1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThere is no fixed storage requirement for a 24/7 cartoon channel: it depends on the actual size of the video files you keep and how many hours of unique content you retain. As a planning estimate, YouTube’s recommended upload bitrate for 1080p SDR at standard frame rates works out to about 3.6 GB per hour, while its 4K SDR recommendation works out to about 15.75–20.25 GB per hour. Those are estimates from upload guidance, not measurements of cartoon-channel files.
Estimate storage from the files you keep
Streaming around the clock does not by itself determine how much source video you need to store. If you loop a library, storage depends on the unique files in that library—not on the total hours the channel is live. A channel that keeps a rolling archive, by contrast, needs space for the hours it retains.

For a bitrate-based estimate, use decimal units:
Storage in GB = bitrate in Mbps × 3,600 seconds per hour ÷ 8 ÷ 1,000 × hours retained

YouTube bitrate examples and estimated file sizes
YouTube Help recommends MP4 with H.264 for uploads and publishes bitrate recommendations by resolution, frame-rate category, and SDR or HDR. The figures below are upload guidance, not required archive settings. Your own cartoon exports may have different bitrates and sizes.
| Example export | Video size per hour | 24 hours of unique video | 365 days of unique video |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1080p SDR, standard frame rate (24, 25, or 30 fps), 8 Mbps | About 3.6 GB | About 86.4 GB | About 31.5 TB |
| 4K SDR, standard frame rate (24, 25, or 30 fps), 35 Mbps | About 15.75 GB | About 378 GB | About 138 TB |
| 4K SDR, standard frame rate (24, 25, or 30 fps), 45 Mbps | About 20.25 GB | About 486 GB | About 177.4 TB |
The day column assumes 24 hours of new, unique video each day. The year column assumes 24 hours daily for 365 days, no deletion, and no extra copies. These are arithmetic projections from YouTube’s recommended video bitrates, not values published by YouTube or measurements of a real channel. YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings include additional recommendations for other frame rates and HDR.

How to apply the examples to a real library
- Measure your exports. Check the file size and duration of representative finished videos. If your encoder uses a variable bitrate, the actual file size is more useful than treating the recommended bitrate as a guarantee.
- Calculate the average size per hour. Divide a sample file’s size in GB by its duration in hours, or use the bitrate formula for an initial estimate.
- Multiply by the unique hours you will retain. For a 24-hour playlist made from repeated episodes, count each episode once. For a rolling archive, count the total hours kept before older files are removed.
- Plan for non-video files and copies. Include source projects, alternate renders, audio and container overhead, and the number of backup copies you intend to maintain. There is no universal extra-capacity percentage in YouTube’s guidance; choose an allowance based on your workflow.
Resolution, frame rate, and dynamic range change the estimate
At standard frame rates, YouTube recommends 8 Mbps for 1080p SDR and 35–45 Mbps for 2160p (4K) SDR. At high frame rates (48, 50, or 60 fps), its SDR recommendations are 12 Mbps at 1080p and 53–68 Mbps at 4K. For HDR at standard frame rates, the recommendations are 10 Mbps at 1080p and 44–56 Mbps at 4K. The higher bitrate examples require more storage for the same runtime. These figures are from YouTube Help’s upload guidance, not a prescription for how cartoon footage must be encoded.
Use the resolution, frame-rate category, and dynamic-range setting that match your actual files. Animation can be exported at different bitrates depending on the encoder and content, so do not assume every 1080p or 4K cartoon file matches YouTube’s recommendation.

Choose storage for the retention plan, not just the livestream schedule
- Looping a fixed library: total capacity is based on the unique videos, plus working files and backups. Replaying those videos continuously does not create new source files.
- Keeping a rolling window: estimate the hours in that window and multiply by the average GB per hour of your own exports.
- Keeping every day’s new content: calculate for 24 hours of unique material per day, then multiply by the number of days retained. A full year at 24 hours per day is a large archive even at 1080p.
- Keeping backups: account for every additional copy. Decide whether the archive needs to be online, portable, or stored separately; the right arrangement depends on how quickly you need to restore files and how much risk you want a single copy to carry.
For purchasing capacity, calculate from representative rendered files and leave room for the non-video assets and copies you actually plan to keep. YouTube’s encoding page provides bitrate guidance; it does not test or recommend storage devices.

Storage planning and continuous broadcasting are separate decisions. If your 24/7 cartoon channel uses uploaded videos and playlists, StreamNeo can loop those files from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It supports uploaded video as-is up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and offers a first day free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only; it does not broadcast from a camera. See StreamNeo or start the free day.
