The Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 are closely matched 2021 flagship processors, but neither is a universal winner. They share a 5nm-class process and a Cortex-X1-based CPU cluster; their GPUs differ, and historical tests show results that depend on the workload and the specific phone. For a purchase decision, compare the exact device variant and sustained performance—not just a peak score.
Specifications: Snapdragon 888 vs Exynos 2100
These are platform specifications announced by Qualcomm and Samsung, not a guarantee that every phone using either chip implements every capability. Qualcomm identifies the Snapdragon 888 CPU as Kryo 680, based on Arm Cortex-X1, with a maximum frequency of 2.84 GHz. Samsung gives a fuller Exynos 2100 CPU layout: one Cortex-X1 up to 2.9 GHz, three Cortex-A78 cores, and four Cortex-A55 cores. Both announcements describe a 5nm-generation process; Samsung specifies 5nm EUV.

Samsung also lists support for LPDDR5 memory, UFS 3.1 and UFS 2.1 storage, camera resolutions up to 200MP, video encoding up to 4K UHD at 120fps, and decoding up to 8K at 60fps. These are platform limits, not features guaranteed in every Exynos 2100 phone. Samsung’s Exynos 2100 announcement notes that actual performance can vary with the device and user environment.

What the CPU benchmark results show
A February 2, 2021 Notebookcheck report attributed SPECint results to Golden Reviewer. In the reported Cortex-X1 test, the Exynos 2100 scored 39.61 and the Snapdragon 888 scored 42.78; reported performance per watt was 12.38 and 14.07, respectively. In the mid-core results, Exynos scored 35.71 against Snapdragon’s 31.84, while reported performance per watt was 14.46 for Exynos and 19.65 for Snapdragon.
Those figures point to a workload-dependent trade-off: Snapdragon led the cited X1 score and efficiency figures, while Exynos scored higher in that mid-core test. They are results reported by Notebookcheck from Golden Reviewer, not a universal ranking, a replicated test across phones, or a measure of all everyday tasks. Notebookcheck’s Galaxy S21 Ultra comparison provides the report and context.
GPU results and sustained performance
The two processors use different GPU architectures—Adreno 660 in the Snapdragon and Mali-G78 in the Exynos—so graphics performance is best judged with the same test on the actual devices. In AnandTech’s Galaxy S21 Ultra comparison, peak GPU power was around 8W for both tested variants. In a cited throttled GFXBench T-Rex off-screen test, the Snapdragon phone reached 172.67 FPS at 2.70W. AnandTech described the throttled phones’ performance as nearly the same in that test and said Snapdragon used 28% less power in that state.

Peak benchmark performance and performance after a phone heats up are also different questions. Thermal design, firmware, performance settings, and other device choices affect how long a chip can sustain a workload. Read AnandTech’s Galaxy S21 Ultra testing for its device-specific results.

Qualcomm’s launch benchmark announcement describes tests on a Snapdragon 888 reference design and says results were averaged across three iterations. Qualcomm cautions that scores on commercial devices can differ because of performance settings, storage, display refresh rates, software updates, and other factors. That makes the company’s announcement useful for understanding its test setup, but not a neutral head-to-head against Exynos. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 announcement includes the methodology caveat.
Samsung also warns that Exynos performance may vary by device and environment. A score from one phone should therefore be treated as evidence about that device and test, not as a guaranteed result for every handset using the same processor.
Which one should you choose?
If you are comparing regional variants of the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the cited GPU testing favors Snapdragon for power efficiency in the tested throttled state, while the CPU results show Exynos can be competitive or faster in a particular mid-core workload. The evidence does not support a single winner for all apps, games, or phones.

- For a used or refurbished Galaxy S21 Ultra, verify the model number, region, chipset, condition, and network compatibility in the listing.
- For connectivity, confirm the handset’s supported bands for your carrier and market; platform-level modem support alone is not enough.
