How Much Power Does an Epson Projector Use in Standby Mode?

Selected Epson projectors use about 0.2–0.5 W in reduced standby and about 1.9–3.0 W with network or communication features enabled; check your exact model and setting.

There is no single standby-power figure for every Epson projector. Across the named models in Epson’s specifications, reduced-communication or energy-saving standby is about 0.2–0.5 watts, while communication-enabled or network standby is about 1.9–3.0 watts. The precise rating depends on the model, standby setting and, for some models, voltage region.

Why the standby setting matters

A projector that appears to be off may still use power for network or communication features, or to start more quickly. Epson manuals use different labels for these states, including “Communication Off,” “Energy Saving,” “Communication On” and “Network Standby.” Compare the mode as well as the wattage: a communication-enabled figure is not directly comparable to a reduced-communication figure.

Epson’s LS800 guide illustrates the trade-off for that model: Suspend allows quicker startup from standby, while Shutdown minimizes standby power use but takes longer to start. Its published figures are 2.0 W for Suspend and 0.4 W for Shutdown. These labels, behavior and values should not be assumed to apply to every Epson projector.

Published standby figures for selected Epson models

The following are manufacturer specifications for named models, not independent measurements or a brand-wide average. Voltage ranges are included where Epson lists different regional values.

For the PowerLite 675W, Epson lists the regional figures above; the cited specification summary does not establish separate figures for the 680 or 685W. Check the individual model’s specification before applying a number to either of those models. Figures and modes in the table come from Epson’s electrical specifications, with the EF21/EF22 values also listed in Epson’s EF21/EF22 specifications.

How to find the rating for your projector

  1. Find the exact model name on the projector’s label or in its on-screen menu. Similar model names can have different ratings.
  2. Open the matching model’s Epson support page or user guide and look for “Projector Electrical Specifications.”
  3. Match the standby mode and communication setting to the state you use, then check whether Epson provides separate figures for your voltage region.

If you want to check the draw in your own setup, an optional plug-in electricity usage monitor can show what the projector is using at the time of measurement. Treat that as a reading of your particular setup and state, not a replacement for the model’s published specification.

Estimate energy use and cost

To estimate energy from a published wattage, multiply watts by the hours spent in that state and divide by 1,000 to get kilowatt-hours (kWh). For example, at a constant 0.5 W, 24 hours uses 0.012 kWh; at 2.0 W, 24 hours uses 0.048 kWh. Over 30 days, those assumptions produce 0.36 kWh and 1.44 kWh respectively. These are arithmetic estimates assuming the projector remains in that state continuously, not measured household results. Multiply the resulting kWh by your electricity rate to estimate cost.

For the LS800 specifically, Epson’s User’s Guide describes Suspend as the quicker-start option and Shutdown as the lower-standby-power option. The guide also advises turning off the product when it is not in use to prolong projector life.
