Spell-check and Galaxy AI Writing assist are separate features, with different controls and availability.
What predictive text and autocorrect do
Samsung uses several related keyboard features, but they do different jobs. Predictive text offers words in the suggestion bar for you to choose. Samsung’s support guidance describes suggestions as based on the characters being entered and context; it does not disclose the prediction model, its training data, or whether ordinary predictions are processed locally or remotely.

How Samsung learns words and personalizes suggestions
Samsung UK says the keyboard saves a word as learned after you finish typing it for the first time and tap the spacebar. When you type that word later, it may appear in the suggestion bar. Samsung also says frequently used words and phrases are prioritized there. This describes the visible behavior, not the technical implementation behind it. Samsung UK support

- Type until the unwanted word appears in the suggestion bar.
- Press and hold the word, then confirm its removal when prompted. Samsung UK support
Clear personalized predictions
To remove all learned words at once, Samsung UK gives this route: Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings > Reset to default settings > Erase personalised predictions > Erase. Samsung US also documents erasing personalized predictions under Reset to default settings and notes that learned words are removed. Exact labels can differ by device and software version. Text shortcuts are different
A text shortcut is a phrase expansion you configure yourself, not a word the keyboard learned from typing. In Samsung Keyboard settings, create a short trigger and its expanded phrase; typing the trigger puts the phrase in the suggestion bar for you to select. You can add or remove these shortcuts in the same settings area. Samsung UK support
How do I turn predictive text on or off on my Samsung phone?
- Open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings.
- Under the available Smart typing options, switch Predictive text or Auto replace on or off, depending on which behavior you want to change. Samsung Canada support
You can also open keyboard settings from the Settings icon in the Samsung Keyboard toolbar. On older devices, the route may instead be Settings > Language and input > On-screen keyboard > Samsung Keyboard > Smart typing. Why does my Samsung keyboard keep changing my words?
If a word changes while you type, check Auto replace first: it can replace or complete a word when you accept the highlighted option using the spacebar or Enter. Predictive text, by contrast, presents selectable suggestions. Spell-check settings may underline a misspelling and offer a correction. Turn off the relevant option in Samsung Keyboard settings rather than assuming every suggestion or correction comes from Predictive text. Samsung Canada support; Samsung UK support

Is Galaxy AI Writing assist the same as predictive text?
No. Writing assist, previously called Chat assist on some devices, is a separate set of Galaxy AI tools accessed through Samsung Keyboard on selected compatible devices and software. Samsung lists chat translation, Composer, writing styles, and spelling and grammar assistance among its tools. These are not the mechanism Samsung describes for ordinary Predictive text or Auto replace. Samsung US support

Important language and software exceptions
Some predictive-text options may not be available on older devices or operating systems, according to Samsung UK. Samsung Japan’s guidance, updated September 17, 2026, says Japanese predictive text on Android 16 and later cannot be toggled off; it contrasts this with Android 15 and earlier. That caveat is specific to Japanese input and those Android versions, not a general rule for every Samsung phone or language. Samsung UK support; Samsung Japan support
