Streamlabs documents adding Stream Labels in Streamlabs Desktop or OBS Studio, with selected recent or top supporter values. Because a label is not necessarily a multi-person leaderboard, confirm what the specific label displays before placing it in the scene. See Streamlabs’ Stream Labels instructions.

Troubleshoot a missing or incorrect panel
- The panel appears in chat but not on the video: That is expected for Twitch’s native leaderboard. Add a provider widget to an OBS scene if you want the ranking composited into the video.
- The Browser Source is blank: Recheck the copied URL and provider setup, then confirm the source is enabled and sized within the canvas. Use the provider’s documented URL and troubleshooting steps; a different widget type may not render leaderboard data.
- The wrong metric or platform appears: Return to the provider’s configuration and verify the selected platform and ranking category. Do not assume that a widget supports gifts, cheers, clips, followers, points, or other metrics unless the provider says so.
- You see one name or value rather than a ranked list: You may have added a Stream Label or another single-value widget, not a leaderboard. Select a leaderboard widget if the provider offers one.
- The panel is cut off or covers the scene: Adjust its placement and dimensions in the OBS preview, keeping it inside the canvas and clear of content you need viewers to see.
