Start by looking for another Post Office branch that offers the service you need. Use the official Post Office branch finder, open the individual listing, and check its service menu and opening hours before travelling. A nearby Banking Hub may help with some banking and cash needs, but it does not replace a Post Office branch.
Find another branch that offers your service
- Identify the task. Whether you need to post a letter, handle an identity service, buy travel money, use a banking counter or send a parcel, search for that specific service rather than choosing the closest branch by distance alone.
- Search the branch finder. Enter your location and review nearby results. Branch services and opening times vary; a listing may also show alternative branches.
- Open the individual listing. Confirm the exact service and the hours for the day you plan to visit. Do not assume that every branch provides every service, or that its hours match another location’s.
The branch finder is the practical way to compare alternatives for your location. There is no universal nearest substitute: the suitable branch depends on both your location and the service required.

When a Banking Hub can help—and when it cannot
Post Office’s official guidance puts the distinction plainly: “No. While they’re operated by Post Office, Banking Hubs aren’t regular Post Office branches.” A Banking Hub provides in-person banking and cash services, not the full Post Office service menu.
Post Office says Banking Hubs do not handle posting letters or parcels, insurance, travel money or identity services. If you need one of those tasks, find a branch that lists it rather than travelling to a hub.

For cash and in-person banking
Post Office branches offer specified over-the-counter banking services, including cash withdrawals, cash and cheque deposits, and balance enquiries. The transactions available depend on the bank and service, so check the information for your bank before setting out. A Banking Hub is another possible option for in-person banking, but verify that one is available nearby, which services your bank offers there, and its local opening hours.
Post Office’s Network Report 2025 recorded 145 Banking Hubs and two Cash Hubs open as of March 2025. These are dated figures, not a current total. The report describes a Cash Hub as a location offering essential banking services where there is no nearby Post Office branch.

For parcels, returns and collections
Posting or returning a parcel
Check the branch listing for the carrier and parcel service you need. Royal Mail and Parcelforce Worldwide services are generally available, subject to stated branch exceptions; DPD and Evri are available only at selected branches. Some branch types have restricted mail services. Do not assume a branch accepts a particular carrier or return just because it accepts other parcels.
Collecting a Royal Mail Local Collect parcel
Participating Post Office branches can receive Royal Mail Local Collect deliveries when you choose that option at a retailer. To collect, bring accepted ID and the tracking ID. Post Office’s stated holding periods are 18 days for Royal Mail and 15 days for Parcelforce Worldwide. Check the current collection instructions and the participating branch’s listing before travelling.

If there is no suitable Banking Hub nearby
If the problem is a lack of local in-person cash access, a community can request an Access to Cash review through LINK. This is a route for assessing local cash access; it is not an immediate substitute for a branch visit, and it does not provide unrelated Post Office services such as postage, identity services or travel money.
Check digital identity services carefully
Post Office lists digital services including EasyID and PASS card. The available information does not establish that every in-branch identity task can be completed digitally. Check the details for the specific identity service you need rather than treating a digital option as a guaranteed replacement for an in-person service.

- Match the alternative location to the exact service, carrier, bank transaction or collection you need.
- Check the individual listing for its current opening times and service availability.
- For banking, confirm the service for your bank; for collections, confirm the branch participates and take the required ID and tracking details.
