Plan for 170 GB of available space to install FINAL FANTASY XVI. That is the published PC requirement on Steam—not a separately measured Steam Deck install size—and the listing says an SSD is required.
What is the storage requirement?
Steam lists 170 GB available space for both the minimum and recommended PC requirements, with the note “SSD required.” Square Enix’s PC requirements page likewise specifies “170 GB or more” and an SSD. See the Steam listing and Square Enix PC requirements.

These are PC requirements, not a published measurement of the game’s installed footprint on Steam Deck. The official pages do not give a Deck-specific install size, download size, or update-space allowance. Treat 170 GB as the planning figure, and check the free space on your own Deck before installing.

Will it fit on your Steam Deck?
Valve currently lists Steam Deck models with 512 GB and 1 TB NVMe SSDs, as well as a high-speed microSD card slot. Those figures describe nominal device storage; the relevant figure for installing the game is the space currently available on your Deck. The Steam Deck technical specifications list the storage options.

| Storage comparison | What is established |
|---|---|
| Game requirement | 170 GB available space on Steam’s PC listing; 170 GB or more on Square Enix’s PC requirements page. |
| Steam Deck internal storage | Valve lists 512 GB and 1 TB NVMe SSD configurations. A model’s advertised capacity is not the same as its remaining free space. |
| Steam Deck microSD expansion | Valve documents a high-speed microSD slot with UHS-I support for SD, SDXC, and SDHC cards. The official sources do not establish FINAL FANTASY XVI’s performance or compatibility when installed to microSD. |
In practical terms, compare the Deck’s available space with the 170 GB requirement rather than assuming the game fits simply because the device is labeled 512 GB or 1 TB.

Valve documents microSD as an expansion option for Steam Deck, but that does not establish that a microSD installation meets FINAL FANTASY XVI’s “SSD required” note. The official game requirements do not clarify whether microSD storage is supported for this game or how it performs there. If you rely on a card, do not treat it as confirmed equivalent to the SSD requirement.
