It can reduce hitches caused by shader compilation, but it does not eliminate every kind of stutter. Its stated support is DirectX 12 on NVIDIA and AMD GPUs, and DirectX 11 on NVIDIA; Intel GPUs are not listed as supported.
What SCSKiller does
A shader is a program the GPU uses to render an effect. If a game needs a shader or graphics pipeline that is not ready in the driver’s cache, the driver may compile it during play, making a frame wait and producing a hitch.

SCSKiller scans supported game files and derives shader pipelines it can identify, then compiles them into the driver cache while the game is closed. For games whose files do not expose every pipeline, an optional recorder can collect data during a play session to help fill the gaps. It is a targeted precompilation utility, not a general-purpose stutter diagnostic.

Windows, GPU and graphics API
- Windows 10 version 2004 or Windows 11, 64-bit.
- NVIDIA or AMD graphics: DirectX 12 games are supported on both vendors.
- DirectX 11 games are supported on NVIDIA. Intel GPUs are not listed in the project’s current requirements.
The project lists libraries including Steam, Epic Games, EA app, GOG, Ubisoft Connect, Xbox for PC and Battle.net, with additional launchers mentioned in later release notes. Launcher support does not mean every game in a library is supported: coverage depends on the title and its shader data.

Check game-specific limitations
Some games’ shader information can be derived from their files without recording; others need the optional recorder, while some have encrypted or unsupported files or anti-cheat restrictions. Check the project’s supported-game notes and release notes for the specific title before relying on precompilation. API compatibility alone does not guarantee coverage. The project README and release notes describe current requirements and title-specific exceptions.
What the published results show
SCSKiller’s official site describes comparisons of about five minutes of play per game, first with a cold driver cache and then after SCSKiller compiled shaders. Measurements use the tool’s pipeline recorder; a reported stutter is a shader compile the game waited at least 20 milliseconds for. These are developer-published samples, not independent tests, and the site cautions that results vary by game, GPU and driver. See SCSKiller’s methodology and results.

| Game and tested GPU | Shader stalls of at least 20 ms | Worst stall |
|---|---|---|
| Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, NVIDIA RTX 5090 (SCSKiller, 2026) | 19 before; 0 after | 76 ms before; 5 ms after |
| Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 (Strix Halo; SCSKiller, 2026) | 162 before; 0 after | 291 ms before; 7 ms after |
| Silent Hill: Townfall, NVIDIA RTX 5090 (SCSKiller, 2026) | 24 before; 0 after | 347 ms before; 8 ms after |
| Hogwarts Legacy, NVIDIA RTX 5090 (SCSKiller, 2026) | 1,014 before; 87 after | 2,400 ms before; 100 ms after |
| Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, NVIDIA RTX 5090 (SCSKiller, 2026) | 583 before; 0 after | 315 ms before; 13 ms after |
| Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, NVIDIA RTX 5090 (SCSKiller, 2026) | 9,038 before; 11 after | Not stated in the published example |
The examples show that the number and severity of shader stalls can fall substantially in some tested runs, but not that every game, system or session will see the same change.
What it cannot fix
Not every hitch comes from shader compilation. Traversal and asset-streaming stutter, resource management and video-memory oversubscription are among other possible causes; NVIDIA’s technical training treats shader compilation as one source of hitching, not the only one. NVIDIA’s shader-compilation guidance discusses these causes. If a game still hitches after precompilation, the remaining delay may come from a shader SCSKiller could not discover or record, or from a different bottleneck.

The recorder is separate from precompiling based on game files. Official materials say it places a small d3d12.dll and settings file in a game folder, then records frame-time and related data while the game runs. The project says anti-cheat games are not recorded or injected into, and the tool does not launch those games. Review the title-specific notes before using recording.
Download and installation cautions
The repository identifies its GitHub Releases page as the official download source. At the time described in the project README, releases were unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen might warn and Windows Smart App Control blocked the apps. The README recommended checking the download’s SHA-256 against the value in the release notes. Signing and Windows security behavior can change, so verify the current status and instructions on the official release page before installing. Download from SCSKiller’s official GitHub Releases page.
