The right way to add a Buy Now button depends on how you sell. If your site already uses WooCommerce, use a WooCommerce extension or shortcode to send a chosen product to checkout. If you only need to take payment for a simple product or service, a standalone PayPal or Stripe button plugin may fit better. Custom code is another option, but needs testing with your theme and checkout setup.
Choose the right type of Buy Now button
First decide whether buyers should purchase a WooCommerce product or make a standalone payment. A Buy Now button can skip the cart and lead to checkout, but it does not necessarily let someone complete a purchase in one click; the shopper may still need to enter details and confirm payment.
- WooCommerce catalog: Use a WooCommerce-specific extension when you sell products through WooCommerce and want the button tied to product pages, variations, or the store’s checkout.
- Standalone payment: Consider a PayPal/Stripe button plugin when you need to collect payment for a simple product or service without using a WooCommerce catalog flow.
- Custom behavior: A developer can add a button that sends a product to checkout, but a sample snippet is not guaranteed to work with every theme, product type, or checkout extension.
Add a button to a WooCommerce store
Option 1: Use Buy Now Button for WooCommerce
The WordPress.org listing for Buy Button for WooCommerce documents a shortcode in this form: [buy_button_wc id="1"]. Replace 1 with the ID of the product you want to sell. The listing says a click redirects the customer to checkout and describes optional button text, a CSS class, and product-showcase settings.
- In your WordPress dashboard, open Plugins > Add New and search for the plugin, or install it using the method described on its WordPress.org listing.
- Activate it and review any available settings.
- Find the product ID in WooCommerce, then place the shortcode in the page or post where the button should appear, replacing the example ID with the correct one.
- Preview the page and follow the button through checkout to confirm it points to the intended product.
Option 2: Use Buy Now Button for WooCommerce by Codeixer
The Codeixer plugin listing describes controls for putting a button before or after Add to Cart, or using it in place of Add to Cart. Depending on its configuration, the button can send shoppers to checkout or open a popup. The listing describes support for simple and variable products and documents the shortcode [buy_now_woo_button].
#1 Best Overall
- Install the plugin from the WordPress plugin screen or upload it as described in its listing, then activate it.
- Open the WooCommerce settings area specified by the plugin and choose the button placement and destination behavior.
- If you use the shortcode, place
[buy_now_woo_button]where the button should appear. - Test a simple product and, if your store sells variable products, a variation as well. Confirm that the selected item and variation appear correctly in the next step.
The listing reported 5,000+ active installations on September 30, 2026, and included a September 16, 2026 changelog entry noting compatibility with WooCommerce 11.x and WordPress 7.1. These are time-specific WordPress.org listing details, not a guarantee for your installation; check the current listing and verify compatibility with your versions, theme, and checkout extensions.
Add a standalone PayPal or Stripe payment button
If you do not need a WooCommerce product catalog, the WordPress.org listing for Easy PayPal & Stripe Buy Now Button describes a payment button that can be placed where needed. Its example shortcode is [wpecpp name='Product name goes here' price='6.99']; replace the example name and price with the values for your offer.
- Install and activate the plugin using the instructions on its listing.
- Configure its settings and the relevant payment-service account details.
- Add the shortcode to the page where the payment button should appear, using the correct product or service name and price.
- Check that the payment account is configured and available for your location, then run a safe test of the payment flow before relying on it.
This standalone approach is distinct from adding a Buy Now button to a WooCommerce product: confirm that the payment method, account setup, currency, and buyer flow suit your needs before publishing the button.
Use custom code only when you can test the whole flow
A WordPress support thread includes an example that hooks a button beside WooCommerce’s Add to Cart button and sends a product ID to the checkout URL: Buy Now Button Not Working. Treat it as an implementation illustration, not drop-in code. A theme may change where the button appears, and product variations or checkout extensions may need additional handling.

Do not publish it until you have confirmed that the intended product reaches checkout and that payment can be completed correctly.

Use a staging site where available, or follow the payment provider’s safe testing process. Check these points after setup:
Rank #4
- The button appears in the intended location and has the expected label.
- It follows the configured behavior: checkout redirect, popup, or standalone payment.
- The correct product and selected variation, where applicable, reach the next step.
- The price and payment settings are correct, and the checkout can be completed through the configured payment method.
- The flow still works with the active theme and any checkout-related extensions.
If the button is missing, check its placement settings and shortcode location. If it appears but leads to the wrong item or an incomplete checkout, verify the product ID or variation handling and test with the site’s checkout configuration. The documented options differ, so there is no single plugin or code path established as best for every WordPress store.
