At VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026, 16 teams begin in four groups, and the top two from each group advance to an eight-team, double-elimination playoff. Most playoff series are best of three; the lower-bracket final and grand final are best of five. Riot’s event guide schedules the playoffs for October 7–18, 2026, but check the live schedule for current pairings and start times.
How teams qualify for the playoffs
Champions begins with 16 teams divided into four GSL groups. Each group sends its top two teams forward, making an eight-team playoff field. Riot describes the tournament’s two stages as groups and playoffs.

How the eight-team playoff bracket works
The playoffs use double elimination. A team that loses a match drops into the lower bracket rather than being eliminated immediately; a second playoff loss ends its tournament run. The lower-bracket survivor meets the upper-bracket survivor in the grand final.
The official bracket display is the place to check current pairings and round-by-round placement. Those details depend on results, so a general format explanation cannot tell you which teams are currently facing each other.
