How Strong Vendor Partnerships Help MSSPs Grow

Vendor partnerships can help MSSPs build repeatable services and reach customers, but growth depends on operational fit, customer value, and verified program terms.

Strong vendor partnerships can help managed security service providers (MSSPs) grow by making services easier to deliver repeatedly, opening a credible path to new capabilities, and supporting customer acquisition and retention. Those benefits depend on fit and execution: vendor program descriptions explain what partners may receive, not proof that partnering by itself increases revenue.

How partnerships can support MSSP growth

A vendor relationship is most useful when it improves the MSSP’s operating model as well as its product portfolio. The practical growth mechanisms fall into three connected areas: delivery, service development, and demand generation.

Make multi-customer delivery workable

An MSSP needs to administer and support security services across multiple customer environments. Multi-tenancy, delegated administration, and licensing that works across accounts can reduce friction compared with treating every customer as a separate deployment. For example, CRN’s 2026 security partner guide describes eSentire’s Atlas Nexus Network as allowing MSPs and systems integrators to license and operate a dedicated instance of its Atlas XDR platform. It also describes SentinelOne PartnerOne’s Manage track as designed for MSPs, MSSPs, and MDRs integrating the vendor’s technology into service delivery. These are descriptions of program capabilities, not independent assessments of operational results (CRN, 2026 Partner Program Guide: 5-Star Security Vendor Programs).

Turn expertise into a repeatable service

A clearly defined service offer is easier to scope, deploy, explain, and support than a succession of bespoke projects. The MSSP can set expectations for what is included, establish a repeatable onboarding process, and identify when a customer needs a higher tier or a different service. CRN’s 2026 coverage of Dispel describes three OT-security service tiers built on its platform. Dispel’s director of partnerships, Chris McCormick, said the aim is to help MSSPs “land the engagement, prove the model and then grow with the customer.” That is a vendor’s stated approach, not independent evidence that the tiers are profitable or successful for every provider (CRN, “Dispel Exec: We’re Helping MSSPs Turn An Engagement From A ‘One-Off Project Into Recurring Revenue’”).

Build a practice with enablement and support

Training, certifications, technical support, documentation, partner portals, and access to subject-matter experts can reduce the effort required to build a new service practice. Their value is operational: they may help staff learn a product, resolve deployment issues, and support customers without the MSSP having to create every resource from scratch. CRN’s 2026 security guide describes tailored enablement and go-to-market support in Darktrace’s dedicated MSSP track. Its 2026 MSP platform guide also describes partner programs that can include training, services, resources, and other benefits (CRN, “2026 Partner Program Guide: 5-Star MSP Platform Vendor Programs”).

Use vendor support to reach and retain customers

Co-branded marketing, joint pipeline activity, deal registration, and co-selling can help an MSSP reach prospects or coordinate a sale with a vendor. After a customer signs, the same relationship may help the provider expand a service or renew it if the offer continues to meet the customer’s needs. CRN’s reporting on 2026 channel-program goals describes vendor priorities that include adoption, expansion, renewal, and partner-delivered services. These are forward-looking vendor statements, not verified outcomes for MSSPs (CRN, “Setting A High Bar: IT Companies’ Goals For Their Channel Programs In 2026”).

How to evaluate a vendor partnership

Compare partners against the service you intend to deliver, the customers you serve, and the work your team must perform. A vendor with generous incentives may still be a poor fit if its tooling or licensing makes service delivery difficult.

Evaluation area Questions to ask
MSSP fit Is there a managed-service track? Can staff manage multiple customer environments with appropriate multi-tenancy and delegated administration? Does licensing work across customer accounts?
Delivery effort What specialist skills and staff time are needed to deploy, operate, and support the service? What is included in onboarding, and what remains the MSSP’s responsibility?
Enablement Which technical training, certifications, documentation, partner operations resources, and support channels are available? Are they accessible to the people who will deliver the service?
Demand generation Does the program offer usable co-marketing, joint pipeline activity, deal registration, or co-selling? Clarify eligibility and what the vendor actually commits to provide.
Commercial model Are program rules, incentives, licensing, and customer lifecycle economics clear? Can the service support recurring delivery without relying on unclear fees or unplanned professional services?
Differentiation and customer value Can you offer something valuable to a defined customer segment, such as industrial OT, while retaining ownership of the customer relationship?

CRN’s 2026 MSP platform guide covers platforms such as PSA and RMM systems and describes vendor programs that may include incentives, training, services, and marketing resources. It also notes ConnectWise’s emphasis on security and data-protection marketing support. Consider these program features alongside security-vendor capabilities: an MSSP’s service stack has to work as a whole, not just product by product.

What current program examples do—and do not—show

CRN’s 2026 security partner guide describes several models relevant to MSSPs: Darktrace has a dedicated MSSP track with tailored benefits, enablement, and go-to-market support; SentinelOne’s PartnerOne Manage track is aimed at MSPs, MSSPs, and MDRs; and eSentire’s Atlas Nexus Network allows MSPs and systems integrators to license and operate a dedicated Atlas XDR instance. These examples show the range of program structures a provider may encounter, but the guide’s descriptions are based on vendor applications and were lightly edited. They are evidence of declared program design, not independently measured partner growth.

CRN’s 2026 Dispel coverage describes a five-tier partner program, training, co-branded marketing, dedicated support, and three OT-security service tiers. McCormick also said Dispel’s technology deploys in under three hours per facility. Treat that deployment time as a vendor executive’s claim; actual effort can depend on the configuration and environment, so confirm current technical requirements before using it in a service plan. A program’s stated features should be checked against the MSSP’s own customer environments and delivery process.

Why customer segment and service fit matter

A partnership can be especially relevant when a vendor helps an MSSP serve a segment that requires different expertise or operating practices. Industrial operational technology (OT), for example, is not simply another IT environment. Novacoast’s director of OT, Sam Alva, told CRN: “Most MSSPs are built for IT environments, and it shows the moment you ask them to cover an OT network.” That observation underscores the need to validate that a proposed service, staff training, and vendor support match the environments the MSSP intends to protect. A specialized offer can differentiate the provider, but it must still solve a real customer problem and be supportable over time.

Assess growth claims carefully

Do not treat a vendor’s revenue or deployment claim as a benchmark for your own business. In CRN’s coverage of Todyl’s MSP program, channel chief Darrin Swan attributed a 15% to 25% increase in monthly recurring revenue to the program. The report does not provide a sample, measurement method, or independent validation, so that figure is an executive’s claim, not a general MSSP growth rate. Likewise, Dispel’s under-three-hours-per-facility deployment statement is a vendor claim rather than a guarantee for every configuration. Ask vendors how a figure was measured, what environments it covers, and whether it represents a typical or particular case.

The available 2026 reporting describes program features and vendor-reported aims; it does not establish a universal growth rate caused by vendor partnerships. Evaluate any relationship against your own delivery costs, customer adoption, renewals, and expansion rather than assuming a program’s incentives or promises will translate into growth.
