In 2026, real estate agents are using AI mainly to draft listing descriptions, social posts, and client emails—not to replace professional judgment. The National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) reports that 23% of surveyed members use AI daily and 25% weekly; among AI users, listing copy is the leading application. Separate survey results suggest many agents see time savings, but accuracy remains a major concern.
How much are real estate agents using AI in 2026?
Adoption figures vary because surveys ask different questions of different groups. NAR’s 2026 REALTORS® Technology Report, based on 1,200 NAR members, found that 23% use AI daily and 25% weekly. Another 12% said they do not use AI and have no plans to.

A separate February 2026 survey by Realtors Property Resource (RPR) included 225 real estate professionals. RPR reported that 82% currently use AI, 92% use it or plan to, and 68% use it daily or several times per week. These figures should not be combined with NAR’s: the samples and questions differ.

Established tools remain central to agent workflows: 96% reported using an MLS, 79% e-signature tools, 68% showing-schedule tools, 59% CMA or pricing tools, and 46% a CRM. AI-generated content tools appeared in the report’s overall technology list at 41%; AI has not displaced the broader stack.

What are agents using AI for?
Among AI users in NAR’s report, drafting and marketing lead. The figures below describe reported uses among that group, not the share of all agents.
| Reported use | Share of AI users |
|---|---|
| Writing listing descriptions | 75% |
| Creating social media posts | 56% |
| Drafting emails or follow-ups | 52% |
| Preparing market summaries | 30% |
| Writing marketing copy in a personal tone | 30% |
| Reviewing or summarizing documents | 27% |
| Creating client education, such as FAQs and guides | 26% |
| Supporting pricing insights or comps | 23% |
| Role-play and objection handling | 13% |
| Lead generation or prioritization | 11% |
NAR says several transaction-oriented tasks—including recommending next steps, summarizing disclosures or contracts, and auto-filling forms—are each used by 10% or fewer of respondents. These are adoption figures, not evidence that such tasks are safe to delegate.
Can AI write a listing description?
Yes. It can produce a first draft from property facts and a clear brief, and listing descriptions are the most common AI use among NAR’s surveyed AI users. The agent still needs to verify every factual claim against the listing record before publishing.

- Provide only verified property details, such as measurements, features, amenities, and location information, along with the intended audience and tone.
- Ask for a draft or alternate versions, not for the system to fill gaps with plausible-sounding details.
- Check each feature, measurement, and claim against authoritative listing information; remove anything unsupported.
- Review the language for fair and inclusive wording, brokerage requirements, and a tone appropriate to the property and audience.
The same approach works for social posts and email: use AI for a first draft, shorter or longer versions, and tone options, then check context, accuracy, and whether the message sounds right for the client.
Where can AI help beyond marketing?
Market summaries and client education
AI can organize information into a market-summary draft, FAQ, or client guide. Supply authoritative source material, then confirm dates, geography, definitions, and any calculations before sharing. NAR’s survey establishes that agents report using AI for these tasks; it does not assess the accuracy of the resulting material.
Documents
A tool may help locate or summarize text, but a generated summary should not replace reading and verifying a contract, disclosure, or other consequential document. Document review or summarization was reported by 27% of NAR’s AI users, while RPR’s survey identified accuracy as a leading concern.

Pricing and comparable properties
Generated pricing insights can be a prompt for further investigation, not a valuation. Verify comparable properties, their status, adjustments, and local context using approved data sources and professional judgment. NAR reports that 23% of AI users use AI for pricing insights or comps support; that figure does not show that AI-generated valuations are accurate.
Lead follow-up
AI-assisted messages can help with follow-up drafts, while a CRM can keep tasks and client history organized. Before sending anything, check the client context, consent, and every factual detail. NAR reports lead generation or prioritization as a less common AI use, at 11% of AI users.
Does AI save agents time, and what does it cost to adopt?
Time is the clearest reported benefit, but the figures are self-reported rather than independently measured productivity gains. In RPR’s February 2026 survey of 225 professionals, 71% named saving time as AI’s top value, 68% reported saving at least one hour per week, and 34% reported saving four or more hours per week.

NAR’s September 2026 report announcement says respondents’ leading reasons for adopting technology were saving time (81%) and improving the client experience (71%); 57% cited closing more deals. These are respondents’ stated motivations, not proof that technology caused those outcomes. NAR deputy chief economist Jessica Lautz put the reported priorities this way: “Real estate agents are making practical choices about technology, and the two payoffs they want most are time and a smoother experience for their clients.”
Adoption has practical constraints. In NAR’s report, 63% cited a learning curve and 59% cited cost as technology-adoption challenges. About half of the 1,200 surveyed members budgeted $50–$500 monthly for technology; 22% spent over $500 and 18% under $50. These are reported technology budgets, not AI-specific subscription prices.
Can agents trust AI with real estate information?
Trust depends on the task and the safeguards. In RPR’s survey, 63% named output accuracy as their top AI concern. NAR reported that 55% of AI users said AI had a positive impact on their business, but that is a perception measure, not a test of accuracy or a guarantee for any particular use.

Fair housing is another reason for care with AI-mediated advertising and screening. HUD’s May 2, 2024 announcement discussed Fair Housing Act concerns involving algorithmic tenant screening and targeted housing ads. HUD’s current Fair Housing Act index lists a notice withdrawing guidance documents, so the 2024 guidance should not be presented as unquestionably current operative policy. Check current official materials and applicable law for the specific issue; this is not legal advice.
How should an agent choose an AI tool?
There is no defensible single “best AI” in the cited evidence. NAR’s report names ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Claude, and Apple Intelligence among products respondents use, but does not provide controlled comparisons of their accuracy, privacy, or value. Assess a tool against the job and workflow it must support:
- Task fit: Does it help with the work you actually do, such as listing drafts, email, social content, summaries, or follow-up?
- Verifiability: Can you readily check its output against MLS, brokerage, public-record, or client-approved sources?
- Privacy: Are the provider’s current data-handling terms clear, and are they compatible with your obligations and brokerage policy?
- Integration and learning: Does it fit the MLS, CRM, or document workflow you already use without adding disproportionate training?
- Cost and value: Compare recurring expense with time saved in your own workflow and tools already provided by your brokerage.
- Client experience: Does it make communication clearer or faster while leaving the agent accountable for advice?
The evidence supports AI as a drafting and support layer, not an autonomous agent. Surveyed use does not establish that AI can independently verify property facts, set an appropriate price, interpret contracts, or provide the relationship and negotiation guidance clients need.

AI writing tools do not capture photos or video. For listings where aerial imagery is suitable and lawful, a drone for real estate photography is an optional media tool rather than a requirement for AI adoption. NAR includes drone photography or video and virtual tours among agent technologies; the cited material does not specify compatible hardware or platforms for 360-degree capture.
