Quordle uses green, yellow, and gray to grade each guess against each board’s own hidden answer. Green means the letter is in the right place; yellow means it is in the answer but in another place; gray means it is absent from that answer, subject to repeated-letter counts. Because one guess is checked against four different words, the same letter can receive different colors on different boards.
What each Quordle color means
- Green: The letter is correct and correctly placed in that board’s answer. Keep it in that position.
- Yellow: The letter appears in that board’s answer, but not in the position where you guessed it. Keep the letter in that board’s possibilities and try another position.
- Gray: The letter does not appear in that board’s answer, subject to how many copies of the letter the answer contains. Treat it as an exclusion for that board.
These are the color meanings described by the reviewed Quordle.me game instructions and Quordle.uk guide.

Why one letter can have different colors on different boards
A shared guess is evaluated separately against each of the four hidden answers. A green tile confirms a letter and position only on the board where it appears. A gray tile rules the letter out only of that board’s answer; it does not eliminate the letter from the other three. The same letter may therefore be green on one board, yellow on another, and gray on a third.
Read each grid independently. The Quordle.uk game instructions describe the shared-guess, four-answer mechanic, while the reviewed Quordle.me instructions describe four simultaneous answers.

How to read a guess board by board
- Choose one board. Record each green as fixed in its position.
- Keep its yellow letters. They belong in that answer, but not in the positions you just tried.
- Apply its gray clues. Exclude those letters from that answer unless repeated-letter feedback shows that another copy is present.
- Repeat for each remaining board. Do not carry a color conclusion from one board to another.
This reading order follows the color rules; it is not a claim that it is an optimal solving strategy.
How repeated letters affect gray tiles
When a guess contains the same letter more than once, the tiles are not independent confirmations. The answer can contain fewer copies than the guess. For example, if the answer has one copy of a letter, one guessed copy may be green or yellow while an extra guessed copy is gray. Count the colored copies separately for each board; the same repeated-letter guess can be graded differently against different answers. The Quordle.uk guide describes this count-based behavior.

What the on-screen keyboard can—and cannot—tell you
Keyboard summaries are not described consistently across the reviewed implementations. The Quordle.uk guide describes separate keyboard sections by board, while another Quordly game page describes an aggregate status. Treat the board tiles as the direct clues for each answer, and check the keyboard behavior in the version you are playing rather than assuming every implementation presents it the same way.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

The reviewed online game pages describe five-letter answers and nine guesses, but those implementation details should not be assumed to define every Quordle service or version. The color logic explained here is the shared mechanic described across the reviewed pages; the pages reviewed do not establish an authoritative current rules page for the original service.
