What Streamlabs’ RAM requirements mean
Streamlabs’ Streamlabs Desktop System Requirements page, last updated April 8, 2026, gives two general tiers:

These figures are system requirements, not measurements of Streamlabs’ actual memory use while broadcasting. Streamlabs does not publish a 24/7 RAM requirement, a YouTube-specific endurance test, or an uptime guarantee. RAM capacity by itself cannot show whether a computer will remain live continuously.
Why your workload changes the answer
Streamlabs notes that the settings needed for best performance depend on the content, other running programs, and the computer’s hardware. It specifically calls out resource-intensive games or digital art, animated overlays, and advanced plugins as workloads that may need stronger specifications.

- Simple scenes and few background apps: The 8 GB minimum may be sufficient for some setups, but it is not a 24/7 reliability assurance.
- Animated overlays, advanced plugins, or demanding content: Prefer the recommended 16 GB or more as a starting point and account for the resources used by the content itself.
- Many programs open at once: Extra RAM can provide headroom, but it does not prevent interruptions caused by other hardware, software, network, or platform problems.
Other requirements and limits to check
The same Streamlabs page recommends an Ethernet connection and says 3.6 Mbps or better is sufficient for 720p at 30 fps on most platforms. That is general guidance, not a YouTube-specific guarantee for an uninterrupted 24/7 stream.
The operating-system entries on the page are internally inconsistent: the minimum line lists Windows 11 or macOS 12 and higher, while the recommended line lists Windows 10 or macOS 13 and higher. The page separately advises macOS 13 or later for continued long-term support. Check the current requirements for your system rather than assuming the Windows discrepancy has a single clear interpretation.

Should you upgrade your RAM?
If the computer has less than 16 GB and you intend to keep Streamlabs and other software running for long periods, consider whether an upgrade is supported. Before buying memory, check your specific computer’s supported memory type, form factor, maximum capacity, and available slots. The Streamlabs requirements page does not recommend a particular RAM module, and not every computer can be upgraded.
