For an encoder-based YouTube Live, put the countdown and store hours in the promo-loop video itself, then send that video through your encoder. YouTube’s native countdown theme is a Premiere feature, not a countdown control for an encoder-based live stream.
Put the countdown and hours in the video feed
A promo loop is the video your encoder sends to YouTube during the live stream. Add the countdown treatment and store hours to that video before connecting the encoder. If the loop will repeat, make sure the information remains accurate each time it plays.

Make the information easy to read
- Show the event start time alongside the countdown so viewers know what it is counting toward.
- Display the store hours in clear, readable text and leave them on screen long enough to be understood.
- Preview the full video and its transitions. YouTube does not prescribe a design or editing app for this; use an editor that suits your workflow.
Schedule the YouTube Live and connect your encoder
- In YouTube Studio, select Create, then Go live. Open Manage and schedule the stream. YouTube’s encoder guide allows you to reuse settings or create a new stream: YouTube Help: Go live with an encoder.
- In the scheduled stream’s Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key into your encoder. The key tells the encoder where to send the feed and allows YouTube to accept it, so treat it like a password: do not share it publicly.
- Start the encoder with the prepared promo-loop video as its feed. Wait for the stream preview to appear in Live Control Room.
- Inspect the preview, then select Go live when it is correct. YouTube recommends checking the preview and monitoring stream audio and video quality: YouTube Help: Stream with an encoder.
Check the actual stream before going live
Use the Live Control Room preview to verify the feed viewers will receive, not just the source file on your computer. For this promo-loop use case, check that the countdown is legible and current, the store hours are correct and readable, and the loop transitions cleanly. Also check audio and video quality, as YouTube recommends.

Know the difference between a loop, a trailer and a Premiere countdown

Promote the scheduled event
YouTube recommends sharing the stream link at least 48 hours before going live. You can also prepare a teaser or trailer and embed the link on a website; see YouTube Help: Promote your live stream. A scheduled stream may appear as upcoming, where viewers can select “Notify me.”
