How often should you use an LED face mask?
There is no universal schedule for LED face masks. Follow the instructions for your exact model, including its treatment purpose, session length, frequency and recommended course. The published directions below illustrate why one device’s routine should not be applied to another.

| Philips ReAura LTM7100/00 | Every second day. Age Care and Blemish Care sessions are 10 minutes; Daily Glow is five minutes. | Philips recommends at least eight weeks for Age Care and at least four weeks for Blemish Care; it says results vary by person. Philips guidance |
| TheraFace Mask Glo | Daily, using a pre-programmed 12-minute routine in the study described by Therabody. | Therabody describes a 12-week study of 104 subjects; its page reports that 87% said their skin looked and felt smoother. This is a company-reported perception survey, not an independent general effectiveness rate for LED masks. Therabody product information |
| Sesderma Radiant Light Therapy mask | Three to five times weekly, for five, 10 or 15 minutes. | Sesderma says visible results may appear after 28 days with consistent use for 10–15 minutes three to four times weekly. This is model-specific manufacturer guidance. Sesderma product information |
| Clarins myLEDmask2 | Every other day. | Clarins describes a six-to-eight-week course. Clarins product information |
| American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) overview | Most at-home photobiomodulation devices require consistent use several times weekly. | The AAD says skin benefits may take 8–12 weeks. This is broad professional guidance, not a replacement for a specific mask’s instructions. AAD guidance |
These routines are not interchangeable. A device may offer different modes with different session lengths, and the evidence or timing stated for one model does not establish the same schedule or outcome for another.

Think in weeks rather than days. The AAD’s general overview gives a broad 8–12-week timeframe for consistent use of at-home photobiomodulation devices. Manufacturer guidance can differ: Philips specifies minimum courses of four weeks for Blemish Care and eight weeks for Age Care on the ReAura. Those are model- and mode-specific recommendations, not guaranteed deadlines.

A randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled study evaluated a home-use mask combining 630 nm LED and 850 nm IRED for crow’s-feet appearance. Investigators enrolled 60 adults aged 30–65 and reported significant differences at weeks 8, 12 and 16. The study supports a weeks-long timeline for that device and outcome; it does not establish when other masks will work, or whether they will produce the same result. Study record
Results vary by person and by treatment goal. A claim about smoother-looking skin based on participants’ perceptions, a clinical assessment of crow’s-feet, and a blemish-care mode are different kinds of evidence. No source establishes a guaranteed date for visible results for every user.

How to use a mask safely
- Read the instructions for your exact device and mode, including treatment time and any required eye protection.
- Check the manufacturer’s information on wavelength, irradiance, fluence and intended use rather than relying on the number of LEDs or marketing language alone.
- If you have photosensitivity or a photodermatosis, consult a dermatologist before using a home light-therapy device.
- Stop using the mask and seek medical evaluation if your skin worsens or you develop new hyperpigmentation, pain or unusual photosensitivity. AAD safety guidance
What to check when comparing masks
Compare devices on the details that determine whether their directions and evidence fit your needs:
Recommended Free Tools
- The specific model and skin concern it is intended to address.
- Session length, weekly schedule and recommended treatment course.
- Wavelengths disclosed by the manufacturer.
- Whether supporting evidence is a controlled study or a manufacturer report.
- Who took part, how many people were studied, what outcome was measured and how long follow-up lasted.
- Whether a reported result is an objective assessment or participants’ perceptions.
For example, the 2025 controlled study described above assessed crow’s-feet with one combined LED/IRED mask. Therabody’s 87% figure refers to participants saying their skin looked and felt smoother in the company’s described study. Neither figure should be treated as a universal success rate for all LED face masks.
