For an Android gaming tablet, 6GB of RAM is a sensible baseline for demanding games; choose 8GB or more if you switch between apps or want more headroom. For storage, 128GB can work for a small game library, while 256GB is more comfortable for several large titles. Check the current requirements for the games you play and leave room for updates. iPads need to be judged by game compatibility and supported device generations, not by comparing their RAM figures directly with Android tablets.
RAM and storage do different jobs
RAM is the tablet’s short-term working memory. It helps a game run while leaving room for other active apps, such as a browser or voice chat. Lenovo’s broad gaming guidance describes 6GB or more as a good option for graphically intensive games, but that is a buying guideline rather than a guarantee that every game will run well.

Storage is where the operating system, apps, games, and downloaded content live. RAM generally cannot be upgraded after purchase, so it is worth choosing enough at the outset. The capacity printed on a tablet’s box is not all available for games: Xiaomi notes that the operating system and preinstalled software reduce usable storage and RAM.

- Casual games, one at a time: Lighter games may run with less, but requirements vary. For a tablet expected to handle demanding Android games, 6GB is a practical minimum target.
- Demanding games or frequent app switching: Prefer 8GB or more for additional multitasking headroom. Treat 6GB as a general floor, not a promise of smooth performance in every title.
- iPad gaming: Check whether the iPad generation supports the games you want. Android and iPadOS manage memory differently, so a RAM number on one platform does not translate directly into an equivalent on the other.
As one concrete example, HoYoverse’s Android recommendations for Genshin Impact specify 6GB or more of RAM. That is guidance for that game, not a universal minimum for tablet gaming. The page was updated November 11, 2025: HoYoverse’s system requirements.

Choose storage by library size, not just the first install
- 128GB: Can suit a small collection, especially if you remove games you no longer play. Keep free space for the operating system, other apps, saved content, and game updates.
- 256GB: A safer choice if you keep several large games installed. Samsung Canada recommends at least 256GB or expandable storage for avid gamers: Samsung’s tablet storage guide.
- More capacity or removable storage: Consider it if you maintain a large library or download substantial offline content. Confirm that the exact tablet model supports expansion and that your intended games and files can use removable storage as you expect.
For scale, HoYoverse currently recommends 60GB of available storage for Genshin Impact on Android. Its requirements page warns, “Important: Storage requirements may increase with future game updates.” The 60GB figure applies to that game and platform; check the page for current requirements before installing: HoYoverse’s system requirements.
Use expansion carefully
A microSD slot can add storage for compatible uses, but it does not increase RAM. Support also varies by tablet model. Samsung lists microSD support up to 2TB on several Galaxy Tab models; that limit should not be assumed for every tablet, and it does not establish that every game can be installed or run from a card. Check the specifications for the exact model and the game’s storage behavior before relying on expansion.

Check the exact model before buying
Storage and memory options can vary even within one tablet family. Xiaomi Australia lists the Pad 7 in 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB, and 12GB/256GB configurations; these are configuration examples, not performance benchmarks. Before choosing a capacity, check the current free-space requirements for your main games, whether you want to keep them installed together, how long you expect to keep the tablet, and whether it supports removable storage for the uses you need.
