The official way to use YouTube Kids on a Windows 10 or Windows 11 computer is through a current web browser at youtubekids.com. Google’s computer guidance does not provide a native Windows installer. Microsoft Edge can install the site as an app-like shortcut that opens in its own window, but it remains a website powered by Edge. Avoid unofficial “YouTube Kids for PC” installers, APKs, emulators and third-party Store clients.
Does YouTube Kids have an official Windows app?
As of August 2026, Google directs computer users to the YouTube Kids website rather than a separately compiled Windows application. The practical choices are:

| Option | What it is | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Browser website | YouTube Kids opened in Edge, Chrome or Firefox | Shared PCs, occasional viewing and computers without installation rights |
| Edge site as an app | A dedicated Edge-powered window, shortcut and Start/taskbar entry | A cleaner, app-like launch for a child |
| Native Windows app | A separately compiled program from Google | Not presented as Google’s official desktop route in its current computer documentation |
Installing the site through Edge does not block regular YouTube, another browser or other websites. Those restrictions require Windows and browser controls.
Google lists the United States among supported web locations, but availability can vary by country, account configuration and network policy. See Google’s current computer requirements and availability guidance.

What you need before starting
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 with an internet connection.
- A current version of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Google’s documented minimums are Chrome 50+, Firefox 44+ and Edge 14+ for signed-in users; Safari 9+ is also listed for signed-out users. These are old thresholds, not recommendations.
- Optional: a parent Google Account and child profile or child Google Account.
- Optional: a separate Microsoft child account and Microsoft Family Safety for Windows restrictions.
YouTube Kids may still run in a current browser on Windows 10, but Microsoft ended normal Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025. Website compatibility and operating-system security support are separate issues.
How to use YouTube Kids in a browser
- Update the browser. Use the latest available Edge, Chrome or Firefox; do not use Internet Explorer or legacy Edge.
- Open the official address. Type https://www.youtubekids.com/ directly and confirm the HTTPS address before entering account details.
- Complete parent setup. Follow the on-screen parent-verification prompts. Google allows YouTube Kids without signing in, although signing in enables more profile and account-linked features (Google’s parent guide).
- Create or select a child profile. Use a separate profile for each child when appropriate. Google’s parent information page states that signed-in parents can create up to eight profiles; the exact availability can depend on the current interface.
- Choose content controls. Select the age setting, decide whether Search should be available and consider Approved content only for a hand-picked library.
- Test child view. Sign in as the child and check the profile, search behavior and available videos. Also verify whether unrestricted YouTube remains reachable in another tab, browser or Windows account.
Turning Search off limits the experience to channels and content selected for YouTube Kids and changes related history and recommendations. Approved content only displays content specifically chosen by the parent. These controls govern YouTube Kids itself, not every service on the computer.
How to install YouTube Kids as an Edge app
- Open Microsoft Edge and visit https://www.youtubekids.com/.
- Select Settings and more (…) in the upper-right corner.
- Choose More tools, then Apps.
- Select Install this site as an app.
- Confirm the name and select Install.
Manage the shortcut at edge://apps. From the app’s Details menu you can create a desktop shortcut, pin it to Start or the taskbar, enable automatic startup where offered, or uninstall it. Microsoft documents this process at Install, manage or uninstall apps in Microsoft Edge.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The result is a web app (a dedicated Edge window), not an independent YouTube Kids program. It still uses Edge, the website and the same account state.
Signed out or signed in?
Signed out
- No child Google Account is required and setup is quick on a shared computer.
- Personalization and account-linked management are limited.
- It does not stop a child from leaving the site for regular YouTube or another browser.
Signed in
- Profiles and preferences can be associated with an account.
- Parents can use Google family and supervision tools where available.
- Settings are easier to keep consistent across supported devices.
Google confirms that a child can use a Google Account with YouTube Kids on the web at youtubekids.com.
How to restrict regular YouTube and other sites on Windows
For meaningful computer-level protection, use a separate Windows child account rather than a parent administrator account. Microsoft Family Safety and YouTube Kids solve different problems:
Rank #2
- Ultra-speedy streaming: Roku Ultra is 30% faster than any other Roku player, delivering a lightning-fast interface and apps that launch in a snap.
- Cinematic streaming: This TV streaming device brings the movie theater to your living room with spectacular 4K, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision picture alongside immersive Dolby Atmos audio.
- The ultimate Roku remote: The rechargeable Roku Voice Remote Pro offers backlit buttons, hands-free voice controls, and a lost remote finder.
- No more fumbling in the dark: See what you’re pressing with backlit buttons.
- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
| Control layer | What it manages | Important boundary |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Kids | Age settings, Search, approved content, profiles and in-service history | Does not lock other browsers, apps or websites |
| Google Family Link | Child Google Account and Google/YouTube supervision | Not a complete Windows lock-down tool |
| Microsoft Family Safety | Windows family accounts, Edge web filters, allowed sites, apps, games, activity and device limits | Web/search filtering requires Edge with the child signed in to their Microsoft account |
Microsoft’s setup guidance is available through Family Safety and its web and search filter instructions.
- Add the child’s Microsoft account to your Microsoft family group.
- Have the child use their own Windows account.
- Require or encourage Edge and ensure the child is signed in to Edge.
- Turn on Filter inappropriate websites and searches.
- If using an allow-list, add
www.youtubekids.comand other genuinely required sites. - Block regular YouTube if your household policy is YouTube Kids only.
- Restrict alternate browsers and portable browsers where appropriate.
- Test everything from the child’s Windows session, not the parent administrator account.
Microsoft’s Only use allowed websites setting can limit access to specifically approved sites. Administrators may still be able to bypass restrictions, so test the real child account.
Family Link and YouTube Kids
Family Link manages a child’s Google Account and Google family settings; YouTube Kids manages the child’s YouTube Kids experience; Microsoft Family Safety manages Windows and Edge restrictions. None automatically replaces the others.
Google says parents can create a child account through Family Link and choose YouTube Kids or a supervised YouTube experience, depending on availability and preference. Family Link can set a YouTube Kids content level and decide whether the child may use Search. See Google’s Family Link and YouTube guidance.
Do not confuse YouTube Kids with supervised YouTube: they are different Google experiences with different content and controls.
Time limits: what Family Safety can and cannot do
Microsoft distinguishes app/game limits from website restrictions and states that time limits do not work directly on websites. An installed YouTube Kids site may appear as an app-like item, but recognition and individual timing can vary. A device-level Windows time limit is more dependable than assuming the website itself has a timer. Check the current Family Safety interface rather than promising a direct YouTube Kids website limit; Microsoft’s explanation is at Set app and game limits.

