Check the plugin’s current feature tier, WordPress compatibility, and visibility controls first: listings and features can change, and a plugin’s advertised feature is not a guarantee it will suit every theme. Developers can instead build a custom block using WordPress’s block asset guidance.
A share button lets a visitor share the current page. It is different from a social-profile icon, which links to a profile or another site. WordPress’s Social Icon block is for profile links, not page-sharing controls.

Choose a plugin or build a custom block
A floating share bar keeps sharing controls visible as a reader scrolls. For most site owners, a plugin is the simpler route. A custom block is more appropriate if you have development experience and need control over how the block and its assets are implemented.
| Option | What its listing says | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Social Share Block (WPDeveloper) | The WordPress.org listing describes a Gutenberg block with customization controls and floating social share buttons with a scrolling effect. It says installation is available through the block editor or the Plugins workflow. | Confirm the feature, current compatibility details, and any requirements on the current listing. Its reported version and tested WordPress versions can change. |
| B Social Share | The WordPress.org UK listing describes share-block features in the free version and a floating share bar with visibility controls in Pro. Its changelog lists version 2.4.0 dated July 22, 2026. | Check whether the floating bar and the controls you need are still in the tier you intend to use. |
| Social Sharing Block (Nick Diego) | The listing describes a sharing block with multiple networks and says it does not use front-end JavaScript files. | The listing does not establish that it provides a floating bar, so do not choose it on that assumption. |
These are plugin-directory descriptions, not independent compatibility or performance tests. Compare the current listing with your needs before installing; no universal theme compatibility or increase in sharing is established by these sources.
#1 Best Overall
- CAPTURE BIGGER PROJECTS WITH CONFIDENCE – Record music, interviews, podcasts, video audio, and live performances with a 4-track recorder that helps you capture more of the moment without worrying about distorted takes.
- PLUG IN THE MICS AND GEAR YOU NEED – Use the built-in stereo microphones, connect external mics or instruments, or plug into a mixer or soundboard with two XLR/TRS inputs.
- CLEAR SOUND FOR CREATIVE WORK – Capture detailed audio for songs, videos, podcasts, interviews, and field recordings, whether you’re recording quiet dialogue, loud performances, or anything in between.
- RECORD TO YOUR DEVICE AND YOUR SD CARD – Connect to your phone, tablet, or computer with USB-C for recording or streaming, while also saving a backup directly to SD card.
- EASIER TO USE FOR MORE CREATORS – Spoken menu guidance helps make recording more accessible for visually impaired users and easier to navigate for anyone who wants a more guided experience.
Install and configure a floating-bar plugin
- Check the listing. Open the plugin’s current WordPress.org page and confirm that floating placement is included in the version or plan you will use. Review its WordPress requirements and instructions.
- Install the plugin. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Plugins > Add New Plugin, search for the plugin, choose Install Now, then select Activate. If the plugin’s listing directs you to install through the block editor, follow that route instead; the exact interface can differ.
- Add or enable its sharing block. If the plugin provides a Gutenberg block, open the page or template where the bar should appear, add the plugin’s block through the editor, and use its available settings. Some plugins may instead expose display controls elsewhere in the dashboard. Follow the current plugin documentation rather than expecting identical menu names across products or versions.
- Choose networks and placement. Include only services that make sense for your audience. Set the bar’s position and any available page-visibility rules so it does not obstruct important content or appear where it is not wanted.
- Save and review the published page. Check the result on the actual layouts where it appears, not only in the editor.
Check the bar on real pages and screens
Before making the bar available site-wide, review representative pages on desktop, tablet, and phone-sized screens. These are practical checks, not guarantees about a particular plugin’s behavior.
- Scroll through the page and look for overlap with text, images, menus, cookie notices, or other fixed controls.
- Check whether the bar appears on the intended page types and stays out of places where it is unnecessary, using visibility settings if the plugin provides them.
- Confirm that the share controls are distinguishable from social-profile links and that visitors can identify the service each control uses. Check labels and keyboard access as part of your site review.
- Look for duplicate sharing controls if the theme, another plugin, or the page already adds them.
- Compare the editor preview with the published page; styling and placement can differ between contexts.
Build a custom block as a developer
For a custom floating bar, create a block that outputs share controls for the current page and handles its intended position and responsive behavior. The available sources do not provide a complete implementation, so a short snippet would not be enough to serve as a working block.

The WordPress Block Editor Handbook says, “The block.json file is the recommended way to enqueue all scripts and styles that are specifically required for the block itself.” In Use styles and stylesheets, WordPress distinguishes editorStyle for editor styles, style for styles used in the editor and front end, and viewStyle for front-end styles. Choose asset scope deliberately, then verify the block in both the editor and on the published page.

Troubleshoot common setup questions
- The bar is missing: Confirm the plugin is active, the block or display feature is enabled, the relevant page is within its visibility rules, and floating placement is available in your selected tier.
- The bar covers content: Revisit its position and visibility settings, then check the affected page layouts at different screen sizes.
- The bar looks different on the published page: Compare editor and front-end views and check for theme styling interactions. Compatibility is not guaranteed across themes.
- There are two sets of share buttons: Check the page, theme, and other active plugins for another sharing feature, then disable the duplicate if appropriate.