Windows 10 and 11 in S mode
S mode primarily restricts software installation to Microsoft Store apps and requires Microsoft Edge as the default browser, but websites still work in Edge. Open YouTube Kids in Edge instead of searching for an unofficial installer. Microsoft says switching out of S mode is permanent and cannot be reversed, so leaving S mode solely to access YouTube Kids is unnecessary. Refer to Microsoft’s S mode FAQ.
Edge Kids Mode is not a current solution
Older guides may recommend Edge Kids Mode, but Microsoft says Kids Mode is deprecated. The current combination is YouTube Kids’ own controls, a separate Windows child account, Microsoft Family Safety and (optionally) an Edge site-as-app shortcut.

YouTube Kids will not load
- Confirm the address is
https://www.youtubekids.com/. - Update Edge, Chrome or Firefox.
- Try a private/incognito window.
- Temporarily disable extensions and clear YouTube/Google site data.
- Try another supported browser and check country availability.
- Verify the computer’s date and time.
- Check school, workplace, router, DNS and antivirus filtering.
Google’s requirements page lists supported browsers and locations but cannot guarantee access through every managed network.
The child still sees regular YouTube
Check for another tab, browser, Windows account or a supervised-YouTube sign-in. Use a separate child Windows account, Edge signed in to the child’s Microsoft account, Family Safety website filtering, restrictions on alternate browsers and a child-session test. Microsoft’s site-blocking guidance is at Filter websites and searches; app blocking is covered at Block or unblock apps.
“Install this site as an app” is missing
Update Edge, open the website directly, then use Settings and more (…) > More tools > Apps > Install this site as an app. Check edge://apps afterward. In S mode, continue with Edge rather than switching modes.
Family Safety filters do not work
Confirm the child is in the family group, signed in to Edge with the child Microsoft account, using the correct Windows profile and not opening Chrome, Firefox or another browser. Microsoft explicitly limits these web filters to Edge in this configuration.

Does YouTube Kids work without a Google Account?
Yes. Google documents signed-out use, although account-linked profiles and management require sign-in.
Can Microsoft Family Safety set a reliable timer for the YouTube Kids website?
No direct website timer is guaranteed. Microsoft separates website restrictions from app and game limits; use device-level limits and test the current interface.
Is YouTube Kids completely safe?
